Two girls then a boy?

Purely out of curiosity.. a friend of mine has two girls and is pregnant with her third. Although she isn't bothered what sex the next one is, neither of us can think of anyone we know who has had two girls then a boy. I've read (can't remember where)that if you have two girls then there's a 70% chance of having another girl. How many of you out there have had two girls and then a boy?

Er, me and two good friends. I don't know that many people that have three children, but I would say it is about equal in terms of boys and girls for the third.

I personally don't subscribe to the 'some people only make one type of baby' thing.
I think you may see less people with three boys, but that is because sane people stop one they have two boys lol! (waits for mothers-of-boys backlash)...

As to whether three girls or two girls and a boy is the best combo, I just don't know lol!

emkana · 09/07/2007 23:06

I have!

When I was pregnant with ds I thought that I didn't know anyone with that combination, now I know loads - two mums at school had boys after two girls shortly after me.

I do think though that you're more likely to have the same sex again when you already have two the same.

I have too! I was very surprised when DH told me when DS was born and made him have another look

Browny · 09/07/2007 23:10

I have!, followed by two boys!

DollyPopsOut · 09/07/2007 23:13

Very interesting.

I have 2 DDs. Am one of 2 DDs. My mother is one of 2 DDs. So was her mother.

I bet if I had another, I'd get a boy, just to buck the trend.

It's the bloke who determines the sex though isn't it?

sweetkitty · 09/07/2007 23:17

I'm pregnant with a third and have 2 girls, I swap between wanting a boy to wanting a girly gang. Can't wait to see what I do get though. I did read some US staudy which disproved the iif you have 2 the same you are more likely to get another one the same theory. Over a huge number of couples it evens itself out apparently it's practically always 51/49 in favour of a girl. Don't know how that explains families of 8 girls etc

Jas · 09/07/2007 23:19

I have.

All the friends I have with three (or more) children have the same sex for the first three though.

i have 2 dds and 1 ds. wasnt particular if ds had been a dd but was very happy when we found out. and ds really looks like dh.

and we have stopped at ds!

sparklygothkat · 09/07/2007 23:27

I had a DS, then 2 DDs and I think this baby is a boy, will find out in 2 weeks

Pheebe · 10/07/2007 07:54

My SIL has 2 girls and is expecting a boy this time.

Personally I think there may be something in the 'some people can only carry one type of baby' theory. I have 1 DS and am pregnant with another boy had have had loads of mcs before and between. My consultant suggested it might be cos I can't carry girls

SpeckledHen · 10/07/2007 08:04

I have 2 dds and am pg with a boy. Unusual pattern I think though Davina McCall had this patten.

JARM · 10/07/2007 08:07

ive got 2 girls, and pg again.

Cant decide on what i want, although healthy is the most important thing!

amyjade · 10/07/2007 08:09

I have 2 Dds and a Ds.
Didn't mind during the pregnancy if i'd had another Dd as that is what i expected to have but was over the moon when i saw boys bits for the first time.
Sil has the same.

Bibis · 10/07/2007 08:10

I have and most people I know who have 3 or more children seem to have the opposite sex at number 3 ie 2gs and 1 b or 2bs and 1 g.

He does seem to be less boisterous than those families with all boys (thank god)

purplemonkeydishwasher · 10/07/2007 08:15

i know Lots of people with 2 dds and a ds. BUT i can't think of ANYONE with the opposite. 2 boys then a girl/

dayofftomorrow · 10/07/2007 09:50

there a few people I know who have several girls (one or no boys) and I can't imagine them having a boy house as it is too rough (also works in other direction as some of the mums of mini rugby teams I can't imagine them with barbies and frills in the house) so maybe nature gives you according to whether you are a "feminine" or "masculine" leaning type (I am probably talking rubbish here just going on gut feeling)

Bibis · 10/07/2007 13:35

both dh and I are from families which are 2bs and 1g, I know many people from the same set up of my generation, can't think off hand about this generation though

Amelily · 10/07/2007 15:03

I was asking really about 2 girls then a boy, I know lots of '2 boys then a girl' families!! Thanks though, clearly a lot of people out there who have broken the trend - if there is such a trend.
