Very good kbaby, I remember you saying she liked flying on your knees! How is her unputdownableness now by the way?

DD laughed properly this afternoon... Took her to a friend's to break the deadlock and my friend V.was shaking her head and blowing musical raspberries at DD. DD started coming out with these great giggling peals of real laughter! V. was unaware that this was a new thing until I appeared at her shoulder all starry-eyed. Now I don't care so much if DD likes me or not, as long as she does charming stuff like that.

Twiglett did you buy a Bumbo seat? I was looking at them today; they look just the thing. She has an element of unputdownableness in her still... Need to make the 'down' more appealing. I would love to let her sit on the table with it; she prefers to be at a high level to survey the world.

Excellent, I will buy one. DD's neck is as firm as a chimneystack...But what on earth would you do with two...? (one on head with eyes looking thro' leg holes?)

Judd yes you are glamorous, can't wait to hear about Coventry... and hello Piccadillycircus.

Think by the way that dd is grumpy because she is wanting to feed loads, and I am taking a while to cotton on. Doing that 'surely not AGAIN ' thing. Are growth spurts at 15/16 weeks part of the deal?

I am blabbing on tonight, sorry.

Oooh well, seeing as you asked! DH got Virgin vouchers from work for making a good contribution so we had 2 nights at Coombe Abbey in Coventry. Its "Not an Ordinary Hotel" - everywhere is candelabra lit and gloomy, there is a ghost (apparently) called Geoffrey who roams the gardens, and some "feature" bedchambers have the bathroom hidden behind bookcases so you have to rap the wall to find it like in a Famous Five book! (SO glad we didn't take potty training DD - would have been frantically belting on walls the whole time). DD stayed with PIL and we bonded with DS between the hours of 7am and 7pm. At 7pm, he went to bed in travel cot.....in the bathroom ! Am I heartless? He is such a noisy, fidgety sleeper but seemed quite happy there. Monitor stretched wonderfully to the restaurant where DH and I ate like absolute gluttons whilst trying to look blase about the sumptuousness of the surroundings and the price of the wine list
Spots - I think there is a neurological development going on at 15 weeks, it said so in my book anyway. DS was whingey and unsettled last week...now I just keep watching him suspiciously to see what exactly he has developed! Think it must have been something very subtle......

There is a 15/16 week spurt? - dagnammit! that explains DS then! I am cream crackered.

I am getting me one of those bumbo thangs! - DP, having explained the idea of one, is currently on the sofa giving me that "yes dear, whatever you say dear" looks.

The ace childminder I found earlier this year who was not available until April next year phoned to say that her next booking fell through - would I like to visit? I did today and it is all sorted! She seems really ace and lovely! Her house is far nicer than mine and she has a cat and dog - something that I feel suits my approach as I think pets are important. (in my humble opinion anyway).

My next challenge is to get DS to take the bottle . . . so nice childminder doesn't have issues with him! (Also my line manager also gave me that extra week! hurrah!)

Still wish I wasn't so tired at times, must get head round work time wakings . . . .

GeorginaA · 01/09/2004 23:04

There's a 16 week growth spurt?! That explains a bit... sigh

Ds2 seems fine today healthwise, although could be teething or growth spurting or doing both at once.

We've been out looking for naming ceremony venues today and found somewhere, but am regretting starting this a bit. Ds1 had a naming ceremony so I'm kind of arranging this one because I feel ds2 ought to get the same treatment, but to be honest I don't really feel we can afford (or have the energy!) to hold one this time around.

I'll feel better when all the organisation has been done and I can just get on and enjoy the party, I'm sure.

spots · 02/09/2004 09:25

Yes we are thinking about naming ceremonies too. Having only just got the wedding out of the way (or so it seems) I think we'll just have the two families, and not till December or thereabouts, as dh's sister gets back from USA then. We do at least have a Cake sorted out, because there was so much mix left from the friends' wedding cake that I made an extra one...

Delighted to hear about growth spurts and neurological businesses.

Judd your wee holiday sounds amazing!

libb · 02/09/2004 10:29

GeorginaA, how is DS today? has the rash gone?

kbaby · 02/09/2004 10:30

Spots, the unputabledownness is still there, lurking in the background. The only time it becomes a problem now though is when she needs a nap. Apart from the morning nap which only lasts 45 mins I cant get her to sleep in her cot. We just tend to get around this by either being out, so she sleeps in the pram/car seat or I let her sleep on my lap in the afternoon. TBH though she only really sleeps for about 2 hrs all day. But we dont get up until 9.30 so thats a bit extra sleep. She seems better the less sleep she has. If I let her sleep on my lap for 2hrs thinking that she should be having more sleep, shes grouchy then all afternoon. Once shes awake and happy she loves playing on her mat or bouncy chair so at least I can have a shower etc

DD's discovered that if she coughs I go 'Oh dear' in a very sing songy voice. Therefore she now pretends to cough so that I do it and then laughs and coughs again, then again and on we go until one of us gets bored.

Anyone else losing loads of hair. Its all falling out

spots · 02/09/2004 13:09

she sounds brilliant kbaby!

libb · 02/09/2004 18:53

I have just found lots of patches of over dry skin all over DS's arms, legs and back

What could it be? He doesn't seem to be annoyed by it and nothing in his routine has changed so I am not assuming it is a reaction to something. My beautfiul darling has always such lovely skin . . . .

Judd · 02/09/2004 19:52

KBaby - do you mean your hair is falling out? Mine is too - shedloads of the stuff! I even warned the girl who washed my hair at the hairdressers last week incase it freaked her out! Is it hormonal - I don't remember it happening last time round, but am mightily relieved to have a reason for it!

I know it's been said before but my do you girls talk.

DS is 4 months (and 6 days) I can't quite believe it. This time round with dd I was staring to wean! He's become very inquisitive- his little eyes are constantly darting around, and he can't stop talking. (According to dd he can now "say "Ah-goo" and "wah" and notin else") He loves his bumbo too (twiglett - spots was thinking 2 bumbos - spots, twiglett meant 2 grobags) and has got the hang of putting Mr Caterpilars ears in his mouth. Part of me feels quite guilty that practically all his toys are old ones of dd's, but it is nice to see him going through the same developmental steps with them. Don't think he's going to be rolling anytime soon - there's just too much bulk to manouever, but he can twizzle round 90 degrees woth his bum as the pivot. HE also managed to push himself off the sofa yesterday - god knows how but it seems he just pushed with his legs when I had left him propped in the corner and went straight over the arm, did a somersault and landed on his tummy. Doesn't seem to have done any pemanent damage though - but surely I must win worst parent award?

GeorginaA · 02/09/2004 20:35

libb: seems fine today. Can still see a shadow of the five spots, but faded - look more bruisey now

Has anyone else noticed that their babe is less self-entertainable now? Ds2 is definitely getting bored with just watching ds1 or batting his toys on his chair and wants "proper" interaction now all the time. No more escaping quickly for 15 mins to sort out the washing while ds2 watched ds1 playing perfectly content. :(

Fortunately, nursery starts again for ds1 Monday, so I won't feel like I'm selling them both short all the time.

GeorginaA · 02/09/2004 20:36

Prufrock - that sounds so scary :( Bet he howled... actually it's quite impressive - sure you haven't got a budding acrobat? :)

Bozza · 02/09/2004 20:38

I nipped DD's tummy in the buckle (well fastening thing) of the bouncy chair Prufrock - thats my entry. She screamed and had a nasty red mark. Felt very guilty.

I'm starting to come under pressure to wean. MIL says "its not enough" when I told her that the current advice is 6 months. And DH came out with the old "well its not done DS any harm" line. DD is only 15 weeks though and when last weighed was only 12 lb 9 (OK that was over a week ago).

She rolled over yesterday. But doesn't look like she's about to put in a repeat performance. She's always wanting to be stood up or at least sat up. Not at all into being cradled and complains if I carry her facing me - wants to be held so she can look out at the world.

Bozza · 02/09/2004 20:40

Yes Georgina its this wanting to sit or stand all the time business in our case.

Kbaby - how does your DD do in the swim seat - saw it in the photo. They are available at our swimming baths but have not put DD in one yet.

GeorginaA · 02/09/2004 20:56

Bozza: stick to your guns, girl! I can't believe that in 11 days time, that'll be the equivalent age I weaned ds1. I don't regret weaning ds1 then - it was right for him (I was recovering from bad mastitis and with the antibiotics my supply was low... he loved solids from the word go, and even now isn't that big a milk fan), but ds2 just seems way too little to start solids anytime soon! He's only just been born, ffs! Where did all the time go?!

I'm aiming for 6 months, definitely going to wait until after our holiday in Spain which would make it nearer 5 anyway...

linnet · 02/09/2004 21:10

I got dd2 weighed yesterday she's 13lbs 15oz. She's 15 weeks tomorrow I can't believe the weeks have gone so fast. My granny asked me if I was going to start her on solids soon. I told her that current advice is 6 months and she told me that dd2 will never last until then that's far to long to wait. In granny's day you weaned them when they reached a certain weight but she can't remember what that weight was. I'll take my cue from the Hv's I think. None of them have mentioned weaning yet not surprising since she's only three and a half months. A friend who's HV's are the same as mine was told 4 months by one of them and 6 months by the other, Hhmm.

I've been trying to lie dd2 on her tummy but she hates it doesn't lift her head and gets very upset until today that is when I tried something different. If she's lying on her mat she tries to roll her legs over as if she wants to roll over. So today I put her on her side then gently sort of patted her bum so that she moved and she rolled over onto her tummy, lol And once she was on her tummy she held her head up and had a look around, she looked so cute. Ok, so it doesn't count as a proper roll becuase I helped her but at least she didn't head butt the mat like she usually does. She thought it was really funny and had a giggle which was nice.

She had a 2 hour lunchtime nap today as well, for the first time ever! Usually she has a nap of 45 minutes wakes up and won't go back to sleep so I get her up for half an hour change her nappy she's still tired through all this and so goes back to bed for another 45 minutes. But today I put her down for her nap and she slept for 2 hours straight. I could have done loads of things around the house but I kept thinking she's going to wake up soon so I'll just wait. Oh well at least I got to watch Neighbours in peace

So it's been a pretty productive day for dd2.
Oh and I booked my frist driving lesson yesterday, it's not until the 14th though. I'm excited but scared at the same time, it's been years since I had driving lessons, but I really should learn it would be nice to have the use of a car eventually.

Bozza · 02/09/2004 21:31

Well done linnet. Sounds like a very productive day for you. DD has had pants naps today after really good ones yesterday. Had to put her to bed early she was so tired so will probably pay tonight. Nice thing was though that it meant I could do DS's routine like I used to even to the "shout daddy" bit because she was so soundly asleep.

Georgina I'm using our holiday in Scotland as an excuse too. Don't want to be messing with purees, sterilising etc in the caravan - works quite well with DH.
