... just because we can't stop yammering on

yes that's the same with this bedtime, and lullabyes too... which works pretty well but means the whole affair takes ages and because dh doesn't know any lullabyes it's only me can put her to bed. bit of a flaw then, in that plan... however 8.30 seems to be a good time for us too.

I wondered about the whole holiday thing: people who've been on holiday, does it unsettle the baby? Sheila the dentist said in an offhand sort of a way that holidays were one of those adult indulgences, baby would really be happier at home. With the bedtime project up and running, and nights being so wakeful, I wondered...

kbaby · 19/07/2004 09:51

I'll have to try a later bed time. Shes just so grizzly in the evenings, we know shes tired as she falls asleep if you hold her.
I have a major achievement on the unputabledown baby. She will actually go down in the morning for a nap all on her own. I wait until she starts yawning and then i rock her so that shes drowsy and then put her in the moses basket with a lullaby playing and off to sleep she goes!!! She will only sleep for 45 mins though and then she wants to be held again. She will fall asleep again but wont be put back down. Each time I try she wakes, so its not worth trying again as then shes overtired. We were sent to the hospital on thursday as DD keeps choking. Theyve diagnosed mild reflux and she also has a heart murmur. WEve been given some medicine for the reflux and have appt for a heart scan in a few weeks.

I miss being pregnant, I see all these pregnant women and keep thinking how nice it all was.
Our DD is also trying to suck her thumb/fingers. She keeps missing her mouth though and ends up knocking her dummy out, this means most of the night im constantly poping it back in, even though im swaddling her shes managing to suck her hand through the sheet. How many of you are swaddling? my hv has told me not to do it due to overheating but it seems to be the only way dd can sleep. At least until she has more control over her arms. Im only swaddling her in a cotton sheet so I hope thats ok.
Were all a bit stressed here at the moment as dp has been told his job is being made redundant. Him and one other person have to apply for 1 position and if he doesnt get it he will get redundancy. Its not want we need at the moment esp as we were planning to get married next year and its unlikely hell get another job on a similar salary.
Sorry just had to go and pop a dummy back in and do sshhhhing..
I'm off now, we have baby group this afternoon. Its quite sad really but the highlight of my day has become deciding out of all the nice clothes what dd should wear each day

Egypt · 19/07/2004 10:43

kbaby, you are doing so well, seeing as your little one really wants to be held all the time. dd is tired right now. had a feed at 10am and is so grissly. she wants to be held too, but i'm being nasty and just putting her down in her bouncer whilst i write this. she is crying weakly. sometimes, she just gives up and goes to sleep. i wouldnt let her get herself worked up though...........like she is............now....

.......quick little finger in the mouth and her whole body relaxes - lets hope she goes to sleep now...it is SO nice and sunny outside! oh no, she's crying again,

anyway, i dont think its wrong to take your baby on holiday. dd didnt mind when we went to devon for the w/e. she had her moses basket, mummy, daddy, went to bed at same time, was just in a different room. i know what you mean about not wanting to upset the routine though. we are going to a party in norwich (where all my family are) in 2 weeks'time. i shall be staying there for the week, but the party doesnt start until 7. i want to take dd as it will be easy to show her off to the whole family, without having to do it individually over the week. maybe just stay and hour.

Hello all

Wahoo! 12 hours! 7.00pm until 7.00am Prufrock, like you, I also woke up every couple of hours convinced i'd missed DD crying. Thank god for the breathing monitor, it's been a total blessing- I feel so much more relaxed with it.
Linnett, i also have a braun ear thermometor, and i love it mainly because it is so easy to use, and causes minimal disturbance.
Kbaby, I'm sorry you're having such a tough time, i hope it all gets better soon. Like has been suggested before, do try an increase daytime feeds, i think it does make a differance.
Judd, I know it's hard and of course you're going to, but try not to worry too much. Both my stepsisters were born with holes in their hearts, it's never effected either of them in the slightest and I think in most cases they heal themselves.
Libb, I'll mail you about meeting this week? BTW I love that "all by myself moment" in Bridget Jones, I felt like doing that myself when dp first went back to work
Hope everyone else is okay

xx

That sounds nice Egypt...

Kbaby poor you, honey, with the dp job situation. Impeccable timing... does he work in IT? what sort of jobs market is there for him if he wants to look further afield? I'm SURE that by the time you get to wedding plans it will all be working out... don't let it get in the way. (how exciting too! what sort of wedding...?)

also well done on the U.P.D. baby thing. I have been mince in that respect, almost given up putting her down for morning nap. I got a Wilkinet carrier which allows back and front carrying (nod to Twig, queen of links, for instructions ) but it's quite disruptive to take her out of it once she's asleep. So she is asleep on me right now and all I can say is thank God for mumsnet or I'd just be rocking and humming like a mad woman.

But I really must try harder, you've given me hope... 45 minutes is all I want anyway!

Egypt · 19/07/2004 15:44

kbaby, so sorry, never commented on your lil ones hert murmur nor your dp . like someone has already said, they are quite common and shouldn't cause any problems whatsoever. as for dp, fingers crossed that its he that gets the job. thinking of you x

do tell us about the wedding

Egypt · 19/07/2004 15:47

oh well done cat!!

do u and prufrock have them in their own rooms? btw

prufrock · 19/07/2004 16:05

Well done cat - isn't it amazing how good you feel after 12 hours in bed?
egypt - yes my ds is in his own room - has been since he was two weeks. Before that, at hospital and at home, he slept on one side of a double bed, on top of the covers, with me on the other side, (and dh in the spare room). I found that a lot easier for the frequent feeds.

kbaby and Judd, hope all turns out OK with your babaies hearts. As others have said, it isn't necesarily a serious problem, so try not to worry too much (impossible I know)

cat82 · 19/07/2004 16:36

I did feel alot sunnier this morning prufrock, yes dd has been a bit of a grump all day though, she's loved her play mat for the last few weeks but today she cried whenever i left her on it, same with her bouncy chair. I'm wondering if she's just been more hungry because she went alot longer without food. Prufrock how has your ds been with naps after he slept through? Was he awake all day?
Egypt, yes dd is in her own room, has been almost from day one the room is almost right next door though, and she never seemed bothered we weren't there. Did anyone else do that btw? i keep getting gasps and dissaproving looks whenever i tell people that

prufrock · 19/07/2004 17:21

No he was fine wityh prfect GF naps. What I have noticed (we have now had 3 nights of 8-6.30 at least) is that he feeds hugely at 7:15pm, taking almost 45 minutes, wheras he ususally feeds for only 5-10. I think he's stocking up

And ds would have been in his own room from day 1 if I'd have been capable of walking their in the night

Just went along to GP's armed with full Mumsnet wisdom on Infanrix etc. - prepared to be a troublemaker, but they were cool about it. I have to run it by the GP herself but they will order in a batch from the ... wherever it is....

Took dd on front to the shows. Highland games were on in the next town... got there in time for the track cycling. Hee hee... four cyc.ists (2 codgers a podger and a local boy) going bumpily round a grass track to a commentary on crackly tannoy that went like this:

"And the cyclists have 4 more laps to go now...

[pause]

And the cyclists have 3 more laps to go now...

[pause]

And the cyclists have 2 more laps to go now..."

you get the picture.

dd not surprisingly fell asleep.

libb · 19/07/2004 17:56

Prufrock, DS tanks up too - making up for the daytime when he is having one of his "I don't need a nap, I don't want a nap and therefore I am never going to have a nap" moments. That said he slept from 8ish through to 5ish last night so cannot grumble, we then both dozed in a cuddle from 6 until 8 on in the sofa this morning.

Cat, DS is finally getting his jabs tomorrow but I will e-mail you to sort out meeting up - so glad you liked the photo, I have many unflattering ones kicking round ready to show the love of his life in later years. If anyone can tell me how to post jpeg files on here then you too can all share the joy that is DS in the bath

DS has also decided that he loves his muslin squares and will happily spend hours hiding under them or sucking them - a rod for my own back in a few years?

we have ntl, how do i post pics?

cat82 · 19/07/2004 21:12

Thank you

Erm i actualy have no idea, my dp is a computer developer and he did it for me. However he will tell me and i'll write!:
When you have NTL account you should have a homepage with some web space
You have to upload the pictures to your homepage with an FTP client or NTLs own software (which is best avoided)
Then just put a link in your MN message to the pictures on your homepage as described in the links and emoticons box
If you need more specific help in how to upload the pictures to your homepage then please mail me privatly, and my DP will endevour to help some more!
Hope this is okay

Egypt · 19/07/2004 21:20

oooer, might have to email u privately, with a step by step, 'click here, click there' instruction manual!

spots · 19/07/2004 21:37

I love everyone loving their babies! I love mine to bits today because she was doing silent delighted laughter on the nappy changing mat. Well I love her to bits anyway but it was extra good!

spots · 19/07/2004 21:41

Cat doesn't she look like you! how fab... thanks for posting 'em

GeorginaA · 19/07/2004 21:45

I am completely insane.

We went on a trip with ds1's nursery today - one hour each way on a coach with 30+ under 5s.

Never ever again.

I'm so jealous of all your well sleeping babes Although ds2 is going from the 10.30pm feed through to about 4am, which I think is fair going for his age & weight sends sleep longer vibes to her babe

Beautiful pictures cat - what a cutie!

kbaby sorry to hear about your troubles. Hope something comes up for DP.

As for the holiday thing - its all very well to say its a parental indulgence but not convinced that a week in a caravan with a 6 wk old and a 3 yo is that much of an indulgence. It did unsettle DD but DS enjoyed it and DD has settled back down.

I thought she was doing really well last night she slept from 7.45 to 4.20 but then unfortunately woke again at 5.45 and then DS up as usual at 7.

Egypt · 20/07/2004 09:44

your babies are sleeping well bozza and georgina. come over to egypt world where dd doesnt go to sleep until 9.45, wakes at 12, 2, 5, 7 AND doesnt settle back to sleep for 45 mins after each feed, THEN dh starts snoring.....grr

can u tell we had a good night?!

just consoling myself with the fact that she was born at the very END of may!
