Which reusable nappies would you recommend?

Hi there,

We're making plans to test and review reusable nappies and we'd love to know which ones you'd recommend.

If you've been impressed with a reusable nappy brand in the past two years, we'd love to hear about it. Your comments will help us to create a shortlist of nappies to test out and recommend to parents.

Also, if you have any tips on what to look out for when choosing reusable nappies please share them on this thread. We'll include these comments in our buyer's guide

GroVia Hybrid - it's an all-in-2 system where the inserts click into an outer shell. They've lasted well over 2 kids. Grandparents and childminders were full of praise for their ease of use.

@TinaMumsnet will you be reviewing boosters as well as nappies in general? Everyone I know who uses cloth nappies uses boosters and they vary a lot in quality.

I've only ever used 2 reusable nappy brands.

Bambino miosolo - leaked a lot, had to add a booster most of the time which made them incredibly bulky but still leaked.

Totsbots- I had a trial pack containing easyfit, peanut wrap and bamboozle stretch. Was impressed with all. Especially the bamboozle stretch, zero leaks and nowhere near as bulky as the miosolo.

Bumgenius freetimes with a hemp booster always worked well here. Really easy to wash and dry as all parts are connected, no poppering bits back together or stuffing inserts into shells.

Also close pop in (bamboo) are good but not as soft IMO.

For nighttime grovia ONEs or tots bots bamboozles with a wrap.

For day time, I use a mix of Bum Genius v4 (with bamboo inserts), Bum Genius Freetime, and Little & Bloomz pocket nappies (with bamboo inserts). The ones with bamboo inserts are great, especially if your little one is on the chunkier side. The Freetime is smaller, so better for younger or slimmer babies.

For night time, Totsbots Bamboozle with a Peenut wrap is bomb-proof. Back when DD was feeding throughout the night (which was just a week or so ago , at the grand age of 11 months) she would still last 12 hours in that with no leak.

Cloth nappies are so easy nowadays, which I don't think enough people know. Excellent job MN raising awareness!

Nature Babies - just bringing out new two part nappy system : Big Softies, with new wraps - made from British made fabrics and made in UK - really think it is important we buy British and support the local economy!
Tots Bots Easy Fit Star - also made in Britain, plus their Bamboozle and a wrap (prefer Motherease or Nature Babies to their own)
Imse Vimse One Size nappy - really think this is a great fit, very much overlooked, made with organic cotton, the inner and the outer both have elastic at the legs combined with a deep velcro panel for great adjustment so a really good fit.
Motherease Wizard Duo - expensive but works really well.
Close PopIn - often overlooked but a great versatile design works really well.
And also simply terry squares, I'd suggest try Bright Bots White Bots, follow good quality instructions/you tube videos as to how to fold them (honestly it's not difficult) fasten with a Nappi Nippa and use a really good wrap like the Nature Babies one or a Motherease Airflow over the top and it's a cheap cost effective alternative : worth remembering many people are on a budget and you can kit out a complete birth to potty set including muslins for use from birth, liners, washable wipes, bucket etc for under £140, less than the cost of 3 months disposables & wipes.

I love Hempies from The Bottom Line. They're a bit of a pain to get to dry in the right shape but they're so absorbent & I love the freedom to fit them to DD's shape.

DH isn't a fan - he finds the folding/fitting too fiddly. We have a few miosolos for him to put on her but we do use hempies boosters in them because they are more likely to leak.

I'd be interested to know what wraps other people use over squares... I've got a random selection but I'm not finding any of them very good. Can't figure out if it's the wrap type or because they're second hand & quite well used. My favourite is an old version of the totsbots wraps but the modern ones have poppers & I'm not sure whether that would work over the hempies or if the poppers would damage them/get in the way or something...

I have used Bambinex Teddy nappies from the nappy lady with a motherease rikki wrap. I tried a bamboo nighttime nappy which was a Bumble by easy peasy but didn't really get on with them so stuck with the Bambinex with an extra bamboo insert for nighttime.

Reusable nappies have been so easy, along with the wipes from cheeky wipes. No nappy rash, no poo leaks and the only wee leaks have been when I didn't put the wrap on properly.

I was worried about the smell from the nappy bucket but it is minimal. I don't soak the nappies in the bucket, I just wash them every other day first with a rinse then a regular wash. The Teddy nappies don't take very long at all to dry. I was astounded at how quickly they dry.

Toys bots easyfit stars are what we have been using. They suit my husband because they are easy to use and I "build" them after the wash, so they are ready to use.

I agree with PP that boosters make a huge difference, and some are so much better than others

Wonderoos. They could cope with my mega wetting toddler overnight with only one additional booster.

The infamous bombproof combo is a totsbots fluffy nappy, covered with a motherease wrap. NOTHING can get through that!

Hands down Morherease Wizard Unos (I've tried them all and run a nappy library) BUT could luck trying to find any!

I'm a little lambs girl.
I use the 2 part system- bamboo fitted nappies, and their bomb proof wrap.
Works very well for us.

Not used them for over 3 years, since DD potty-trained, but we used Little Lambs Sized nappies with a Motherease wrap over the top or Bumgenius Free time. The Little Lambs & wrap combo was more reliable - bamboo are the most absorbent but take ages to dry after washing, so we mostly used microfibre. The Bumgenius Freetime are easy to use, and nursery / grandparents preferred them, but they did tend to leak around the legs more than the Little Lambs - they come in fabulous designs and bright colours though.

Mio solos are definitely my favourite. Even used them successfully overnight with boosters and a wrap. Hardly any leaks. Ime they definitely need boosting during the day and need changing more often but for me it's worth it when you see how cute they look with a cloth bum on 😍

I love cloth nappies, looking forward to cloth bumming from the beginning with my third, used them for various length of time with previous kids, although we will use some sposies 🤫

Bambino Miosolos worked great for us from 3 to 18 months, but they did start to leak as she was older and had to be boosted. I liked that they were all in one so not too fiddly and easy to wash.

I prefer little lamb pocket nappies

Little Lamb bamboo with Little Lambs wrap. Totally bombproof.

Bambino Miosolo duri g the day for ease of use BUT I boost these with a Little Lamb triple ply size 2 bamboo booster.

Little Lambs is great for all the basics and any extras you may need.

Loved bumgenius from birth to potty training nappys. So convenient and easy to use.

All in ones: Close pop in, bambino mio.

Advice: research washing routine (detergent, rinse cycles), fleece vs disposable liners, how to fit (put on differently to disposables as they need to fit tightly and in pants line)

We mainly use bumbles and little lamb bamboo. For wraps we use Motherease airflows, tots bots peenuts and close wraps.

We've used the same set of bumgenius freetime for both our girls. After 4 years of use, they still function brilliantly. Easy to use and rarely leak.
We've also used little lambs and totsbots bamboozle for night time, with mother ease wraps. We had some issues with the velcro on little lambs, but the totsbots have worked brilliantly. 2 heavy wetters haven't managed to leak through!
Had a couple of issues with childcare (DD2 came home with nappy on backwards!!) But once they knew what they were doing they've been fine with the bumgenius.

It's an absolute minefield. There are so many different types.. different parents and babies need different fits and systems. I have found it so hard to start using them as it's a lot of money to even try them, and it's scary then spending at least £100 (and possibly loads more!) on something that might not work out for you. You also need to get a good wash routine that feels manageable, and bits and bobs to carry when you're out of the house (bulky!). Plus you probably want to use washable wipes too so that's extra investment (but less likely to fail as no fit issues etc!). Also need to buy clothes that are cut for cloth. Need to think about all this before starting as it feels like a lot.

I'm using baba and boo pocket nappies. I've had to buy different inserts for them (some hemp and some charcoal). They are working ok. They don't last as long as a disposable but I expected that. Still using disposables at night as I'm too tired to deal with the hit and miss nature of trying stuff out that might leak and therefore disrupt sleep.

Overall I'm so pleased I'm using them. I feel much better about our contribution to landfill (our black bin waste has literally halved ) and it's nice to put them on my baby. There are a few Facebook groups with people with encyclopaedic knowledge in them who are really helpful, too.

Daytime - Little Lamb pocket nappies with one bamboo Little Lamb insert and one Hemp Babies Little Weeds insert. We were having loads of leaks before we switched our old Little Lamb boosters for the new Little Weeds insert. No leaks at all since.

Used to use Easyfit Stars. Like them for simplicity but they leak too much now our toddler is holding wees for longer.

At night we use a Totsbots Bamboozle plus a Little Lamb booster with a Peenut wrap. I hated the Motherease wraps.

It's a while ago now but I used a nappy lady.Could handle the nappies and see how they fit together.
Avoid velcro especially if you have stumbled drier.Look at how easy they are to dry if you are don't have a tumble drier.
Size,choose some that will fit you child through to being dry at night,we used mother ease with boosters and wraps .
