hands up who still has/had a 4 year old in pull ups at night?

Make me feel better, please!

he has 'dry' patches, and I stop buying the pull ups, then he reverts back to wetting the bed three times a night, and I can't hack it and after 2 weeks I put him back in pull ups!

DS1 was finally dry at night at 7y3m. DS2 is nearly 6 and still wearing Pull-Ups, though TBH he is dry for weeks at a stretch and only wets occasionally. He won't give them up though - says he will when he is 6! I did stop buying them but he got very distressed...So I have agreed we will carry on until he is 6.

Yes.

DD is 5 in August, was late (ish) to day train (3.5) and is still sopping wet at night, despite witholding drinks after 5.00 (she goes to bed at 7 - 7.30) and making sure she has a wee before she gets into bed. I'm not remotely bothered about it, tbh. I'll start to get a bit restless if she is still the same in 9 mo to a years time.

My eldest son was still in pull ups at night until he was in reception class at five. My DS2 is 4 years 2 months & doesn't wear pull ups purely because he refuses to put them on. He still has lots of accidents, so I feel he should still wear a pull up at night.

The thing is that you do have a certain amount of 'control' over their daytime wetting/training, but there is nothing you can really do to stop them wetting at night, as daffodil says, they are ready when they are ready

Jas · 25/05/2007 19:31

DD1 was almost 5, but is not unheard of to have a night time accident at almost 8.
DD2 was mostly dry at 3, but at 6 wets the bed about once a month.

I'm sure this runs in families. My brother was over 7 before he was dry at night, and dp was a teenager.

I'm not expecting ds to be dry at night by 4, either.

I have a six year old still in nappies at night time, and we haven't got as far as having dry patches yet. I can count the number of dry nappies she's ever had on the fingers of one ... well, on one finger, actually.

I'm not worried about it (although the sodden, honking nappies are a pain in the morning!). It's not something she can help and not something that can be trained.

There's a hormone which kicks in to suppress urination overnight, and until that happens they can't physically control their night wetting.

It will happen when it does.

WWB, your DD sounds just like mine. She seems to save it all up until night-time

WigWamBam · 25/05/2007 19:39

It makes for lovely nappies in the morning, doesn't it

NomDePlume · 25/05/2007 19:41

hmmmm

DD is getting quite funny about it now though, she is insisting that the 'nappy fairy' needs to come so she can wear knickers to bed, but there is absolutely no way she is ready for it. In a bid to appease her I stoppped buying the pull ups and bought the Huggies bedtime pants (the ones with butterflies etc on them), mainly so she could see the older children on the packaging and the age range of 4 - 7 years.

DD3 recently came out of pull ups at 6.2months. She is a VERY deep sleeper and just doesn't feel the urge and does it in bed.

I stopped worrying about it at 5 yrs old. Just carry on using them. I eventually bought Bed Mats (?) and took the pull ups off, to make the wet bed more uncomfortable for her and make her aware when she was weeing.

She's dry 99% of the time now, unless I forget to make her wee before bed or she drings after about 7pm.

WigWamBam · 25/05/2007 19:50

We had to do the same thing, NDP. They're not as absorbent as nappies but dd was getting self-conscious.

She gets a bit upset about it every now and then, but whenever we've tried letting her go without a nappy she gets more distressed about having a wet bed three times a night so we always end up back in nappies/PJ pants again.

Every now and then she gets upset because she's still not dry - but we just have a little chat about it, I reassure her that she can't help it, it doesn't matter and she'll get there in the end.

I'd love to see an end to those rancid nappies though; holding them at arm's length with a peg on my nose is going to have to do for now though

edam · 25/05/2007 20:00

Ds is nearly 4 and still in pull-ups. Which are always full in the morning so no chance he'll be dry soon. I'm not bothered, tbh, he'll grow out of it at his own pace.

FrannyandZooey · 27/05/2007 11:27

Oh hello

ds 4.1 and still wet nappy every night. We just use the ordinary biodegradable nappies - we were chatting about it this morning and dp wondered if we should try him without, but he is wet every night, has never expressed a desire to go without, and he sleeps well now which I have NO desire to change

Flame · 27/05/2007 11:28

Me

Think Surfer does too.

Flame · 27/05/2007 11:29

Jaccane - I use Bedwetters

quadrophenia · 27/05/2007 11:32
