When did you stop breastfeeding?

My twins are nearly 11 months and although I absolutely love breastfeeding them I know it needs to stop sometime so just wondering when would be the best time ?

I stopped both both dd1 and dd2 when they turned one. Within a couple of days of stopping they both finally slept through the night!

I breastfed my DS for about 2.5 yrs. from about 18 months, that was 1 or 2 feeds per day - usually first thing in the morning and bedtime. It was amazingly helpful when DS got sick - about the only thing that offered him comfort.

I never felt breastfeeding made my life tricky or awkward and enjoyed it. ''Tis entirely up to you when you stop. I didn't have twins, but can imagine it's pretty full on.

I stopped at 4 months with ds, he had a mega tongue tie but no one would snip it because "it won't cause a problem". My milk dried up and he was losing weight.
With dd1 she was a boobs addict and I fed her until 27 months when I'd had enough and stopped her cold turkey.
Dd2 was a food addict from the second she started eating and her interest in breastfeeding got less and less until she weaned herself at 15 months.

Stopping breast feeding is a personal choice and you can do it whenever you feel ready.

I stopped at 2yrs 9m due to TTC #2 whereas my friend stopped at the same point purely because she'd had enough.

There's no 'right' age to stop and no 'right' reason to stop so just stop whenever you feel you're ready too.

This is an impossible question to answer, it depends on you and your babies! Theoretically, you can go on as long as you like (though night feeds after 12 months are a risk factor for tooth decay). Stopping is easiest when both you and your LO are ready, only you know when that is! I bf DS 1 for 15 months and stopped because he wasn't interested any more. I just stopped offering his only feed, which was before bed, and that was it, he never looked back.

DC was 4years 2 months when she self-weaned. It's entirely up to you and/or your child when you stop

I'm still going at almost 2 and can't see us stopping anytime soon. It doesn't have to stop until your ready. WHO and nhs advice is until age 2 and beyond and there's actually a lot of us feeding last 6/12 months.

I stopped over the summer. DD was 2.4. She would have kept going but I pushed weaning as her appetite for food was poor and it was starting to really wear me down being constantly asked for milk.

With DS (first baby) I stopped just before his 2nd birthday. Mainly because I was pg and it was getting uncomfortable. By 18 months he was mostly just having one feed a day in the morning. I was back at work pt when he was 11 months and it was a nice way to reconnect after being at work.

With DD I wasn't back at work so carried on feeding on demand for much longer. We eventually stopped by mutual agreement on her 4th birthday. She mentions it fondly sometimes now (she's 8)

A friend has only just stopped (although it was very occasional by this point). Her child is 6.5yrs old.

I stopped DD1 at 14 months because I had had enough and we hoped it might encourage her to eat. (It didn't, but it was because of multiple allergies) With DD1, I stopped at 9 months. She was eating fine, but I also had to have a serious operation and had to have stopped breast feeding before that.

At 12 months (moved onto cows milk) and 14 months (never drank any milk again as hated it all).

Btw scrumptious, night feeding and tooth decay is a myth - there is no evidence to suggest that night feeding causes tooth decay

At 3.5 here. It was the right time for us.

Six months on the dot - DS got teeth! Enjoyed the convenience of feeding but was v glad to get my body back.

Still bf my 13m old, I'd actually quite like to stop but she won't drink cows milk and it stresses me out that she won't be getting enough calcium.

Mine all chose to stop feeding at around 10 months. I wd have liked to have gone on for a few months more, but my milk was no longer appealing to anyone. 😄

14 months for both children. DD moved onto cows' milk, DS didn't touch milk again until he started nursery at 2.5years.

My DS is 9 months now and it appears he has stopped breastfeeding. He has a bad cold and last breastfed on Sunday. He has refused the breast. In a way I am relieved cos I didn't know how to stop. My DD stopped at 3.5. She just told me one day that the milk tasted yucky and no longer wanted it.

I stopped when my daughter turned 2. I had got pregnant and it was painful and I wanted to take sickness meds that weren't recommended when feeding.

My eldest stopped when he was 4 1/2. My youngest is 2 1/2 and still going strong. Years that is.

Ds is 17 months old and has one bf a day in the morning, when we wake up. The last few days he's only bf for a few minutes so think we are close to stopping.
