kbaby - thats awful. Agree with Twiglett - totally different perspective when you've got your own.

BTW Twiglett I did have a look at that link. Actually I'm not too worried about DD because I got DS's chart out and lo and behold it was v. similar. I've come to the conclusion that for some reason I give birth to big babies who are not destined to remain that way because neither DH nor I are that big. Anyway DS has seen to it that I'm not going to the clinic again this week (stayed away last week because of DD's cold) so it will be over a month by the time I go again.

Egypt I did kind of mind cancelling because I'm cooped up in the house with the two of them with nowhere to go and DS is getting more and more fed up with the situation besides being grumpy from not feeling good. My parents, in-laws and one sister are all on holiday. My other sister is pregnant and working full time so I'm a bit stuck for somewhere we can go just to get out of the house. Went to the tip today as our outing!

Kbaby we're getting dangerously close to comparing our babies but here goes anyway. DD can do all the things you listed except I'm not sure about the rolling from back to side one. She can pull to standing from laying/sitting and she can stand holding onto something (but I have to keep my hands hovering because she will let go and flop with no warning).

I think its a bit strange that they don't give their babies toys. DD lays down with a soft toy on her belly and wrestles it with her arms and legs and mouth, or has a variety of rattles, or the toy bar on her chair, or the baby gym. Plus some electronic toys that DS delights in playing for her all the time.

Kbaby, so sorry to hear about your DP's colleague. That is just devastating.

Kbaby, I'm so sorry to hear about your dh's work colleague.

kbaby · 21/09/2004 11:05

Twiglett I agree I cry at anything these days. Animal hospital and holby are big no no's. Also found myself crying at never ending story where the horse gets stuck and dies in the quick sand oh and a homeless man and his dog the other day.

Bozza your DD is standing, good god. DD straightens her leg for half a second and then just bends them again. Im trying not to worry too much about dd's weight as she looks ok just dainty.
Bought the contented weaning guide yesterday and annabel someones recipe book. When I told dp I was going to make my own baby food he nearly choked as apparently I dont even know what a carrot looks like. Cant wait to start weaning

Egypt · 21/09/2004 11:07

what sad news kbaby. definitely worst nightmare

this one

Judd · 21/09/2004 13:38

K Baby - that's a lovely photo! (the "sucking thumb" link works, the other one doesn't).
I've got the Annabel Karmel book as well - my quibble with her is that her family must have very dainty appetites! Some of her toddler recipes say "4 adult portions" so we make double, hoping to get dinner for me and DH out of it and loads left over to freeze for DD. Sometimes this just isn't the case and poor DD is left with nothing (mind you, she's requested philadelphia cheese and jam sandwich for tea the last 5 nights, so she's hardly likely to care )

Egypt · 21/09/2004 16:50

that's a lovely picture kbaby. does she poke her eyes like dd?

OP posts:
kbaby · 21/09/2004 17:41

yes and she seems to get confused as to where her mouth is and takes her a while to find it

Egypt · 21/09/2004 18:01

yes us too. she starts by putting her hand on the top of her forehead then drags it down her face until her thumb ends up in her mouth...bless

linnet · 21/09/2004 21:42

Kbaby I've got the Anabel Karmel cook book as well. I'm really looking forward to making my own baby food, will probably lose interest after a while but at least I'm going to give it a go. I got it when dd1 was 3 so didn't get to use any of the baby puree recipes.

I told my granny and what did the woman of wonderfully helpful inspiring wisdom say...Just buy jars, babies don't like home made food they prefer jars! Honestly I ask you, like jars of baby food were even invented when her kids were babies, she makes me so cross sometimes.

I had to cancel my driving lesson today dh had to go on a health and safety course for work and I didn't have anyone to babysit dd2. What did my granny say about that? probably just as well as it's really windy? what? she also says I have more money than sense learning to drive and that she's never going to get in a car with me driving it. I said that's ok granny I'll be sure to wave at you walking past me in the pouring rain.

Oh and we don't know if we're going to be able to go on our holiday as the assistant manager at dh's work went off over the weekend with apendicitis and is going to be off for 6 weeks so we don't know if dh will get his holiday time or not it all depends on whether or not they can get cover. Gggrrr I just ordered a blinking buggy(techno xt) and a travel cot(samsonite pop up one) and might not even need them now! We're waiting to hear from dh's manager still haven't booked the flights yet and the longer we wait the more expensive it's going to be. Do you ever have days when you wonder why you bothered getting out of bed?

other than that dd2 doing fine, sometimes rolls from her back onto her side but goes no further. Had lots of giggles today and loads of stories. and snoopy got a lot of chewing

Oh Driving instructor just sent me a text message to rearrange my lesson for Friday, yipee

kbaby · 22/09/2004 16:00

You can tell everyones on holiday. Is so quiet.

Linnett hope you get some good news about your holiday.
I also ordered the contented weaning book by GF only because I have no idea if im suposed to start breakfast first or lunch and do I give milk and if so is it at the start of the meal or after. This weaning thing is so confusing. Somehow I received 2 gf books from amazon so must of ordered 2 by mistake, if anyone wants one ive got 1 going spare.
Off chosing wedding dresses again tomorrow. Ive narrowed it down to 3 now so im dragging my mum and brother along and im going to get them to choose which one. Ill be so glad when its out of the way.
DD's discovered that she has a tongue, shes sticking it out all the time and licking her lips and going about with it constantly hanging out. Very Attractive

Egypt · 22/09/2004 16:45

yesit's very quiet. my friend has just left. we decided to go to the cinema last night and left dh with dd. i fed her and put her to bed at 7. she went straight to sleep. we left and at 9.15 received a text from dh saying not to worry but could we come home straight after the film as dd has been awake since 7.15 screaming the place down. she wouldnt take any bottle and couldnt be consoled. luckily my lovely friend said lets go right away, as she could see that i was like a cat on a hot tin roof. when we got up the road, passed dh taking her for a drive. if he'd done that at 8 we could've watched the end! she went to sleep then. it was horrible. she obv just wanted a boob for comfort. now i'm worried i've got her into that habit of wanting me. it was horrid knowing that my d had been screaming for 2 hours and i didnt know. the funny part of the night was dh telling me that i shouldn't have had garlic bread for tea as there were chives in her nappy!...........oh bless. think darling think.........

saying that she has had the odd green nappy lately. what does this mean?

oh and if anyone has seen the terminal pls tell me how it ends!

OP posts:
kbaby · 22/09/2004 17:56

sounds like you have had a eventful night. im supposed to see the terminal this weekend so ill let you know. weve also had the odd green poo. i put it down to lots of fore milk the day before and within a day or so it had gone back to korma colour.

SusiS · 22/09/2004 21:59

I am not on holiday. May I join you?
My name's Susi and I am mum to Lucas (born 7th may) - how is everybody today? DS put to bed at 7pm, he actually fell almost asleep in my arms (we've been out) and he just had a little screem - but could settle him with dummy and stroking his head. DP is at work (nightshift worker)

Judd · 22/09/2004 22:25

Hi SusiS...welcome! The more the merrier
Kbaby - have just posted on your weaning thread - I'm sure there will be loads of stuff on this thread about that very soon! Tonight DS blew raspberries through his baby rice - managed to spray it far and wide! DD thought it was hilarious and I had to explain why it is funny when a baby does it, but NOT when an almost 3 year old does! Milk hasn't been reduced at all so far but will start to do so at 5 months - think that's covered in the GF book.
Twiglett - saw on another thread you are originally from Didsbury. I lived there post University and used to do aerobics at Beaver Road School (and childishly giggle over its name many a time!)
Right, I think I've used this thread to post everything I wanted to!

libb · 22/09/2004 22:25

Hi SusiS - the more the merrier, if our darlings allow! I have a DS currently in mardy mode - he had his last jabs on Monday and has grumped on and off since, he also has a wee cold and teething to contend with. All that said, this is his earliest night in a week - yet another phase?! Having had recent nights of contesting until 10.30 pm, I really hope so.

Tis my mantra, this is a phase, this is a phase . . . anyway, welcome SusiS!

Egypt · 23/09/2004 08:25

welcome susi! I have a dd, 17 weeks old tomorrow. she's being a real grump at the moment too. not q sure what is happening. she was awake almost every hour last night. seeing the hv today. might get some ashton and parsons. dont think we need to wean just yet, as she put on the obligatory 6oz again last week. little porker!

OP posts:
libb · 23/09/2004 09:38

Oh blimey, what an awful start to the morning! I feel like a s**t (sorry for the language)

I sat on the end of the bed just as DS decided to pratice his rolling - straight off the bed!

I have never moved so fast, he cried for all of half a minute and then latched on for a feed - whilst I sat sobbing into his hair. Our bed is pretty low but I am keeping a close eye on him nonetheless. I feel so guilty and awful.

SusiS · 23/09/2004 10:06

Thank you all
Are you all firsttimemums or have you got more kids? Because I am a firsttimer
Judd: can imagine that it's hard sometimes to keep a straight face when DS does something funny (because mine makes me laugh many times) - lots of explaining to DD, ha [wink}
When did you start weaning? I had to start wk15 because we were already on 7bottles a 7oz and well, you started to see that (my little buddha )
But no chance to give him babyrice he has 2 spoons and won't open his mouth again. So I gave him veggies (from the glass; I know I should cook it myself, but we recently moved here so I am not completly set up yet .. but soon )
He seems to like it though and I manage to mix some babyrice in - he has half a glass with his 11am bottle and after 2 weeks I gave him half a glass fruits with his 5pm bottle. And I gradually try to reduce the amount of milk. little steps ... but he is still quite big although he was big at the birth already!

And do you all still give bottles/bf at night???
Everybody tells me their kid sleeps through - mines obviously the exemption
He still wants 2 bottles (12ish/4ish) and in between he wakes too but I manage to soothe him back to sleep without food.

And he also had his 3. injection on monday and he actually had temperature - was not nice for all of us. He just couldn't settle in the evenings mainly and it took hours of comforting. I gave him 1/2spoon calpol and he slept quite well - and we are over it now!

Lately he "discovered" rolling onto his tummy. Well, he could do this for weeks now but somehow now it's like he really wants to - compared to before when it was more like an "accident". And believe you me he does it all day long. And when he is on his tummy for too long then he calls me to turn him back - and he does it sometimes at night too!

And he also discovered his legs. Legs and arms are permanently in the air and kicking around like mad! Don't come too close

Libb; has yr DS got teeth yet? because mine got his first wk15 and right away a second one - looks really cute when he laughs at you

egypt: omg, you had an evening out? I am not there yet although dp offered! but I am considering it and might take the chance
I've seen the terminal, really cute and quite funny movie - but I don't want to spoil it for anybody in case someone else wants to see it ...

omg, did I just type all this

anyways, thanks for you welcome
Susi

SusiS · 23/09/2004 10:11

aaaaww poor libb!!!
happened to me too - probably happens to everybody when little ones roll over the first time. Mine was on the couch when he discovered it and off he went
I was sobbing too, more than he did. Just like yours he cried a minute and he was alright. I just watched him really closely the next 2 days or so. If he was ok after his fall. But seems that he's got his dad's head

I know it's shocking - big hug for you!
Susi

Egypt · 23/09/2004 12:31

susi your ds is growing up fast! teeth too! blimey. i think only judd has started weaning.

poor you libb, it's the worst thing in the world when your little one hurts itself. i remember putting my little finger in dd's mouth to suck when she was a few weeks old and she jolted her head forwards - my nail went right into the roof of her mouth and she screamed the house down. it was awful. felt really bad. no long fingers since! (well, she's stopped sucking them now). anyway, going.........she's asleep.

OP posts:
Judd · 23/09/2004 12:52

Susi - how big was your ds at birth? I trust he's not going to knock my ds off his "King Porky" podium (born at 11lb 5oz)
Tried to cram his bottom into a bumbo today but couldn't get it to work right. I didn't want to push and pull too much as he'd just fed....

SusiS · 23/09/2004 15:06

Judd: [shock shock] allright you win!!! he was not THAT big but still 8pd15oz
But me thinks he is trying to tell me something which I just realized - he is about to drop a bottle

okiedokie dp is up! going to watch a movie as long as ds is happy with his tree
