Does anyone know a 'yummy-mummy'? Are you one?

I don't think I know any. I know some young mums who are pretty and slim (but not hugely conscious of it or flaunting it). I know some older mummies who are not really yummy (inc myself in that group!) but have all the gadgets (don't include myself in that group). Maybe it's my postcode...

But what exactly IS a yummy mummy and where do they come from?

it wasdef bhs, they have the cleanest toilets in town

noddyholder · 03/04/2007 09:59

You need to still be gorgeous in spite of having had kids.Money has nothing to do with it

MrsDoolittle · 03/04/2007 10:00

That's what I meant noddyholder. You've put it more succinctly.

I disagree - I think yummymumminess is about the all round 'perfect' mother with 'perfect' children - not just about looks - but I do concede that you can't be one unless you have the looks bit sorted!

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 03/04/2007 10:04

Chocolateface, I have:

Hair that hasn't been cut in over a year
broken fingernails
shit clothes
an indescribable house (and NOT in a good way)
Can barely find time to go to the toilet, never mind the gym
Never look as though I am fully awake
Miserable and pessimistic (some would say GRUMPY)
Lunch at home with DD2 on whatever I find in the fridge
Have given up competing in the birthday parties stakes
The interior of my Ford Focus is of concern to environmental health

BUT

I do have a part-time job. It is crap, but at least you could say I'm on my way...

Bree Hodge on Desperate Housewives is a yummymummy

Soapbox · 03/04/2007 10:06

OMG! I went off to google for a definition of yummy mummy and found a whole website devoted to them here!

Soapbox · 03/04/2007 10:07

We had a discussion about Bree further down the thread - I don't think she is a yummy muumy as she hasn't got perfect children!

Or maybe like Tanya says- they were perfect when they were young but they REBELLED

ScottishThistle · 03/04/2007 10:07

I think a yummy mummy has to be pretty otherwise what exactly makes her yummy?

KickingEasterAngel · 03/04/2007 10:08

hmm, not sure i agree with karen from will & grace - drank too much & was supplanted by a younger model. i thought they had to have everything looking right & make it appear that they did it all themselves, even if they snuck in some help

KickingEasterAngel · 03/04/2007 10:09

and doesn't Bree maintain the appearance of the perfect life - children & husbeand & all, even though it's not, which is the neat trick that yms pull, and ehy she's so desperate?

MrsDoolittle · 03/04/2007 10:12

ScottishThistle - This is the point in hand. Depends on what you regard as pretty.
I think pretty mums are happy, confident mummies.
Over polished, try hards are NOT yummy.

IYSWIMN?

I was having a Brazilian before most people outside Latin America knew what it was .

My definition of a 'Yummy Mummy': Ana Ortiz, who plays Hilda on Ugly Betty.

She is gorgeous.

MrsDoolittle · 03/04/2007 10:16

Isn't that you expat??

MrsDoolittle · 03/04/2007 10:17

here ?

expatinscotland · 03/04/2007 10:18

I wish! I'd love to have her hair!

But I admit, I can run in heels like her and I wear nail polish and perfume and makeup.

I got lucky in that I am naturally thin, but I'm only 5ft., 4in. and walk most places, too.

ScottishThistle · 03/04/2007 10:20

Most of the yummy mummies I know have loads of help at home whether people know it or not, Nanny gets the children ready whilst Mummy spends an hour showering/straightening hair & putting on make up & when she comes down in a haze of Chanel the children are strapped into the 4x4!

I think I'm too Latina to be a 'yummy mummy' then, Scottish. I always thought they'd be blonde or fake blonde or some other derivative. The lifestyle seems very 'WAG'. Not my thing at all.

kiwinat · 03/04/2007 10:22

My DH calls me one, but I think he just wants to get into my pants

MrsDoolittle · 03/04/2007 10:32

I still think your a 'yummy mummy' though expat.
It's your attitude

MrsDoolittle · 03/04/2007 10:35

kiwinat - I have lost some weight recently (almost 2 stone) and dh said to me the other night as he watched me get into bed
"You know I really fancy you these days, a few months ago I thought those days were gone"

I was shocked!

"But I can say that to you now you've lost weight"

expatinscotland · 03/04/2007 10:42

Well, I don't blush in real life, though! Olive-skinned people don't tend to, though.

My lilly-white daughter does. It's adorable.

ScottishThistle · 03/04/2007 10:44

Expat Latina's can also be yummy mummies, I know a few!
