Bozza - that scenario is EXACTLY why ds1 is not allowed upstairs while ds2 is asleep! Well... that and he's louder than a herd of heffalumps...

... I am such a mean mother

Same here - upstairs is out of bounds while DS sleeps! I'm glad its not just me

well, next episode of the sitcom - our perfect visitors have left with their perfect daughter, who is, after all, a normal child. she was a bit silly, not naughty, but just a normal 2 year old. i feel better! dd was an angel. went to bed without crying, abeit took a while to settle. she did her usual 4 wakes a night, but was lovely. today we took their daughter to the park and then to a pub for lunch and dd slept the whole time....still is asleep in the garden in her pram. bless. wonder if i should have a little nap.?

Egypt · 17/08/2004 16:51

here are the little angels!

prufrock - could well be that. she does have a distinct odour - something called 'eau'd havent had a bath for a week so covered myself in talcum powder to disguise it cologne'. either that or, dd likes to be sat up right and held upright, and her breasticles are soooo large they act as a recliner and dd has no choice but to lay back.

i'm so mean

Egypt · 17/08/2004 16:54

right, after all your sleep successes am combining the lot of your practices. dd shall sleep in a grobag, in her cot, in a long sleeved bodysuit tonight, with the fan on. i shall sleep all night long and wake feeling rejuvenated tomorrow morning. fresh as a daisy

someone talk to me?....................

GeorginaA · 17/08/2004 17:07

What cuties!!! Lovely picture - thanks for sharing!

I'm being a lazy cow at the moment - whacked Lion King on the telly, and both ds1 and ds2 are currently mezmerised... reckon I have approximately 5 minutes grace until one or other of them want interaction again.

Ds1 has "discovered" the f word. Completely innocently - he mispronounces suck with an f... unfortunately really clearly. I've tried to sit him down and explain that he's got the word wrong and he's not to use the other one, but all that I've achieved is him saying in a very loud voice every five minutes or so "Fuck is a rude word, isn't it Mummy?" SCREAM His great-grandmother is descending from upon high on Thursday ... graciously granting us with her presence to see ds2 (she's only ever seen ds1 once in the last 3 years!) - I just know ds1 is going to practise his newest vocabulary on her

The piccies are lovely and they both look like angels.

Well Sunday night was a fluke. I did everything the same last night but it went something like this;
Bed at 8, feed 10.30,1.20,4.00 and up at 6, the 4 feed it took 45 mins to settle her back down. In the end as she wasnt crying but doing lots of windmills with hands and grabbing her hair DP closed the bedroom door and turned the monitor down low and said ignore it and if she cries
then get up to see to her.

But shes been a angel today and as weve been out shes slept in her pram or just gazed about while sucking on piglett.

DPs off work until monday so were taking dd swimming and the zoo if the weathers ok and hopefully booking the wedding.

Judd · 17/08/2004 18:00

K Baby - I think some babies just do have a very strong reflex. DS wakes once a night and cries for about 2 minutes then resettles. Because its different times each night it doesn't seem to be a habit waking, I think its just "light sleep mexican wave!" DD was just the same but they will relax out of it - deffo. I never go in because I know he doesn't need feeding and therefore really don't think I can be of any help at all! I know he doesn't need feeding because I wake him at 7am and faff around with him until 7.30am before feeding and he never asks for milk before then.
Pah - all the time I spend cultivating a lovely long LTN for DS so I can have quality time with DD, she spends an HOUR on the potty cracking out a poo! We only potty trained her at the weekend so its all still very exciting for her but even so.........!
Spots - how is DD apres le jabs?

kbaby · 17/08/2004 18:10

I think im going to have to try and get her to settle herself. Hopefully the sans swaddle will help a bit otherwise not sure how to go about relearning her to fall asleep on her own.

Forgot to mention last message that had dd weighed and shes only gained 1oz. Hopefully next week will be better.

spots · 17/08/2004 20:36

what quality posts today... lol, Egypt and cologne, Georgina and fuck!! and cutie cutie babes to look at too. Kbaby my DD is still rubbish at nights, I'm just not going to talk about it any more, but don't despair you are not alone.

We've had a lovely day in our patch, the sun's been out and DD shows no longer term ill effects of jabbings after last night's screams (which may be unrelated) and a desire to cuddle parents at 4.50am (hey, we can deal with this). Went for a long wilkinet walk and got her weighed... 14lbs! And ate at friends' this evening. All very happy familyish.

Linnet · 17/08/2004 21:40

Hello all,

well, it's back to the old routine in the Linnet household. Dd1 went back to school today. I woke dd2 at 8am as she looked like she was going to sleep until 9am and I wanted to take dd1 to school and take dd2 with us to show her off. So she got up at 8am fed, we went to school came home she had a nap at 10am for an HOUR! longest nap yet. Fed again at 12 went back for another nap at 1pm for another HOUR! then went to get dd1 from school and she had another feed at 4pm then last feed at 7pm then went to bed at 8pm. Wow, I'm impressed. If she sticks to this routine then she'll fit in fine with the school run.

Booked dd1's birthday party today and she's taking the invitations in to school tomorrow and she's really excited about it.

Going to take dd2 to get weighed tomorrow as she hasn't been weighed for 2 weeks now. I'm guessing that she'll be nearly 14 lbs if her past weight gains are anything to go on. Will let you know tomorrow.

Because I managed to get both dd's in bed and asleep by 8pm tonight I did my exercise video, first time in, oh I can't remember. Feeling tired but good. I thought I'd find it really hard going seeing as I hadn't done it for a long while but it was ok so that was good.

Egypt the photo you posted is lovely, two little angels.
We were talking to dh's friend who lives in France today with our new web cam. Was showing him dd2 he said she was cute but don't think he was that interested, doesn't have any kids of his own yet. He was asking yet again when we're going to go out and visit him, won't be until next summer though we've ran out of holidays for this year.

Oh Georgina aren't kids just great when it comes to mispronounciations, lol

going to go now and have a quick look round the other threads then have a nice relaxing bath, in the hope that I don't seize up completely tomorrow, and bed, got to get back into the habit of early nights now that school is back.

spots · 17/08/2004 21:43

Linnet, early nights? I'll only believe it when I see it...

Linnet · 17/08/2004 22:10

Lol Spots, thanks
I do try to have early nights if it's a school night, otherwise I just can't get up in time and end up running around like a headless chicken. Many a time I've stayed up late and then woken up at 8.20am and we have to leave the house by 8.45am at the very latest to get to school on time. Aagghh
Now that I've got 2 babies I really need to try and be more organised.
As you can see I haven't gone for my bath yet still reading posts.

Egypt · 18/08/2004 08:27

morning all. yes the no swaddling and cot thing didnt work for us either. she was awake for nearly an hour at bedtime, then an hour later, then every 2 hours in the night. oh, what to do?????? you're not alone...spots, kbaby....

might stick with the grobag though and see how it goes as its so much easier, but did resort to swaddling at 5.30 this morning when she was having a half an hour conversation with herself. bless.. would leave her but can hear her, v annoying. naturally dh cant

glad the jabs went fine spots.

must be nice to have some time for dd2 linnet now dd1 is back at school. hope the school run routine remains.

weighing tomorrow. she was 12lb 15 oz and a half last week. on the 75th percentile line. now just out of size 2 nappies only one more size and its active fit, no more newborn

oh, wanted to ask you all. how long is your d awake after last nap until bedtime?

spots · 18/08/2004 09:19

by the way is anyone going to this mumsnet summer party? Not me obviously; at the wrong end of town for me.

And Bozza you did a meet up didn't you? was it fun?

Linnet · 18/08/2004 10:17

I should have mentioned last night that an early night for me is going to bed at midnight at the latest. Although if it's a school night I try to go to bed by 11.30pm, never works though there is always something I remember I have to do before bed.

The school routine worked great again this morning. Dd2 woke up at 7am had her bottle, dd1 always gets up herself around then anyway so we all got up and were organised and out of the house at 8.40am, brilliant didn't need to rush down the road to school. Just hope we can keep this up.

Going to take dd2 to get weighed this afternoon, the weather is horrible pouring with rain but needs must. We have to go into town anyway and the clinic is on the way there so might as well pop in.

kbaby · 18/08/2004 19:06

Linnett I dont know how you manage to stay awake that long. A late night for me is 11pm.
DD only weighs 11lb14oz she was 7.7 born.Shes on the 50th centile although dropped below it a bit this week.

Booked the wedding today were off to vegas march next year and then on to hawaii. Cant wait.

kbaby · 18/08/2004 19:09

Re the naps.
TBH were all over the place. Nap 1 hour after waking in the morning for 45 mins and then somewhere around 2ish and maybe a cat nap of 10-15 mins at 4-5. Because shell only nap on my lap she doesnt sleep for long as I get tired of sitting in one place or the phone rings which wakes her up.

7pm though and shes already in bed.. Thats a first

Egypt · 18/08/2004 19:54

is she asleep kbaby? have you gone back to swaddling? put dd in a grobag again tonight, she's just gone to bed but is winging a bit.. not enough to go in really, but i may just go and stick my finger in her mouth for a bit!

Linnet · 18/08/2004 22:59

Will this weather ever stop! Don't know what it's like down in England but up here it's been mad. It rained most of the day then stopped as dh and I were leaving to go into town with dd2. Got her weighed she's now 13lbs 2oz. HV said that her drooling is probably the start of teething.

Was watching the news and there was breaking news of another landslide. Not in the same place as before, first one was very close to where I stay. This one is nearer to Stirling and they had to rescue 57 people by helicopter.

Then I put dd1 to bed and came back through to the living room and hear this ominous rumble dh and I looked at each other and both said Thunder at the same time. Another rumble followed then dd1 came through and said she couldn't sleep because she kept hearing this rumbling sound. For the next hour we all sat in the dark watching this massive thunder storm. Loads of lightening, was actually 3 or 4 little storms as the lightening was pretty much constant. Scary stuff I'm terrified of thunder I was so glad that dh was here as I don't know how I would have coped on my own. It's gone North now thank goodness and hopefully it won't come back in the middle of the night. dd1 was quite impressed because the lightening was pink. Dd2 slept through the whole thing.

hoping for a better day weatherwise tomorrow.

Judd · 18/08/2004 23:07

horrible weather in the north wet too, Linnet!
Took dd and ds to park this afternoon. Heard faint thunder rumble whilst dd on slide and I was cuddling grumpy ds. DD announced she needed a wee - only cracked potty training at the weekend - so I had to grab potty one handed, sit her on it and then empty onto grass! All watched by goup of bored 14 year olds who were attempting smoking round the baby swings! Thunder really kicked off and I just chucked everyone and everything into pram and legged it!
DH has stayed overnight in Oxford so am feeling lonely too......thank goodness for MN!

spots · 19/08/2004 08:28

I am going to try and battle throught the storms to get to Bathgate where somebody has advertised a Mclaren Quest buggy second hand. Have decided a buggy is the next big thing for us, in part inspired by all your buggy chat here...DD so loves to sit up with support she ought to take to it better than pram rides... and I am starting to feel it's not alwys a good thing that she falls asleep so easily in the Wilkinet.

(am developing addiction to local classified paper).

Kbaby exciting plans! well done...what will you be wearing? something suitably Vegas-y I hope!

Egypt · 19/08/2004 10:05

weather ok here i'm afraid. can hear rumbles in the distance at times and odd freak downpours, but seems to be ok today. sounds horrific where you are linnet.

my poor mum and dad were up all night. they live in a reasonably quiet, trouble free area of norwich, but last night, mum woke to the smell of smoke. dad darted out of bed, thinking that my sister had gone out and left her straighteners on or something, but when looked out of the window, saw a neighbours' car on fire! called 999 and dashed out and rammed on their door - which was behind the parked car - and got them out....followed by the rest of the street! it turns out that some kids had put the re-cycling paper bin against the garage door and set fire to it. the fire brigade said that they had been called out a few times last night to the same thing. seems to be the in thing amongst the kids at the moment! couldn't you just hang some teenage boys by their balls? what tw*ts.

anyway, we had a good night. gave dd 5oz of ebm tonight b4 bed. she slept til 3.10 then 6.20 then 8.45! niiiiiiice. will be doing the same tonight

kbaby · 19/08/2004 20:35

well she slept until 9 and then I went to resettle her as she was screaming and there was no way she would drop back off herself. i picked her out of the cot and she fell straight back to sleep before I could sit down. egypt, we dont swaddle during the night anymore but if shes restless when we try and get her to sleep at 8ish then we'll swaddle her and then once shes been asleep for 1 hour we go and unswaddle her. we know shes in a deep sleep then so not being swaddled doesnt seem to make a difference. once I wake her at 10.30 for a feed i then put her grobag on. sometimes at 5am i am tempted to swaddle her if shes restless but dp just says to ignore and leave her.
Is it just my dd that never goes to sleep on her own in the cot. We always have to put her down asleep. Tonight I put her down and she woke up as I was faffing with the sheets so I left her there as she seemed happy gurgling away. I hoped she would fall asleep but no after a few minutes she starts crying and then we have to go and get her.

Me and Dp love thunder and used to watch it, however, last year we had a huge storm and we were in the bedroom window watching the lightening when a bolt hit the electric substation that was the other side of our garden fence. We both screamed thinking it had hit the washing line. Needless to say we have not watched it since.
Egypt hope tonight goes well for you, if it works again I need exact details of what you did.
I think trying to get dd to sleep through the night has become my hobby. Anyone with a baby I chat to my fisrt question is ' when did they start sleeping longer than 3 hrs at night' i lead a very sad live{smile]
