how old is ds3? if he's only little then i think your dad is being a bit mean. he was doing what kids do - telling it straight!

if he's older then yes, maybe a chat about how to talk politely.

HuwEdwards · 20/06/2007 21:54

he was tired, he wanted you - and it's not like he said 'but out oldster, I want me mum'. That would be rude. he was just honest (he's only little isn't he?)

butt

Earlybird · 20/06/2007 21:54

Did you tell ds3 that you couldn't do the story as usual? If so, and then he was off with your dad - you might need to have a chat.

If your ds3 didn't know you were gone, and was counting on/looking forward to special time with mum........only to encounter your dad...then I'd be understanding in this instance.

How old ds3, btw?

harpsichordcuddler · 20/06/2007 21:55

Bree, you are so right

NuttyMuffins · 20/06/2007 21:57

If you change what a young, tired child is expecting to do, who they are expecting to see, then your asking for a bit of straight talking IMO. Kids don't beat around the bush, they say what they mean.

My Ds, is quite often grumpy with my mum, but always for a reason, tired hungry, change of routine or something. Being grumpy and being rude is different and I don't think your ds was rude.

HuwEdwards · 20/06/2007 21:57

oh and I am 44 as we're all spilling

I could have cried.

My DS3 is 4 in a few weeks and he is going through a weird stage with my dad. He won't give him a kiss or say hello and only plays rough games. My dad winds him up though as he sort of teases him plus he is constantly saying "Don't do that" "What have you got?" "DS3 what are you up to, be careful" Drives me farking mad so I think DS3 is actually quite sensible.

Its hard when they come round though - there's always a bit of a tense atmosphere.

Dogsby · 20/06/2007 22:04

yes i think they want th glory
when tbh ds3 likes it best when dad steps back
