Would you let a 3 month old nap upstairs with baby monitor?

Hi

No haters thanks.

So no nursery now for my 3 year old, like most people. But DC2 will only really nap when it is reasonably quiet, and when DC1 is around screaming and just being a toddler, she really struggles to nap and gets fraught and upset.

I’m contemplating putting her upstairs when she needs a nap nap with the baby monitor on, checking her every 15 mins or so. What do you think? I want to do it for my own sanity, and also so that DC2 can get a proper nap in bless her.

Thanks x

I wouldn't, personally. But if I were going to, I'd get one of those pads or oxygen monitors that triggers an alarm if they stop breathing.

I wouldn't personally.
I know people who have but I'd not settle and it's against guidance

I would.
Can't see what harm it would do, I thought cot-death was only a risk when baby left for long periods?

DentalPatient · 23/03/2020 13:31

I did this, mine were healthy full term babies. Are you not because of the SIDS risk?

MrsTumbletap · 23/03/2020 13:31

We had one of those pads underneath the mattress that would sense if they stopped breathing even for a second.

Put my mind at rest and we moved DS to his own room at one month. DS loved a quiet room with blackout curtains and had been en excellent sleeper for 7 years.

AGoodDay · 23/03/2020 13:32

I would.
But if you're not comfortable with it could you take them both in the garden (if you have one) and she can nap in pram, toddler screams seem quieter outside.

MrsTumbletap · 23/03/2020 13:33

Has been, as in still 'is', that was meant to say.

YouJustDoYou · 23/03/2020 13:33

Oh Jesus you're fine

Sheepareawesome · 23/03/2020 13:34

Of course I would and did! 3 months, assuming no higher risk due to health issues, when you are checking every 15 minutes is fine
I am pretty sure that is all they do at nursery anyway isn't it? They don't have a person sitting staring at the sleeping babies do they!?

Napqueen1234 · 23/03/2020 13:34

That’s exactly what I do with my 10 week old. A screaming overtired baby that then wakes 10 x a night impacts hugely on a family. The SIDS risk is tiny.

Gettingonabitnow · 23/03/2020 13:35

Yeah the SIDS risk

I have and would.

Thanks everyone!

I did but my dd has an owlet baby monitor.

RainbowsandSnowdrops · 23/03/2020 13:37

I absolutely would do this.

LefttoherownDevizes · 23/03/2020 13:38

Absolutely, unless there are other SIDs risk factors. Once babies get into a cycle of overtiredness it is very hard to break

LolaSmiles · 23/03/2020 13:38

They do at the nursery we'll be using and at the nurseries my friends work at.

Either the sleep space is in one area of the open plan baby area, or if they have a separate sleep room then one member of staff is in there, usually doing their observations paperwork whilst minding them.

Megan2018 · 23/03/2020 13:38

No way. Safe sleeping guidance is there for good reason.

ShellsAndSunrises · 23/03/2020 13:39

They did when I worked in a baby room. We all loved being in the nap room, some peace and quiet sat with all the sleeping babies! We didn’t stare at them though. Just sat in the room.

YouForgetYourself · 23/03/2020 13:40

I would and did!

IPityThePontipines · 23/03/2020 13:43

I would and did. As a previous poster stated, both of mine were full-term babies.

AllyBamma · 23/03/2020 13:52

I would and did. Many times

Napqueen1234 · 23/03/2020 13:55

Just as an aside for those who don’t do things like that parenting babies must be so much more intense and exhausting! Would you not shower when the baby is asleep either? I have no judgement and can completely see that’s the guidelines but based on no other risk factors I was happy to take that relatively small ‘risk’. And as a second baby I think you’re more relaxed but I think I would still have left my first safely sleeping upstairs if needed.
