My twins are nearly 11 months and although I absolutely love breastfeeding them I know it needs to stop sometime so just wondering when would be the best time ?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

16 months and counting

BakeOffBiscuits · 29/12/2016 19:29

I don't think there is a best time- it's when you feel like stopping.

I stopped with dd2 at 14 months as it just felt right. Dd1, I only managed to feed for 3 weeks as I had terrible advice from midwives (this was 26 years ago).

DD until she was about 21/2 - by default. She wouldn't take from a bottle from day one. Think it was more for comfort later on down the line.

Nearly four, when he (gradually, accidentally, not without some discussion) self weaned. It was the perfect ending for us.

Oh if you're all still enjoying it just keep going!!

I stopped at 9months day time and 12months night time for DC1 and 13months for DC2. But only because they were fidgeting and nibbling!!

Schmoochypoos · 29/12/2016 20:07

DS1 7 months
DS2 14 months, I was ready to stop. He didn't seem to mind, he is so easily distracted by his big brother and I was only down to a feed at bedtime by that point. So he just had a cup of cows milk like his brother. He slept through the very next day!!

It's really up to you. it's a personal choice. (I didn't breastfeed at all, so can't really help). But people I know who did all said they stopped when they felt like they wanted to

Scotinoz · 29/12/2016 20:54

Up to you really. I stopped feeding DD1 at 10 months (she was a bugger to feed), and DD2 at 18 months (she was lovely to feed).

Well done for breastfeeding twins!!! That must be so full on, can't imagine his tricky it must be. I stopped breastfeeding my ds at 16 months, he more or less weAned himself off. I would of carried on for longer if he wanted to. The amount of people that use to keep asking 'when am i going to stop breast feeding' and 'why am I still doing it' Angry Stop when you feel ready to x

AmberEars · 29/12/2016 21:42

I stopped at 12.5 months with DC1 - I loved breastfeeding but I just felt I'd reached the end of the road with it. Also we were TTC again (although I know some people carry on while pregnant).

DC2 stopped at 11m - she weaned herself off.

With DC3 I stopped at 8m in an (unsuccessful) attempt to get him to sleep better.

FreeButtonBee · 29/12/2016 21:53

With my twins, I stopped at almost 1yo exactly. I was going back to work and thought it would be easier. Second time round (single baby that time!), I kept going when I went back to work and actually it was much easier. I stopped at 14mo so not much longer as my milk supply dramatically dropped ice I was out for 11 hours a day and it was starting g to be a wrestling match rather than comforting/ enjoyable! But I am glad I did keep it up for a bit longer as it made the transition between me coming home from work a lot easier.

pointythings · 29/12/2016 22:53

I did 13 months with both DDs and wish I had gone on for longer and tandem fed when PG with DD2. I found breastfeeding really easy, had tons of milk and could have gone on with a morning and bedtime feed quite happily until much older.

blinkineckmum · 29/12/2016 23:25

12 months with the switch to cows milk both times. Made easier as I was at work so they were used to one bottle a day from 8 months. I also loved breastfeeding, but felt much stronger once I stopped.
