yesterday worked at the university didn't take anything to save assignment work on so emailed it to myself so as that i could access it from home.
Opened up the attachment once home and began work. Assignment is duein monday i was stressing so stayed up over night to get as much done as I could in hope to finish it today. Whilst working on it I was saving it. I was shattered this morning so lazily just emailed myself it rather than getting up and looking for usd disk. Got to uni to find it was the original attachment. Came home and there is no sign of it on pc. I was saving it please can you tell were it has gone?

it will be there, if you havent opened to many files - you can find it easily several ways.

You can open say 'microsoft word' and click on file - it may be at the bottom of there.

Or click file - then open, and dependant on whcih microsoft version you are using, there is a button on the left saying 'recent document' if you click on that it should bring it up there too.

Do this:

  1. open (original) attachment again (from original email)
  2. click "save as" to find out which folder it is in (Usually C:\Documents and Settings\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK5F)
  3. Go to Start > Run and type in the path to the directory: e.g.

C:\Documents and Settings\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK5F

That will open the directory. There should be various copies of the file in there.

If you have rebooted since saving it, you might have lost it though.

morningpaper · 08/06/2007 13:07

Outlook attachments go into temp files and don't register as documents in Last Viewed file lists, or in fact are not accessible through Windows searches - only through DOS or through opening the folder in the command line

FLIER · 08/06/2007 13:09

You could open up Window Explorer then..

  1. Click on Search
  2. Select All Files and Folders
  3. Where it asks for a file name, type .
  4. Under when was it modified, select yesterdays/this mornings dates.
  5. Tell it to search your entire harddrive (C) usually

I'm going to go and have a sleep for couple of hours. I just want to cry. Since April 13th (friday the 13th)I've broken up with h, had a crash, countless arguments due to h passive aggressiveness (still under same roof) broke my bed and portable tele that I'd sorted out for me in the spare room and the constant battle of trying to balance house viewings and the tidying frenzy that brings with uni work and with my 4yr old and 6yr old. I have three big assignments to complete, two this month and thats with extensions and one for july together with starting a new placement, having an end of year tripartite and sorting out a new elective placement (which my first choice was stopped by the uni) and then last week child tax credits stopped all payments, I reapplied rang up yesterday and was told they never received the form.
Should I take a break from uni until things get sorted out i.e with divorcing h or do I just grit my teeth have a couple of hours kip and back in front the pc?

I think I'm going to crack up th

If you want to do/be the best you can at uni then maybe you've answered your own question - maybe you should take a break from uni while you get everything else sorted.
Sorry you're having such a rough time of things and this file getting "lost" is the last thing you need....

On the other hand, is there anybody you could call on to help with childcare, housework etc? Cos maybe you'll need the uni qualification once you come through your divorce and everything.
Once its all finished the sense of achievement you will have will make you feel so good about yourself.

hope you're ok.

OP posts:
Katy44 · 08/06/2007 14:11

Where is it on your computer? If you can find the physical file, make a copy first?
I think if it's OK, you can open it, if not, opening it won;t make any difference, but making a copy can't hurt

Katy44 · 08/06/2007 14:12

I think it sounds promising by the way

Upsadaisygoonpunkmakemyday · 08/06/2007 14:13

Put the cursor over it and the little box came up and said 0 bytes I bet its not there

Upsadaisyvvvtired · 08/06/2007 14:37

I'm off to get some sleep for a couple of hours. I'm then going to get up and spend time with the kids and put my feet up for the rest of the night. I will be up veryyyyyy early as I will be attempting to complete my 3500 word care study in two days, whilst entertaining my boys. A visit to blockbusters to rent out lots of kids movies and a playstation game I think and takeaways for tea all rules out the window
