Baby gros much better than clothes

Why do people dress newborn babies in 'proper clothes' My baby has been living in baby gros and at 3 months I plan to continue for some time. I will get some short rompers for the summer.

I was bought some outfits, but only worn once, trousers were tight and uncomfy- left elastic marks on baby and hes not particularly wide.

Babies nap quite a bit and have a ridiculous amount of nappy changes. Surely baby grows are much more practical and suitable.

I actually preferred vests and soft trousers and found them quicker and more practical for nappy changes.

Midnightpony · 07/04/2018 13:46

I agree. My baby is 6 months and we've just started to put him in comfy t-shirt and trousers/dungarees.

Everyone has their own opinion though...

Namechangemum100 · 07/04/2018 13:49

I agree and disagree...for my dd, she has always had very long legs, and would therefore grow out of baby Gros in record time, or they wouldn't fit properly. Therefore vest and leggings was much better for her.

Having said that, in hindsight I regret putting her in outfits so soon and wish I had embraced her "babyness" for as long as possible. I plan on keeping ds in baby Gros or rompers as long as I can (currently 40+6 and waiting patiently!)

Because by the time I had my second i’d had enough of doing up fucking poppers to last me a lifetime.

pastabest · 07/04/2018 13:58

I semi agree.

I had a very wriggly baby from the word go who hated nappy changes and from about 16 weeks onwards we had a fight trying to get legs back into babygrows and poppers buttoned up without a meltdown.

So although she didn't go into proper outfits/dresses/jeans etc she was wearing a vest, leggings and a top from reasonably early on as it was far easier to whip the leggings down, change the nappy and pull them back up again than trying to fasten a baby grow back up on a human octopus.

pimlicolife · 07/04/2018 14:08

I find a body suit and soft stretchy pull on trousers are much easier and comfy looking than baby gros.

Lekky12 · 07/04/2018 14:22

My DS2 is 18 months and until he started nursery at 1 he was in babygrows full time. Now he wears a short arm babygrow (or long arm if its chilly) and tracky bottoms. I dont like them wearing jeans or anything like that. They need to move around. He sleeps in a long arm long leg baby grow for bed.

rubyroot · 07/04/2018 14:28

Thought I was bad planning to have babygrows until 1. Now I know it has/can be done I think I might go for it :)

I totally agree! And when they are in real clothes their tops ride up every time you pick them and you have to readjust - soooo annoying!

chickywoo · 07/04/2018 14:33

Yes I agree baby gros , or soft pj type outfits, and just socks! No shoes needed until they can walk and definitely no headbands on bald babies Grin

Seahawk80 · 07/04/2018 14:49

I agree! They are so small for such a short time. I love babygros / best and leggings and they must be so much comfier. DS is 9 months and I've only recently starts to put him in the odd "outfit".

Sleeplikeasloth · 08/04/2018 15:41

I find babygrows a pain, and things like dresses much easier, especially in summer when you don't have to faff with tights. Much easier access to nappy, less faffing with poppers.

FusRoDah · 08/04/2018 15:46

I think I'd be more inclined to try different outfits if the weather were warmer, but as DS is a winter baby I find that with a vest and babygrow I know he's warm enough and nothing's going to ride up or come off wtf is it with baby socks. He's 12 weeks now and we've done dungarees but apart from that its babygrows all the way!

sleepingbaby1125 · 08/04/2018 15:50

Baby gros are fabulous, but only till they start cruising and/or walking. Then, unless they are very tight, it's easy for them to tread on the material and it stretches and trips them up. Also no good when they need proper shoes, so depending on how early they walk, age one may be pushing it!

halfwitpicker · 08/04/2018 15:55

Totally agree.

Baby jeans? Ridiculous.

Steeley113 · 08/04/2018 15:59

Coz my 3 day old little girl looks gorgeous in soft jersey dresses Grin

MuddyForestWalks · 08/04/2018 16:03

DS has a long fat body and wee short legs. His legs always got lost and tangled in babygros. He looked much more comfortable in a vest and soft joggers - the vest being a size up from the trousers.

OP your first post reads a little 'my way is the only right way'. You might get on better to realise that different approaches suit different families for different reasons. Apologies if I have taken what you said the wrong way.

NameChange30 · 08/04/2018 16:06

I’m with the majority. Poppers get so annoying so quickly. So I prefer vest and soft trousers. Plus it’s easier to get a decent fit (DS would often outgrow the legs before the rest of the babygro).

However, babygros with zips instead of poppers are a genius invention. We had a footless Maxomorra one that we used a LOT.

NeverTalksToStrangers · 08/04/2018 16:06

I dressed both of mine in soft baby clothes so that they would learn to distinguish between day clothes and night. Both great sleepers, so worked for me.

LadyCoulter · 08/04/2018 16:07

Yes muddy I have the same issue. By the time my first was 9 months and cruising it was dangerous for him to be in babygros even as pyjamas (I suppose I could have got him dressed the second he woke up but I definitely couldn’t be bothered).

bonzo77 · 08/04/2018 16:11

We did Baby grows till 1 for middle one. And to sleep in till 18m +. Only thing is the ones with feet squash their toes in a sling, and ones without ride up leaving lower legs bare. and Baby 3 was a Velcro Baby so he wore leggings more.

Rhodes2015again · 08/04/2018 16:18

My dd starts nursery part time next week.
She’s 9 months old. We had the taster sessions last week and even 6 month old babies were wearing jeans, full outfits etc.
My dd still wears sleep suits all day even now. So stupid but Feel like I’m sending her in her pjs when everyone else is dressed so I’ve caved and bought a few little casual outfits.

MonkeyPoke · 08/04/2018 16:24

Because people get sick to death of doing 7,000 poppers a day.

NameChange30 · 08/04/2018 16:29

@Never
“I dressed both of mine in soft baby clothes so that they would learn to distinguish between day clothes and night. Both great sleepers, so worked for me.”

Are you saying they were great sleepers because of your choice of nightwear?!

Hahahahahahaha

I wished I'd gone for more baby gros, I switched too late! (DS is huge and was wearing 9-12 mth at 4 months) But once I'd discovered that it was so much easier my DS did live in them for a while....most shops stop selling at 18-24.
