Does anyone know a 'yummy-mummy'? Are you one?

I don't think I know any. I know some young mums who are pretty and slim (but not hugely conscious of it or flaunting it). I know some older mummies who are not really yummy (inc myself in that group!) but have all the gadgets (don't include myself in that group). Maybe it's my postcode...

But what exactly IS a yummy mummy and where do they come from?

Oooh. I've got a padded gilet! Which I bought in Milan.

Interestingly the yummy mummies in Sydney's East (think Aussie Knightsbridge/Surrey) don't make their own birthday cakes. They get really expensive patisseries to make them. Unfortunately for DD's party I applied London rules and made one myself. The SHAME.

Would it be really, really norty to post some photos of the competitive yummy mummy birthday cakes at DD's last two birthday parties? These are not barbie stuffed into bowl shaped cake offerings ladies, oh no......

My DH tells me I am a yummy mummy!

  • though I can't quite understand how he has failed to notice the baggy belly, leaking boobs, foresty legs and lady garden, unbrushed hair, and the caverns under my eyes

I have a couple of yummy mummy friends.

I'm more of a Lynette/Susan cross!

chocolateface · 03/04/2007 08:52

A Yummy Mummy has great hair, nice nails, great clothes, immaculate house, finds time for the gym, never looks tired, is always happy and enthusiastic, has lunch with friends in resturants on a weekday, possibly has a part time job, throws fabulous birthday partys for her C's( but usually gets someone else to make the cake) and has a clean interior to her big posh car.

I've just realised I've spent the past 8 years trying to be one. Now I hate myself.
It's such an habit now, I won't be able to give up.

Oh, and ofcoure they wouldn't be on MN at 8.50am during the school holidays.

DH has just assured me I am one, but I just think he wanted to get off to work without an argument.

Even though I hate the term, always presumed a was a MILF!

BethBoo · 03/04/2007 08:56

Does it require a lot of effort to be a Yummy Mummy? How about a MILF? Could it be done on a part time basis? Its nearly 9am and I'm still in my dressing gown and no make-up
I think that I'll start off being a Slummy Mummy and work my way up today!

chocolateface · 03/04/2007 08:59

If you are a genuine Yummy Mummy, it takes no effort at all.

Leoness · 03/04/2007 09:01

I think MILF is an horrid acronym

I live next door to Yummy Mummy...sickening

Leoness · 03/04/2007 09:03

My dp says MILF is a porn term!!

  • How does he know ?

ScottishThistle · 03/04/2007 09:41

My Mother would have been known as a MILF, not much fun when your the 17yr old daughter I can assure you...I'd rather have a yummy mummy!

noddyholder · 03/04/2007 09:43

My next door neighbour is one outside the house inside she is a screaming banshee.Whereas I am the other way round

Soapbox · 03/04/2007 09:45

But isn't the term 'a yummymummy' a derisory one - I can't see why one would be clamouring to be one.

In the article by Tanya Byron yesterday she said "As much as I find the tanned, toned yummy-mummy brigade insipid and shallow, I also find their well-behaved, precocious little offspring deeply uninteresting."

Surely that isn;t how people would want to be seen?

GameGirly · 03/04/2007 09:53

So, do you have to be wadded to be a Yummy Mummy?

Soapbox · 03/04/2007 09:56

I think you certainly need to have a fair bit of spare cash to pay for the lunches, manicures, pedicures, tanning, out of this world birthday parties for the DCs, fab holidays, big car, nice house etc

Leoness · 03/04/2007 09:57

and a bit OCD!!

Personally I don't think yummy mummy si anything to do with class or looks.

It's State of mind. Honestly.

The unfortunate fact is, the confidence and 'airyness' that goes with that countenance is often down to financial security.

I bet expat is a 'yummy mummy'. Because she doesn't understand all this class issue stuff she doesn't care, although she cares about how she looks (I remember the brazilian thread). And I always get the impression she is pretty self-assured.
Am I right?

Soapbox · 03/04/2007 09:59

Oh and I forgot the gym membership - you can't be a fully paid up yummymummy without spending hours at the gym.

I suspect you need a nanny too if you have younger (non-school age children) too difficult to fit it all in otherwise!

IME - SW London is full of yummymummies.
