I feel like I've tired absolutely everything and I'm still in agonising pain whenever I breastfeed. Childbirth honestly feels like a doddle in comparison. I have to clamp something between my teeth every time I get baby to latch on so I don't scream out in pain and frighten her.

Is it really going to be worth it in the end?

Hydrasorb gelpads for nipples. They are used for healing burns. The only thing that helped me.

I was in toe curling, screaming, cursing and continuously streaming profanities agony for two weeks. Then it got much better. By 4 weeks BFing was my favourite part of the day - baby eats, baby all content, baby falls asleep on me, I read and drink coffee and play with my phone and don't have to do anything. It was honestly super easy.

Hang in there. BFing groups can help, if only to call them while sobbing and ask them to tell you if it will be better. But they will also check latch. Good luck.

Congratulations on your new little one. I'm glad to hear the the pain is getting better and you can enjoy BF a bit more now. My DD is 5 months and still EBF. Had one very sore very infected nipple at the start that was agonising and even through nipple shields was awful and it wasn't until DD was 6/7 weeks old it started healing and the pain disappeared.

I'm on day 11 and have had this. It's been getting better gradually and the pain is almost completely gone on one boob. The other nipple is cracked so taking longer to heal but I've found the rugby hold position much more comfortable as he's approaching the nipple from a different angle so not irritating the cracked part. Feeding lying down helps a lot too. Good luck!

99% of breastfeeding problems can be fixed with the right support, so it's really important that you find a local breastfeeding support group.

If it's sore, then the technique I used was, after the feed, rub breastmilk all over nipple, allow to dry, apply lansinoh liberally.

It did get better, and once we got the hang of it, being able to leave the house with just a nappy and a pack of wipes felt very liberating.

Try taking a paracetomol half an hour before feeds, and of course, a small glass of wine in the evening will make you feel less like a milk machine.

Good luck.

Well done for getting through that awful bit, it is so hard but so worth it. You are a trooper!
