Make me feel better, please!

he has 'dry' patches, and I stop buying the pull ups, then he reverts back to wetting the bed three times a night, and I can't hack it and after 2 weeks I put him back in pull ups!

I'm just bumping this.

Don't know what's normal for a 4-year-old, because my soon to be 4 year old is SN and nowhere near potty-training at all.

PandaG · 25/05/2007 16:43

DD came out of nappies the day before her 5th birthday, and has had 10-12 accidents in the last 2months. Not at all unusual.

Crotchety · 25/05/2007 16:46

Got a 5 year old still in pull ups.

Ds1 wasn't dry at night til he was 6. My dh was about that age as was his dad and my dad. We didn't stop with the pull ups til he had been dry every night for 3wks because having an accident upset him more than wearing the pull ups. Check family history but don't worry, nothing unusual at all.

Grrrr · 25/05/2007 16:48

Me.

I'm not bothered at the moment, we're still concentrating on staying dry during the day

Chugnuts · 25/05/2007 16:48

I have a 6yr-old in nappies at night and a 4yr-old in nappies day and night.

Feeling any better yet?

elliott · 25/05/2007 16:48

similar experience to you - finally had success when he turned 5 and asked to try again. We still have lapses, but mostly he is dry.

haggisaggis · 25/05/2007 16:50

dd will be 5 in AUgust and she is still in pull ups at night. If I stop all drinks after 6 p.m. she is dry - but she likes her bedtime drink - and until she learns to wake and go to the toilet I'm not bothering about it and keeping her in pull ups.

colditz · 25/05/2007 16:50

feel much much better.

Thanks for the bump expat.

DS 1 was still in them at 5.

Spider · 25/05/2007 17:10

Yep. My DS is in them at 5. Bizarre considering he was out of them at 3 years old for a good 9 months.

katelyle · 25/05/2007 17:10

I had a nearly 5 year old in pull ups at night. Don't worry about it - he'll get there when he's ready. It doesn't matter! Oh and don't restrict liquids in the evening if you were thinking of doing that - apparantly it just concentrates the pee, and makes it more irritant to the bladder so they pee just as much if not more!

If he's not bothered, don't you be!

cylonbabe · 25/05/2007 17:11

does an almost six year old count?
he's never had a dry night....

larkspur · 25/05/2007 17:13

DS was in pull ups at night until he was 7. It then just suddenly clicked - don't think messages between brain and bladder were getting through before then for him.

tortoiseSHELL · 25/05/2007 17:16

Ds1 stopped wearing pull ups the Easter before he was 5, (2006), but it's taken till now for him to be reliable - we've just stopped lifting him when we go to bed and he hasn't wet the bed in a long time. Dd who will be 4 in August is still in pull ups and showing no signs of being dry!

brimfull · 25/05/2007 17:17

my friend's dd was 11 still in pull ups when she started her period

tortoiseSHELL · 25/05/2007 17:19

They generally say 7 is the age by which children will 'normally' be out of pullups, so there's huge variation from 2-7. I think once they reach 7 they can be referred to see if there is a problem. Things that can help are making sure they drink enough during the day, as that increases the bladder capacity. But until they get their night time urine suppression hormone, there's not a lot of hope!

Jacanne · 25/05/2007 17:58

I'm thinking of trying the motherease bedwetter pants, partly to save pennies but also because they're a step away from nappies - has anyone else used them with any success?

YeahBut · 25/05/2007 19:15

Dd2 is 5.5 and nowhere near ready to be out of pullups at night. Dd1 was a similar age before she was dry at night. No drama.

NannyL · 25/05/2007 19:21

all of my charges have been in pull ups at 4

(some even 5+)

so thats 5 in pullups from me!

DeviousDaffodil · 25/05/2007 19:22

DS1 was in pull ups until 5. Ds2 was nearly 4.
They are not ready till they're ready!

cylonbabe · 25/05/2007 19:24

jacanne, they worked wonders foor ds1. but ds2 refuses to wear them.
