Wise mums: do I need this?

I'm finding it hard to figure out if this would be a sensible purchase or a waste of money. Tommee Tippee nappy bin. You have to buy 'replacement cassettes' for it, which are not at all cheap

I have three children and managed fine without one!

We have one and I love it (upstairs flat and we empty the bin as part of our nighttime routine each day) - we use swing bin liners rather than buy the cassettes and it still works!

We had one that we used only for poo nappies. We put the wet ones in a separate bin (that was cheaper, no cassettes). I did think it was handy for dirty nappies as otherwise they would stink terribly and you'd have to change your bin every day, which seemed a hassle and a waste. This time around I'm probably just planning to carry the dirty nappies downstairs and put them straight out in the outside bin which is just outside the back door (so literally just have to open the door and put them in, don't have to go outside). It was useful, but definitely more expensive than trying to figure out some other solution. Initially, you're going through 8-10 nappies a day, so it would fill up quickly if you use them for every one.

Is it for disposables or cloth?

Whichever it is you do not need it.

If you can access an outside bin with a shitty nappy easily, then there is no need.

I cannot, so this piece of kit is worth it for our home to not smell like baby shit.

It totally depends on your living situation. If you can easily put dirty nappies outside the door until you can get to the outside bin then no, probably not necessary. But if you're likely to end up with an indoor bin full of smelly nappies (like we did when we lived in an upstairs flat), they're really useful!

No, personally I found it crap both at home and at work in a nursery.

We used it with normal bin liners as a basic bin at work but just bagged and binned disposables at home.

I have one for my 2nd and they are good, they hide the smell and we empty ours every 3 days or so. I buy the cassettes on amazon and a pack of 3 lasts me about 6 weeks. That said with my 1st we just put the nappies straight into bags and into the outside bin. I suppose it depends on how organised you are.

I used to wrap disposables up in a tight parcel using the sticky tabs & use value nappy sacks. I never smelt a thing.

I think it depends on your housing situation; we live in a flat and the bins are outside the block so to take smelly nappies out a lot or bin bags (and they do massively smell out your bin) would be a massive pain/virtually impossible when DP is at work.
If you live in a house and don’t mind taking nappies or bin bags out a lot then it’s not so crucial.
We buy the replacement cassettes on deal and don’t go through them massively fast.

I love ours! We have one in our bedroom and one downstairs and empty them once a week. DS is almost 2 and we use them daily. You can get cheaper refills on amazon. Definitely saves trekking outside to our bins all the time.

Nope don't need it. Either straight into an outside bin or use nappy bags to seal it in, you get roughly 3 million bags for a pound in the poundshop.

Think about it: if you have a nappy bag and tie it tight shut why would you need it?

I have one for upstairs, we empty our downstairs bin daily so any changes downstairs goes in there but upstairs bin got smelly after a day of too (i have a sensitive sense of smell!) so I love mine keeps the smell locked in

I had one when I lived in a flat with DS1. We used to empty it every night and take it to the main bin in an outbuilding a short walk away.

Eventually it started to have smell that I couldn't seem to clean away.
Eventually I stopped using it as it was a bit grim. I just used a bag by the front door instead. I always used nappy bags to minimise the smell.
I never bothered getting one for DS2.

I have used the angel care one for both dd. I've just re ordered 3 cassettes for £12.99. I'm not sure how that compares with the one you have shown. Like others have said if you can get to your outside bin then I wouldn't bother, but if like me and you can't I would say they are well worth it.

We bought one. I never figured out how to use it and DH used it a handful of times.

Nappy bags much easier and if breastfeeding poo doesn't really smell for ages anyway, not sure about formula poo.

DDs nappies can now stink to high heaven but nappy bags, closed bin lids and normal bin emptying means no stinky house. Unless I'm just immune to the stench

It is only useful for the first 6m ish when the milky poo doesn't smell too bad, as soon as they are on solids it doesn't completely contain the smell and then when you open it to empty the escaping stench is vomit inducing!
If you decide to get one then go for second hand and then if you can get your mind you haven't really lost anything (mine cost £2 at an nct sale)
I used it for baby #1 but haven't bothered the 2nd time as I have to dispose of the gross toddler nappies anyways.

It's ok if you use it for pre -weaning nappies and empty it regularly, but with a couple of days worth of toddler nappies in it, it really stinks. Could be useful if you live in a flat, although you could still just bag up the nappies and put them in a normal bin with a tight fitting lid which would be cheaper.

No, I just use nappy bags and a normal lidded bin and it’s fine.

I've got one and never use it now. Unless you empty it every few days it starts to stink (we only put wee nappies in their, poo nappies go in the outside bin) - the smell of wee permeates through the plastic and it reeks - it just lingers for ages and I've had to zoflora the thing a few times to stop DS nursery stinking. I'd go with a good quality bin instead
