Babies/toddlers not wearing coats when it’s freezing??

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed any increase in babies/toddlers not wearing coats when it’s freezing out! What triggered this thread is a story Stacey Solomon put up ouT walking Rex today in a pushchair with no coat. I actually see it a lot! I was wearing a jumper, coat and scarf yesterday and still freezing yet I see mums holding babies in just a hoody? I think it’s because people are becoming more aware about not putting coats on in car seats but surely you should put one on when you take them out 🤨 really pisses me off

I mean, my toddler would happily be outside in a tee shirt, but then he would also be happy playing in the road, eating dog shit and a whole host of other stuff that as parents we prevent them from doing, for their own good.

Yes, because those two things are totally comparable in terms of relative risk. 🙄

Also, I think kids aren't as stupid as some would have us believe. They know when they're cold and will complain about it if they are, as will pretty much any animal with a functional nervous system. For the record, my kid wears a thick winter coat most days because she runs fairly cold, as do I, but that's not the same of all kids.

My son refuses to keep his shoes and socks on when he's in the trolley and we're shopping/in the car/anywhere he has access to his feet. I run in with him to Morrisons with his socks on and hope for the best! I don't bother with his shoes as he'd spend the entire time either taking them off or eating the dirt off the bottom. He is always wearing them when we go for walks though! Wink

Oh the irony!

Oh, the irony!

Hardly. That was posted in a particularly cold November, which followed a really cold and snowy January earlier that year. We are currently in the grip of an extremely mild January. Plus, as all the OP's messages have been deleted, it's impossible to see what she actually asked to guage whether or not she was being unreasonable. Also, it appears to have been exclusively about tiny babies.

Helpme1010 · 30/01/2020 07:42

Omg at what point does it say, does my baby need a coat this specific November. Nor does it say exclusively tiny babies 😂 crazy!

OP posts:
Elbeagle · 30/01/2020 07:46

No, we have no idea what it says as the OP’s posts have been deleted. It could have been ‘does my 3 day old need a coat in the antarctic’, and equally could have been ‘does my 12 month old need a coat in a mild winter when he’s already wearing 4 layers’. Who knows?

Elbeagle · 30/01/2020 07:47

Seems so bizarre to hunt through to find a thread to support your point when the key parts of that thread have been deleted Confused. Surely there was a better thread to use?

SoupDragon · 30/01/2020 07:49

while your all at it put some socks on your babies bare feet! Another bug bare

I don't know where to start with this one...

BikeRunSki · 30/01/2020 07:55

DD is 8. She has largely refused to wear coats, trousers or tights, and was about 3 before she would accept shoes or wellies (limited success with Crocs prior to then).
I used to hang her shoes in the buggy marked to show that at least she had some!

She is fit, string and healthy otherwise. She plays football 3 times a week, and doesn’t usually wear a baselayers/skins under her kit, even at this time of year. She just doesn’t feel as cold as most..

peachgreen · 30/01/2020 08:05

What exactly are you wanting people to say, OP? That you're a better mum than everyone else because your child is always in a coat? I mean, that's patently bollocks but if that's what you need to hear to feel better about this, that's fine.

PixieDustt · 30/01/2020 08:07

This pisses me off too especially when you see the parent in a coat Hmm.
The worse is when it's freezing and the baby has no blanket and just socks... or no socks. I saw one girl before Christmas about 3 she has bare bloody feet in the pushchair and no blanket!

ReturnofSaturn · 30/01/2020 08:12

I actually often find the opposite. I see a lot of babies and toddlers trussed up like they're in the artic and think blooming heck they must be boiling!

Willow4987 · 30/01/2020 08:13

Thought you weren’t replying OP?

Yes like babies in pram suits under a blanket inside the shops in a pram. That’s actually dangerous but obviously the parents of obstinate 3 year olds wearing layers and a hoodie instead of a coat are the irresponsible ones.

SoupDragon · 30/01/2020 08:21

I can only imagine you have a compliant child then. Even DS1 (who was the most compliant!) used to pull his socks off and thrown off a blanket. They were usually in the hood of the pushchair if you could be arsed to stop judging and look.

PineappleDanish · 30/01/2020 08:30

Well for a start it's not "freezing". 10c isn't "freezing". Cool yes.

I think some parents do over wrap their children, yes a jacket or whatever but all the jumpers, heavy snowsuit and then a blanket over the top and the baby/toddler is roasting.

PixieDustt · 30/01/2020 08:33

@SoupDragon it's called an opinion just like you stated yours...
Put shoes on his feet then? Hmm

PixieDustt · 30/01/2020 08:33

Also my child does pull his socks shoes off and I keep putting them back on is that a problem? Idiot.

PixieDustt · 30/01/2020 08:35

Oh and no there was nothing in the pushchair at all the pushchair had no hood and the basket was empty...

TeddyIsaHe · 30/01/2020 08:36

It’s 10 degrees here this morning, pretty mild I’d say!

Dd will wear a hat or gloves when hell freezes over. I’m not spending every single morning fighting with her to put them on before nursery.

Why don’t you judge people that actually deserve it?

Dandelion1993 · 30/01/2020 08:41

I put a card on my baby when we get to school as children shouldn't wear coats in the car and by the time I've put the coat on I could've got the eldest and be back in the car.

Bloody waste of time and she'll be fine for the quick walk across the road and back.

You're being a judgemental dick OP.

ClientQueen · 30/01/2020 09:04

We are all different. It's 7c here and I'm in a t shirt and covered in a heat rash. No chance of me wearing a coat and I didn't wear one as a child

SoupDragon · 30/01/2020 09:05

Put shoes on his feet then?

🤣🤣🤣 oh dear god... yeah, that'll work. Why on EARTH didn't I think of that?!

SoupDragon · 30/01/2020 09:06

it's called an opinion just like you stated yours...

As an aside, no it's called judging on your part.

SoupDragon · 30/01/2020 09:07

DS1 is nearly 21 now. He's stopped pulling his socks (and shoes) off.
