Proud to have breast fed

I will start off by saying I don't care if you bf or ff. I see so many posts where women say they ff but none on bf. they get taken down or people straight away think it's a dig. Honestly what ever you chose to do you do.

However after so many negative and nasty comments when I was breastfeeding I can say I did it. I didn't give in to the people who were nasty I didn't let them bully me into stopping. I was a younger mum not young young but I was young and I was still very insecure about a lot of things and I did not feel supportive.
I do remember once the first time I breastfed on the bus I did that thing where I assumed everyone would be staring and one elder gentlemen was and he just grinned a very kind grin and that kept me going through some of the nasty comments.
If you are breast feeding and getting comments from family or friends please ignore it because looking back they were just insecure (not everyone but the ones I New) or they are just plain nasty. Anyone who makes a nasty comment about that isn't nice nor needed.
But remember wether you breastfeed or bottle it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Online people get so angry about it but it really doesn't matter guys

I still nice to feel proud when faced with such nasty comments. As with ff be proud you stuck to your guns and did what you wanted or in some cases had to. Be prouder be strong

On a page I know a women put a pic up of her ff and said ff as proud and she got so much support from bf and ff and it was kept on and good. But a women then did with breastfeeding and the abuse it was terrible but it got taken down.
I don't like that.

Congratulations!
Breastfeeding can be very challenging and it did feel good to have been able to do it for me. Especially with my last dc where I nearly gave up. I am glad I persevered as it did get easier for me. It don't get easier for some and that is ok. Fed is best. But that don't mean nobody is allowed to feel good to have been able to do it.

@earthmoon yes well done. The first bits are horrible. O had a lot of problems with it defo at the start but then throughout there were problems. If I'd only had the one boob I would have had to stop as I lils by use one for a few days

Good for you op. I'm proud that I exclusively formula fed, and didn't succumb to the constant pressure to breastfeed. I had the 'breast is best' pushed on me throughout my pregnancy, and an awful student midwife during one of my antenatal appointments who tried to insist on writing that I'd be happy to try it in my notes, even though the complete opposite was true.
I'm glad I stuck to what I wanted to do and didn't let the judgements of the NICU then SCBU staff get to me. I never wanted to try breastfeeding or expressing, so I didn't. Thankfully the midwife and student midwife in the birth centre were very supportive of my decision, as were the community midwives I saw after the birth, also my health visitor was very supportive as well.
Some people want to bf, some want to try it, others don't at all. However you feed your baby is fine with me. But there's no need for a post that may make mums who couldn't bf feel bad. (I don't feel bad or guilty because I never ever wanted to do it, but other people might).

Keepdlingwhatyourgutsays · 25/04/2018 19:51

Happy mummy and good for you. Be proud you stuck to your guns and did what you wanted with yours. It's your baby ignore all the negative comments people who make them are just nasty and really not worth it. 😀

It designed for that it's a post for mums who did breastfeed like post for mums who formula feed. No offence to be given here.

LivininaBox · 25/04/2018 19:53

I don't understand why people who find the thread upsetting or offensive bothered clicking on it in the first place. The thread title is perfectly clear.

Unfortunately MN is full of people whose main hobby is getting all offended.

Keepdlingwhatyourgutsays · 25/04/2018 19:53

It's designed for mums who did to ask questions like how long. To empower each other to ignore the negative no offence to be given to ff. like stated several times. There are lots for formula feeders and I have no issue with that.

does anyone think mums like Tamara have encourage younger mums to try it?

Grandmaswagsbag · 25/04/2018 20:00

Good for you op. Of course you should be proud because it’s bloody hard work sometimes and there is often pressure from friends relatives to stop. But sadly I’ve seen this exact thread on here before and it had to be removed because it turned into such a fight.

Olivebrach · 25/04/2018 20:02

Im proud to be breastfeeding my son. Never faced much negativity but i was really worried while pregnant that i wouldnt be able to...

I think its amazing and beautiful that my body created a liquid that sustained my son fully for 6 months and continues to do so! He is 9 months atm and hope to go as long as he wishes!

I do think fed is best but yea congrats op for sticking with bf :)

Keepdlingwhatyourgutsays · 25/04/2018 20:03

Grandmas this Is so awful you can never discuss it or be happy you did it. I'm surprised at how many family and friends do I would never I've never commented on how my formula feeding friends have fed there's .
Maybe we should ignore the negative then so it doesn't turn into a fight. I'm definetly not looking for one.

Anyone mums like Tamara do we think they encourage the young. They certainly helped me think if she can I can

Keepdlingwhatyourgutsays · 25/04/2018 20:05

O well done. 9 months is going good. If someone had just handed me my 12 month old I'd have gone no shame to big to feed but they are still so tiny and gradually feeding them to that age 12 months seemed like nothing. This was before I had a baby I thought that and. Ow I realise how silly to think it

Hi op I think it's a nice idea for a thread. Obviously there will be snarky posts because chatting about bf fun is banned....

I ebf both my babies. I was a single parent with dd2. Bf was fecking hard work. I'm v proud of it though

Olivebrach · 25/04/2018 20:11

Yeah i hope that celebs being open about bfeeding encourages others too! Some others such as Sam Faires talk about it too!

I think people should consider extended bf more! I find it weird that as a society we may think its strange to bf a toddler or older baby with our own human milk.... but think its perfectly fine for them to drink another animals milk!

Are you still bf op? How old are is your lil one?

pallisers · 25/04/2018 20:14

breastfed 3 and no one ever made a comment to me - good or bad. My family just sort of presumed I would be b-feeding, as did friends etc.

Keepdlingwhatyourgutsays · 25/04/2018 20:14

Well done and on your own to. You must have been exhausted.
I forget about sam. And perfect for this Luisa zissman openly admits to hating it but they are best pals and she leaves sam alone to talk about it.
Yes mine was 18 months when I stopped. But I say if people like Tamara do it till four go for it.

I was clearly with the wrong crowd some of my friends were incredible though. They didn't care but some were just awful couldn't believe it.
But looking back now it was insecurities I had done nothing wrong. I'm just glad I stuck at it.

It’s funny because I fed everywhere you could think of in public and I was always braced for negative comments because of all the media stories etc. I had nothing but positives! From all kinds of people. I’ll never forget stopping in a busy Italian restaurant in Brighton at lunchtime in the pissing rain to feed. It was obvious I just wanted a chair and had no intention of ordering food. I ordered a cup of tea and a cake. And sat feeling akward and embarrassed whilst all the Male waiters raced around me. When I went to pay the waiter behind the counter just said ‘you’re feeding your baby have it on the house’. It was so lovely and kind of them and I realised my paranoia had made me uncomfortable. Most people either don’t give a toss or actually like to see people feeding.

Keepdlingwhatyourgutsays · 25/04/2018 20:17

Aww that's really sweet.
I had a chap in weatherspoons waiter and her did look for a while but then came straight over and said I'm really sorry I wasn't sure what you were doing. He was very lovely too

It was the lady on the coach that got me but she didn't seem a very nice lady.

It always surprises me when people say they've had negative comments about breastfeeding. I've breastfed three babies and never once received a negative comment when I've fed them in public.
