Anyone used 10.2.6 feeding schedule?

Hello, my baby is 10 weeks old on Saturday & I wanted to get him into a little routine. My MIL suggested feeding at 10, 2 and 6 continuously & eventually he would drop the 2am feed. He normally has 5oz every 3-4 hours at the moment but Ive changes to size 2 teats with bigger bottles & hoping he will take 6oz every 4 hours. Has anyone tried this with success ? TIA

10 weeks is far far too young to implement a feeding routine. Feed on demand.

Figgygal · 24/09/2019 21:23

Just feed on demand they can't tell the time

My 9 week old takes 6 ounces though not generally at night. I have had 3 kids and fed all around 10 pm then 2am and 6am. All 3 dropped the 2 am feed after slowly reducing the amount of milk taken. However if they woke hungry in between obviously I fed them as babies go through massive growth spurts. My baby is now dropping the 2 am feed or if he does wake maybe takes 40mls.

NerrSnerr · 24/09/2019 21:24

When your baby needs feeding will continually change, growth spurts etc may mean they'll want more. He'll sleep through when he's ready.

rosyedith · 24/09/2019 21:31

@daisydoooo actually they can have size 2 tests from 2 months old and was recommended by HV as he falls asleep during feeds which is a tell tale sign he needs a bigger teat. A lot of people use this schedule to help get their babies in a routine. Shows what you know.

Honestly you're wasting your time and setting yourself up to fail by expecting a baby to fit into any rigid routine. It's just going to be frustrating when they don't stick to it and make everything feel like hard work. Just feed when he's hungry and let him sleep when he's tired. He'll find his own routine before long. They change so much in the first year or so you'll be constantly adjusting it anyway

I started following 11.3.7 schedule when DD was around 8 weeks. We very quickly dropped the 3am feed. All I did is tried to resettle DD without feeding between midnight and 5am and gradually stretched the interval. By 10 weeks, DD was "sleeping through" (7pm to 7am with the dream feed at 11pm) every other night. By 12 weeks she "slept through" consistently. DD has always been a big baby and has consistently followed the 95th percentile curve so I knew she was having enough milk during the day. We dropped the dream feed when DD was 8 months.

Rarfy · 24/09/2019 21:54

I always fed dd every four hours. She never cried for it before then, just the routine she followed. I do think 10 wks might be a bit early to be thinking about dropping a feed. You're only getting up once a night really on that schedule which I don't think is bad at all at 10 wks altho we all remember how bloody nackering it is and longing for them to sleep through.

blahblahblahblahhh · 24/09/2019 21:59

People are saying you're wrong, but my kids were fine on this routine.
Both slept through at 11 weeks and 8 weeks.
Both were fine with a feed routine.
Second child is now 4.5 months old and has 9oz at 7am, 12:30pm and 6pm then sleeps from 6pm to 7am.

blahblahblahblahhh · 24/09/2019 22:01

Also both mine needed faster teats.
I had to move onto size 3 at 4 months rather than 6 months.

isadoradancing123 · 24/09/2019 22:05

I did this too, wasnt strictly rigid with it but tried to follow it and it certainly worked

locketsprocket · 24/09/2019 22:09

Yep I swear by it or at least a version of it, I did 10,2,6 with my 1st and 3rd children and with my 2nd and 4th they fed at 7,10,1,4,7, 10 as they slept more so ate more during day and only in very first few weeks did they wake for 1 fed between the last night feed and morning

All mine sleeping through from 6 weeks old

My 3 older sisters stick to 10,2,6 to with there Children as did my mum

Routine isn't for everyone some like to feed on demand weather that's through the night or not and that's fine but routine worked better for me and my children

dementedpixie · 24/09/2019 22:10

Falling asleep can also mean the teat is too slow. Different brand teats have different age ratings too

CalpolOnToast · 24/09/2019 22:10

I fed 8-12-4 after the early weeks but he fell into that himself and it got so I could rely on it for going out or whatever.

0hT00dles · 24/09/2019 22:16

My dd fed every 1.5-2hours- until about 3/4 months. She needed it. At 10 weeks they're still teeny babies, and routine can't exist in my opinion.

It's still way too young in my opinion. Things have moved on since the days of 'only feed at these times'. Give it another few months and things will settle once weaning starts.

rosyedith · 24/09/2019 22:25

@daisydoooo you seem to think you know an awful lot, you even know better than trained professionals. My OP simply asked if anyone had tried it. Clearly you haven't so therefore off you trott....

4 hours is a long time between feeds at that age particularly during the day. Do they ask for milk more often than 4 hourly at night? Mine didn't drop the middle of the night feed until 8 months I think.

whiskeysourpuss · 24/09/2019 22:31

All 3 of mine followed the 3.7.11 routine pretty much from birth & all 3 dropped the 3am feed at 8 weeks.

But I'm an awful mum by Mumsnet standards (daisy would probably be on the phone to SS) so I wouldn't listen to me OP Grin

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 24/09/2019 22:38

I did 11-3-7 with my first born and he was sleeping through at 9 weeks. Breastfed the second one on demand and I didn’t sleep for two years Grin I know what i’ll Be doing if I have another.

Fruityb · 24/09/2019 22:41

My son was a 7-11-3 feeder from birth pretty much. He dropped the 3am feed at about 4 weeks old. He was on 5-6 oz.

rosyedith · 25/09/2019 11:38

@whiskeysourpuss oh I know we are awful. 🙄 some people are so bloody opinionated.

Just to update all the people who commented with their experiences & didn't jump on to criticise... my LO got fed last night at 6pm, 10pm, then 6am!!! I woke at 2 to feed him but he wasn't interested. Finally got some sleep myself so think that proves it works 😊

We do the 10,2,6 routine with our 8 week old and it works perfect for us. He's bathed at nine then in bed and down for ten and now he doesn't wake up at 2 for a feed. He drinks 6oz a feed sometimes nearly 7

user1493494961 · 25/09/2019 12:31

I did this schedule, mine slept through from 8 weeks and were brilliant sleepers (no regressions).
