What unnecessary things did you do as a first time mum? (Lighthearted)

With number two on the way, just having a think back about some of the things that I used to do with DS as a first time mum, that were unnecessary, and only made my own life harder!

I wonder if any others would crop up that I haven't recalled doing.

For example... putting a clean pair of pyjamas on him every single night, up until about a month ago (he's 2.4). No wonder I couldn't keep up with the washing!

Changing his nappy as a newborn, every single time the tiniest bit of blue line appeared on his nappy.... we went through over 20 nappies per day in the first week!

Washing all his clothes on the 'baby' setting on my washing machine, took nearly three hours per load, until my mum pointed out, that a higher temperature would kill germs just the same!

Grin at prop baby! I would probably have done that if I had thought of it!
I was OBSESSED with the temperature of the bedroom and checked it about 5000 times every day Blush Now he's nearly 11 and wearing no socks and a t-shirt when the house if frikkin freezing...

DH used to put the wipes on the radiator for a minute so the wipe wasn't too cold on pfb wee bum!!

Also logged feeds and poops for the first few days.

Made all food homemade. No jars. Although to be fair dd2 turns her nose up at pouches. Too bland.

Also lifted pfb at the first whimper.

This thread has cheered up my morning so much! Sitting here with my PFB worried I’m doing it all wrong and you guys have brought me back down to earth. I don’t have much to add to the thread (baby only 7 weeks old) but it’s made me laugh this morning. I love the last post by madeforthis with warming up the baby wipes on the radiator Grin

oh god yeah temp of room was such an obsession!

And the logging! Why did I do that? Did I really need a journal of poops and wees? I suppose sleep and feeding was a little useful but really did I need to do that? pretty sure I could have just remembered the space between each sleep/feed!

MincePieMum · 18/12/2018 12:55

We logged feeds and changes. I had EMCS so we also logged when I had painkillers and when we last ate something!! Those first 5 days or so were just one long blur and I would absolutely have OD'd and failed to eat without the log. Midwife did take the piss out of us a bit!! Grin

Bobbiepin · 18/12/2018 13:38

To be fair, logging feeds and nappies is useful when you're breastfeeding. I had no idea of how many nappies DD had but the midwife was pretty adamant that I'd need to keep an eye on it!

Thank you for the explanation on the prop baby. Wonderful.

There was a previous PFB thread where someone said they were about to go out for a walk with their baby and realised that she and babe had the same number of layers on. Perturbed, as she was aware of rule baby should have one more layer than you, she took her coat off and left the house!!

grissini · 18/12/2018 21:51

@Merename That is the funniest thing I've read today

SPR1107 · 18/12/2018 21:52
