When did you realise you were getting older?

Discussing with a friend when I realised I was old apart from weeing when I cough I figured it was when I got excited about the next sale...for clothes for myself...I like to think of myself as a new look, river island topshop kind of lass but I’ve realised most of my current wardrobe is from next!! I’ve gone all mumsy!!!

Being mumsy and getting older are two different things!

I'm getting older but I've yet to resort to shopping in next...

I am on my 50's and still shop at River Island and Top Shop

I sat down tonight, after getting little one off to bed and realised I could hardly see the TV through mucky glasses. Remembered sitting on my mum's knee as a child and exclaiming, "Mummy, your glasses are so dirty!" And I now know why, and I feel like a real grown up - which apparently wasn't achieved by getting married, buying own home, having a baby! (Tongue in cheek) 🙂

Good lord not the crab 😂 I tried to learn ‘the helicopter’ some mad leg move with my DD at her dancing class...didn’t go down great!!!

When I realised 3 of my grandparents were born in the 19th century, and the appalled look on my DS’s face when I shared.

it’s not that I don’t love those shops!! But I find next of better quality and not so generically fashionable which makes it last more than the one season if that makes sense, I’ve always loved next for DD’s clothes but I breezily strolled through the women’s section before and now Im all over it!!!

If I have a rare lie-in I suffer with a sore back for most of the day, I can hear my knees popping and creaking when I walk up the stairs and sometimes I struggle to get up off the floor...I’m in my 30’s and generally fit and healthy

Recent conversation between myself and a 17 year old girl of my acquaintance, about another girl we both know (her age) but haven't seen lately ...

Me: Have you heard anything from lately?
Her: No, I haven't seen her for ages.
Me: Just that I saw on Facebook that she's selling her horse. I hope she's OK.
Her: (looking genuinely astonished) Facebook? Wow, do you know how to work a computer?

erm .... yes, actually ..... I'm not THAT ancient ..... (I'm 63)

I was as at playgroup with DS today and noticed a woman I recognised as the Mum of a girl I went to school with 20 (cough, 20- 30) odd years ago... I thought, “that’s weird, she’s barely aged”. I then realised it was the girl I went to school with! And that if she looks just like her Mum to me, I probably look just like mine to her too.

Talking to my toddler about cowboys and native americans, why they were fighting etc. He asked when it was and I realised it was when his nans nan was his age.
That is far to few generations for my liking.

Going to museums and seeing the toys and tech that I used to use as a child. I've also caught myself saying, "When I was your age..." at my dc when they start complaining about having to do some task or other.

My dd is learning about homes from the past at school and keeps asking if I used to put my iron on the range to warm it up or if I used to use a mangle to get the water out of my clothes - she thinks I'm ancient and I'm only 37!

As DD approaching her teenage years (not there yet but almost...) and getting more and more independent and logical and capable and opinionated when i am getting more and more forgetful and tired, I can't help but think my prime years might be nearly over.
Admittedly I am suffering from lack of vitamin D which causes foggy brain, forgetfulness, tiredness, aches and pains and many other old-age symptoms, so perhaps it's not that bad that I can easily top up my vit D supplies and feel springy again. Only hoping.

Today when I got unfeasibly excited about a very light dyson stick hoover thing I bought.

It was delivered to my neighbours and I almost cried when they brought it round! I made my pre teen sons 'have a go' to their bemusement.

menopause at 45, I was never the same again.

Working with a lad who was born in 1998. I mean seriously NINETEEN NINETY EIGHT. I was out drinking and having fun when this boy was born. Also in response to a joke about trading my injured partner in for a younger model and somebody suggesting the boy his response was "thanks, but I'm not THAT desperate" haha! Cripes. My self esteem took a hit that day

Not that I’m particularly old- but I realised I wasn’t young when sitting next to a bunch of early 20 year olds, who would not stop contouring, taking selfies and posting on Instagram!!!

Im not old by any measure but the day my niece tried to put me into the splits was a harsh reminder that your mid twenties is not an ideal time to take up flexibility!
