Used cocaine on a night out

Namechabe11111 · 18/01/2020 23:37

Name change for obvious reasons. So I went out last night for the first time since having my baby and I got a bit wild and ended up having a tony bit of cocaine. Stupid and selfish I know and majorly regretted it as soon as I did it and did not have any more. This was at about 9 o’clock last night and It was the tip of a keys worth

My baby is majority bottle fed but the baby also likes to be breast fed sometimes but it’s rare.

My question is how long do I abstain from breast until it’s out of my system? I’m thinking it probably has already flushed out of my system as it was a tiny bit but I need to know for certain.

I’m not a regular cocaine user I have done in the past a years And years ago but haven’t for a long time hence the reason I had a tiny amount as I didn’t know how I would react from it.
I have also been expressing milk (not loads) today and disposing of. Probably a couple of ounce

I don't know the answer but I know it's been asked via the Drugs in Breastfeeding helpline before so they might be a good source of help.

lilmishap · 18/01/2020 23:51

Braver than me I would have googled rather than taking all the lectures you're guaranteed to get on here.

Pump and dump for 24 hours to be safe as houses, mainly in case it had a cut of something that isn't as quick to leave the system, I'm thinking of ephedrine but there are others.

12 if you're confident it was teeny tiny, no one can tell you really as we all have different ideas of what a key bump is and different size keys.

The issue is the bulk of any amount of coke will leave your system quickly(within hours) but the last little bit takes longer and just circulates in your blood so it will keep dropping bits off.

BertieBotts · 18/01/2020 23:58

From that website - sorry OP. I'd be gutted.

Does it matter if I use recreational drugs whilst I am breastfeeding?
You should not use any recreational drugs when you are breastfeeding. Cocaine is particularly toxic and it is imperative that you don’t breastfeed for 72 hours.

TheBlueStocking · 19/01/2020 00:01

It sounds like a negligible amount. It doesn't have a very long period of efficacy.

I wouldn't beat yourself up about it too much.

Namechabe11111 · 19/01/2020 00:05

@lilmishap

I did some googling but the only thing I could find was people had taken way larger quantity of it than what I had and it said pump and dump for between 1-10 days

puds11 · 19/01/2020 00:06

@TheBlueStocking don’t beat yourself up about snorting cocaine when you have a baby who you breast feed? Fuck me, your standards are low!

@Namechabe11111 I find it really hard to believe that you don’t normally take cocaine. Who the fuck suddenly decides to do coke when they have a baby they breast feed? How hard is it to not do coke? As far as I know, most people manage pretty well Hmm

Namechabe11111 · 19/01/2020 00:09

Wel like I said my baby is majority bottle fed and I am transitioning him over hence why I still have a supply but it is drying out and he usually suckles for comfort not milk but milk will still come out i would imagine. And no I don’t take it regularly or I would just say if I was a regular user. It’s not like you know me in real life is it so I wouldn’t have anything to lose by being honest if it were the case, which it is not.

I had to pump and dump for 48 hours after sedation so I would apply a 48 hour rule to coke.

lilmishap · 19/01/2020 01:58

If you use amphetamines, ecstasy, cocaine or heroin, you should not breastfeed for 24 hours after use.
healthywa.wa.gov.au/Articles/A_E/Alcohol-and-drug-use-while-breastfeeding

I know about the metabolism of different drugs through the body from addiction & toxicology courses I did years ago when I was getting clean from a lot of drug issues.
But the info is out there if you use the right terms for it.

LauraPalmersBodybag · 19/01/2020 02:25

Jfc, a grown woman went out without her baby and did something that was counterintuitive to breastfeeding. She’s now ensuring she’s safe to breastfeed again at the right time. Let’s get the hair shirt out as op is obviously a monster of the highest form!

@Namechabe11111 I don’t know the answer but Breastfeeding Network att very knowledgeable. I wouldn’t beat yourself up over this - it’s not like you took coke then fed your baby. Be cautious and make sure you’re safe to feed before you do again, and make sure it’s advice from a professional and not anecdotal.

BUT...you’re A) allowed to go out and have fun, B) allowed to make mistakes, and C) you remain an autonomous person despite being a breastfeeding mother.

Juanmorebeer · 19/01/2020 02:59

Never pump and dump. It is pointless. You don't need to get anything 'out' just let your body metabolise the substances within your blood. Only pump if you feel discomfort.

Drink plenty of water and let your organs do their job. It is done now.

FordPrefect42 · 19/01/2020 03:01

It still shows up on a drugs test for three days, right?

It’s a fucking Class A amphetamine, anyone pointing the finger for the OP being a completely irresponsible twat, BF or no BF is totally right.

FordPrefect42 · 19/01/2020 03:07

I agree. Plus, you can never be certain as to what it’s been cut with, even if you do test your drugs as testing kits don’t always show everything.

OrangeLindt · 19/01/2020 03:30

Let's hope SS never find out about it OP

OrangeLindt · 19/01/2020 03:31

@LauraPalmersBodybag and taking drugs is illegal, or you a user too?

PatricksRum · 19/01/2020 04:30

Never.
I say this as you must know how addictive a class A drug can be.
How do you know you won't do it again?
I wouldn't trust myself.

Namechabe11111 · 19/01/2020 04:46

I totally disagree with being called an irresponsible twat. My baby is well cared for and it’s not like I was doing it in front of him/in the same house/off one of his story books. He was having a sleepover with a trusted family member who loves him very much.
Yeah I had a little bit and I shouldn’t of and like I said in my op I instantaneously regretted it as I knew it would cause me problems if he wanted breast.
I made a mistake and I’m not beating myself up for it so I’m not going to take the verbal bashing to heart on here.

"Let's hope SS never find out about it OP"

Haha, hilarious. Social services deal with families who take drugs regularly in front of their kids, beat them up, yell at them, and have houses covered in filth.

A mum who took one sniff of coke isn't going to cut it, I'm afraid.

PatricksRum · 19/01/2020 05:05

OP do you live with your child's father?

LauraPalmersBodybag · 19/01/2020 05:29

@OrangeLindt no I’m not. Fwiw, I’m breastfeeding too and barely drink atm. I’m aware it’s a class A drug but I’m also aware that plenty of people take it. Op isn’t talking about a coke habit, she said she went out, took a tiny bit then regretted it.

I don’t believe anyone is served by us shaming her. Motherhood comes with enough guilt, shame and stripping of amour autonomy, I don’t want to participate in adding to that. If op is sober when she sees her child and waits till she’s safe to feed, then I’d chalk this up to experience and move on.

And YY to the person who said that SS havefar greater things to worry about that this.

moomoomummy · 19/01/2020 05:54

Dont beat yourself up about it.
Pump and dump for 24 hours and it will be fine. I am in anaesthetics so I know what I am talking about. 24 hours is a generous time. I tell my patients after sedation 24 hours but it could really be 12.
Life happens. Eat well today and rehydrate .

puds11 · 19/01/2020 06:12

There’s also the hideous abuse within the drug trade supported by people buying illegal substances, but yeah, don’t beat yourself up. Not you that’s going to be affected right so who gives a shit Hmm

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 19/01/2020 06:44

But you’re on here all wide eyed and bewildered asking about what to do with breast milk which may or may not have trace cocaine in it?

Okaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.
