I think more copies of that book have sold in NZ than the bible so that makes sense.
Lowryn my dd doesn't particularly like the petit filous the ones made with follow on milk - she only likes the banana ones so it isn't really worth the money. Will wait a bit longer then she can just have some of our yoghurt.

Tried weetabix again this morning - wasn't very well received as I ended up wearing 50% of it. Have just been to boots and got some boots organic breakfast cereal stuff that hasn't got any sugar so will try that tomorrow.

Have a good weekend everybody.

Mrs D sorry to make u sad !!
wening mmm , ds 1st day @ nursary y-day and the cheesy pasta did not go down well , all he will eat is P-felious and heinz friut puree , hoping that if nursary keep trying him with veg based stuff then he will take to it - too chicken to do it myself , may try weetabix though never thought of that doh !

I have some pumpkin recipes in an american cookbook. will try and post the pie recipe as it was yummy.

my dd1 used to love homemade leek and potato soup as a baby (though she went off it as a toddler), it was basically leek, potato, onion all pureed up. Then I added the stock and spices for us but not for her.

HD - will check out the lightbox thread.

oo yes, pie please!

Fennel · 02/10/2004 14:24

Am having smug earthmother moment - DP and I have 5 under 5s today (our 3 plus 2 visitors) and I still get time to post pumpkin pie recipes! (am making dp do most of the work as he's about to go windsurfing again)

from the "more with less" cookbook which is a big fan of pumpkin (pie, custard, ice cream, soup....):

1 cup cooked sieved pumpkin
1/2 cup sugar
1 teasp cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon of each of ginger, nutmeg, cloves
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup milk
2 egg yolks (beat until stiff)
2 egg whites

Combine all the above except the egg whites in blender. fold egg whites in. pour into unbaked pie shell. bake 10 mins at 425 degrees. then 30 mins at 375 degrees.

it's not hard as long as you know how much a cup is and what 425 degrees is. (I don't know either offhand). and as long as you know how to make or buy pastry too.

Tickle · 02/10/2004 14:40

looks good fennel - i've just looked it up and assuming the measures are american:

one cup = 8 fl oz = 250ml
425F = 220C = hot
375F = 190C = mod hot

will try it tomorrow

Have any of you got your Bounty weaning box yet? I got mine today and wondered whether the contents differed depending whether you got it from Boots or Mothercare.
I got:
Washing up liquid
carton of follow on milk
three sachets of follow on milk
Three jars of baby food
sachet of dry baby food
Petit filous spoon
two fennel tea bags

And all the bumpf

Congrats on the job mr yorkiegirl!

Glad to see fennel features in the bounty pack

I didn't bother collecting my bounty bag things this time as it's mostly things I don't use - baby lotion (what for, exactly?), fabric softeners (can't be bothered), one tiny disposable nappy (don't use), etc. What I would put in my bounty bag would be:

1 small bottle red wine
1 small packet Thornton's chocolates
small tubs of sudocrem (I agree they are useful!)
Kamillosan (for sore nipples)

I think that's all the things I really need after having a baby.

handlemecarefully · 02/10/2004 22:14

dolbear - your ds is identical to mine re weaning, i.e. will only eat petit filous and fruit puree!!

Chuffed · 03/10/2004 08:43

I got the same in my bounty box except I didn't get the washing up liquid in my bounty box, got it in my emma's diary bag along with one tin of food I think - almost nothing I was peeved as I have no big Sainsbury's near me and walked from Paddington to Earls Court which took me about 45mins. Must say the sample washing up liquid has come in really handy for holidays along with a cheap toothbrush for doing dd's dishes.

Yorkiegirl, I think I got my sudocream container in an earlier bounty pack, whatbout transferring some sudocream to an old sample moisturiser container, I'll keep an eye out at the babyshow in a couple of weeks.

Lowryn - you never said how the camomile tea went on ds's bottom.

Feeling a bit rubbish today actually. Dd was awake last night every hour I'd say. I don't really know what's wrong with her, I think it must be teething. Sometimes she just smiled at me when I turned the light on in her room. another time she woke me up, I stumbled into her room and brought her into bed with us but she was soo wide awake she just kept thrashing around and babbling away, prompting me to put her back where she came from. Sometimes she would cry a bit and go back to sleep, other times I would have to pick her up. All I really know is I am shattered today, and she is sleeping or laughing but not eating !?????

LucyJones · 03/10/2004 19:17

Hi everyone. Ds has 2 lovely teeth at the bottom and seems much happier now so strange nappies was definitely that! He's also got his appetite back and has decided he does like petit filou after all. I'm going to try him with Weetabix this week but I've got a feeling he's not going to be too impressed unless it's got apple or banana in it. Does nayone know when we're meant to start teeth cleaning? I assume now that he's got 2 through they're vunerable to decay but can't think for the life of me how to clean them as he'll just suck the toothbrush or shouldn't I bother?!

Chuffed · 03/10/2004 19:52

dd has one tooth through on the bottom and I have read that it is worth cleaning as soon as. I have some milk teeth toothpaste and keep forgetting but have been meaning to just give them a bit of a wipe with some toothpaste on my finger.

hewlettsdaughter · 03/10/2004 20:26

I think it is supposed to be a good idea to clean teeth as soon as they are through although I have to say I don't think I did that with ds.
I haven't had any bounty packs or anything this time - haven't even been offered any actually (because I had a homebirth?). Not that bothered though (might be if yours was offered Fennel!)
Am in Nottingham this weekend - weather is wild and windy. How is it at home Mrs D?

hewlettsdaughter · 03/10/2004 20:37

MrsD (and Lowryn - saw your thread), sympathies re the waking. DD is going through a restless patch at the mo, whether it is teething or not I'm not sure.

Tickle · 03/10/2004 22:36

With teeth cleaning I think it's important just to get them used to it.

But I wasn't very switched on with dd1 and let her get into the habit of going off to sleep with a bottle (after I stopped bfing at about 8 mths). She didn't have any teeth then, so I wasn't bothered, but it was an impossible bedtime habit to break, so it continued when she had teeth and I now realise it was a bad idea - her back teeth have some decay

I guess water only after tooth brushing at night is best... but how do you get them off to sleep with water??

No teeth yet with dd2 - almost sitting up unaided but still showing no desire to roll over! Oh, and pea puree is a winner here too - but banana the definite fave

Like Tickle my 4yo has 2 fillings, I think due to too much (diluted) fruit juice and too much dried fruit, perhaps also to going to sleep with bottle of milk when younger . teeth brushing seems to make less difference than what they eat and drink. but agree it's good to start practising young.
dd3 has no teeth. and will never have pea puree, too much like mushy peas for my taste! she has bright orange (carrot) nappies.

mrs d and lowryn - hope you had a better night.

have made my first ebay purchase - suspect I will be spending even more time online in future

dolbear · 04/10/2004 11:17

err pants on the bad nights - jekle and hyde continuing here , but no teeth so maybe he is just odd !!
DH is @ home 2-day with a man cold ! which obviously mena sthat the world is coming to an end ! so now I have 2 babies to care for !
the party never ends in my hse (grin)

LucyJones · 04/10/2004 11:21

Hmmm tricky this teeth cleaning business. So at night after bottle and winding I should attempt to clean his wee teeth? aarrgghh!!

Chuffed · 04/10/2004 11:34

I'm going to attempt to do it after bath so she will have had her dinner and one lot of milk, only one lot of milk to go then. It might not be perfect but every little bit counts right????

Not a great night's sleep here either, maybe it is a 6 month thing.

First day at work today.

hewlettsdaughter · 04/10/2004 17:02

How did it go Chuffed?

hewlettsdaughter · 04/10/2004 17:03

Work, that is (and teeth cleaning!)
