What do your 2-3 yr olds play with?

Dd is 2.4. She doesn’t really play with any toys, or certainly not for any length of time.

I’m thinking it might be time to buy her some new bits. And try and spark her interest a bit.

What is popular in your house?

DS has just turned two and he loves animals. We got a box full now ranging from farm animals, Jurassic animal and safari animals. He loves going threw them all and I make the noises associated to the animal. He also loves mega blocks and his wooden blocks.

MrsAukerman · 07/04/2018 20:59

DS is 3.4 and plays cars, trains and Lego (proper Lego). He also started recently with more imaginative play (using our small extension as an airplane, armchair is a fire engine etc etc). He does still often need an adult to play with.

Drumknott · 07/04/2018 20:59

Duplo, trains, balloons, die-cast cars, play-doh and whatever their siblings are playing with and doesn't want them to touch.

windchimesabotage · 07/04/2018 21:03

Ds is nearly 3 and mostly plays with a selection of die cast cars like matchbox cars. He also loves Brio wooden trains and duplo.
He does have a baby doll which he does take a bit of interest in now and again and likes to push round the garden in its pram. He also has a wooden kitchen and a toy washing machine and hoover which he loves. Loves making people tea and cake.
Also has lots of small cuddly toys like mice and a squirrel which he chats to.
Oh and he has one of those Tipi tents which was a big hit. He even has his nap in it and has filled it with his fave books and animals.

He has a dolls house as well but only plays with that if you play with him and encourage him.

Vintagegoth · 07/04/2018 21:03

Tea sets and toy food, Duplo and play doh always popular in our house. Play along with her to show her how it is done.

LadesC · 07/04/2018 21:04

Also her doll.....feeding her and nappy changing. Playdoh. Drs kit.

trilbydoll · 07/04/2018 21:06

DD2 is 3 in a couple of months and plays with her dolls and her kitchen. It's all real life stuff rather than imaginary small world play. She also likes dressing up.

Mellowingslowly · 07/04/2018 21:07

DS is 2.3 and mainly plays with duplo, toy bin lorries, play kitchen and imaginative play with soft animals (pretending to feed them or take them to the toilet). Any kind of toy cleaning equipment or anything he can use to mimic his parents is also a hit - cleaning his animals with a baby-wipe etc

MiniAlphaBravo · 07/04/2018 21:08

Peppa pig stuff
Dollies/pram/blankets etc
Play dough
Her kitchen/food/pots and pans
Art and drawing stuff/etch a sketch
Outside stuff now weather is improving like sandpit, ballpit, scooter, bike
Now she’s a bit older (3.3) she just plays make believe a lot of the time and doesn’t really always use toys for that, just talks to herself a lot! We did enjoy pretending to go shopping with a wooden till and small basket the other day though. Also just inherited some battery powered dinosaurs which she likes but they might be too scary for 2 yo, depends how brave they are!

DelurkingAJ · 07/04/2018 21:09

All things transport here (DS is 2)...Brio, cars of all shapes and sizes, Cozy Coupe. Loves the swing and slide in the garden too.

SweetMoon · 07/04/2018 21:10

At that age mine loved building bricks, cars and playmobil 123. We used to have just a few things available at a time and rotate the toys every couple of weeks because when all the toys were available they didn't seem interested in any of them. But if they hadn't seen a toy for a couple of weeks they suddenly tended to play with it. A couple of favourites (playmobil 123 and bricks) stayed available all the time though.

Igottastartthinkingbee · 07/04/2018 21:12

Dolls (with buggy, carry cot, bottles etc), little figures (happy land, trolls, peppy....), doctors kit, IKEA kitchen, jigsaws, play doh, marble run, picnic set..... all kinds really.

Igottastartthinkingbee · 07/04/2018 21:13

Oh and dressing up!! Anything from Spider-Man to Cinderella!!

TheVanguardSix · 07/04/2018 21:13

The LeapFrog picnic basket was a HUGE hit for DD when she was this age.
DD was never a great toy player, unlike DC1 who could play with his toys and everyone else's for hours on end.
But this made it easy for me to streamline DD's toy collection. Smaller and better.

So the picnic basket is one thing (leapfrog) and the LeapFrog My Discovery House as well is a great one.
Tomy Megasketcher (if she's showing an interest in drawing).
Vtech alphabet push and ride train (huge hit for DC3)- he will be 4 next month and I just sold it today on eBay. This is so much fun and great for learning the alphabet!

I highly recommend secondhand toys on eBay. You get great stuff at a bargain. This is also a great toy site: www.onehundredtoys.com/

NotUmbongoUnchained · 07/04/2018 21:14

Play doh, painting, drawing and her toy kitchen.

MissElizaBennett · 07/04/2018 21:23

Our 2.8 year old loves: books of any kind, Duplo, his wooden train set, die-cast cars, small model dinosaurs, jigsaws, board games (Smelly Wellies by Orchard Toys is the current favourite), play dough, paints, and (outside!) his watering can and sandpit.

He also spends ages in imaginary games where he is Peter Rabbit or a knight or dinosaur explorer or such like! I usually get cast as the villain of the piece...
