What do your 2-3 yr olds play with?

Dd is 2.4. She doesn’t really play with any toys, or certainly not for any length of time.

I’m thinking it might be time to buy her some new bits. And try and spark her interest a bit.

What is popular in your house?

Thanks for all the input. Seems like I’m not missing anything super obvious, as most of the things suggested dd does do a little.

I do play with her and try and show her, but she just wanders off after a few minutes to do something else (usually jumping on the sofa) or forcefully says tidy up time now, and starts packing away the e.g. tea set / bricks / duplo/ jigsaws.

She doesn’t have a train set, so have been thinking about that. But she never shows any interest in them at playgroups, so not sure it’s worth it.

We have an easel for DD and she loves it- paint, crayons etc- keeps her occupied. Her doll, toy kitchen and play doh are also firm favourites

Play dough
Cars + a ramp (or slide)
Little pushchair
Books
'Making' things in the toy kitchen
Dressing up in hats

He only does each thing for about 30 seconds at a time!

DS has just turned 2. Before his birthday he was completely uninterested in his toys I think having some new things has helped!

The leapfrog till is a big big hit, we can play shops with that for ages. Also likes happyland, peppa pig laptop and vtech steering wheel, and the toot toot garage is being played with a lot more. I got him a scuttle bug today which he loves!

As above though, all of these except for the till last for about a minute if we're lucky!

HippyChickMama · 07/04/2018 21:53

Happyland was a big hit with both of mine. Dd is 4.5 and has played with it for the last 3 years and still loves it now so it was definitely value for money!

A sand and water table was one of best ever toys. Still played with by both kids, got it when DS was 2, nearly 4 years ago.

2.2 year old.
Trains.
All day, everyday.
We have so many other toys but they don’t hold his interest for more than a few minutes.
I’m slowly losing the will to live...

Duplo, a plastic barn with animal figures, dinosaur figures, the younger Playmobil, cars and a car mat.

Not overly helpful OP but my niece is now 6 and has never really played with toys. She has everything you can think of, but nothing holds her attention for very long. She more enjoys reading & being creative such as drawing, colouring, making things. Some children just aren't overly in to toys I think. Buying her for Christmas & birthday is a nightmare & it's so hard to entertain her sometimes 🙈

Onions ! My DD had lots of toys but her favourite by far was an onion Grin

GirlGang89 · 08/04/2018 19:46

My daughter is 2.9 and her favourite toys are:

Playmobil
Sylvanian families
Animal figures and a toy barn I got for like £10 in smyths
Dolls

However... she would much rather ‘help me’ clean, Hoover and do other ‘adult’ things. A spray bottle with water and a dishcloth can keep her entertained for ages! Also watering the plants in the garden. She has a toy kitchen but doesn’t really play with her toy food but if I give her some dry pasta or rice she’ll play again for ages! X

Hi OP. My ds is 2y 3mo and is not really overly interested in anything.
He has a wooden kitchen, loads of happyland toys , lots of peppa toys, a crazy coupe car, an electric car, playdoh, craft stuff, toy musical instruments, puzzles and jigsaws
Honestly. .. all he ever wants to do is watch peppa or play hide and seek. He will play hide and seek with me and dh all day if we would let him! We limit peppa much to his annoyance.
We buy him toys as we feel we can't be buying him things that interest him but I just don't think he's really bothered yet .
He has a toot toot car set with police station, garage etc which only this weekend he's shown an interest in. He also has a wooden train table that he'll dip in and out of.
We have a large plank of sturdy mdf which he loves leaving against the sofa and rolling toys or balls up and down.
Also if we ever had a big cardboard box lying around he'll play with that for hours.
I get so jealous of friends who have children that love to play with their toys!

M son was 3 in Jan and loves his IKEA kitchen, duplo, play doh, puzzles, kinetic sand, loads of books, doctors set, wooden animals, IKEA mini circus tent, marble run, brio trains, wobbel board and Orchard Toys board ganes are a hit - cup cake game, Tummy Ache, the Pizza one.

graysor · 10/04/2018 19:56

Whytheheck my dd is exactly the same! Peppa and hide and seek will entertain her for ages. Toys, not so much.

She does like ‘helping’ sweeping, mopping, watering in the garden are all good. But she needs lots of input!
