how often do you bathe a newborn?

No idea! and do you use any products? when do you start using baby soap etc? and which ones do you recommend? Thanks!

I didn't bathe mine for quite a few weeks and even then only with warm water. I just topped and tailed them really. Unless they needed sponging down.

We only did once a week for ages (though did top and tail). DD hated the bath when she was very young. Just used warm water, as it's all they need.

Since then, we have been using Oilatum bath, as she has eczema. It cleans the skin well, even greasy food residue, and doesn't dry the skin at all. I noticed that Aveeno have brought a more natural version out, which I might try next time. I would avoid bubbles and detergents, as their skin is so delicate and you just don't need them.

Just wipe downs until the belly button heals, then 2-3 times a week just in water. I dont start using soap until they start smearing their dinner all over themselves - when just water doesn't get them clean!

I've always bathed babies daily as part of bed time routine but never uses any products as they're usually too harsh.

Didn't use any products for first year unless they'd got very messy with BLW.

After that only gentle cleaners like Greenbaby, weleda etc. No Johnsons baby stuff.

I had to bathe mine quite a lot as they were both very sicky babies. Warm water is fine, you can put a little baby product in if you wish though. It will tell you if it's suitable for newborns. We used johnsons top to toe wash mainly.

And bathed a couple of times a week max. Still the same now (aged 8 and 6).

We used oilatum sorry for DS up to about 18 months as he had sensitive skin and allergies.

DS was bathed daily from pretty much day one, purely because he loved it.

DD is 11 weeks and we don't bathe her much because she hates it and screams.

So long as you keep them clean by topping and tailing it's fine.

About once a week. He loves the bath. Probably more often when we're in a routine at night.

Every second day here- in the sink with a squirt of Johnson's baby wash in the water and that's all.

In fact it's the exact same for my 2 year old (though she goes in a foldable bath now as too big for the sink).

They had their first bath on day 13 in scbu. From then on we bathed them once a week with just water until they were about 16 months. From 16 months we used Burts Bees products.

Mine had a first bath around 5 weeks, just washed with a flannel before then. No products until they were eating lots of food, about 10 months, then needed a dot of shampoo. Ds was a totally anti-routine baby, dd fit reasonably well into one but baths weren't part of it.

For the first couple of weeks we bathed him once a week and didn't use any soap etc. However, he loves the bath and is so smiley when we put him in it, so we now bathe him once a day with baby soap and have a good splash about.

We have a bath insert and often DH or myself get in with him. Honestly, there has never been a baby more at home in water!

The weleda stuff, or earth friendly baby, or Burt's bees stuff are all lovely. And you can normally stock up when they're on offer.

We had no gizmos. The kids came in the bath with one of us from quite tiny.

I bathed ds about 3 times in the first month. He hated it. Then I got an angelcare bath seat which transformed bath time.

Started pretty much daily baths at around 6 months as part of bedtime. He enjoys a bath and it gives us something to do fir 20 minutes!

No products to begin with, then oilatum on his cradle cap.

Still used oilatum for dirty bits, aveeno cream on the rest of him due to excema

Baby baths are quite divisive - lots of people find them completely pointless but I love ours and wouldn't be without it. We have a Tippitoes mini bath and stand so no bending over the bath (I have a bad back) and DS (12 weeks old) loves it.

I bathed my 11-day-old for the second time tonight. We'll probably bath her once or twice a week until she starts solids. We just use warm water in a Tippitoes mini bath (we didn't use a baby bath for DD1 but bought one for DD2 so that DD1 could help out).

DD1 is nearly 3 and has a bath every night apart from swimming days. She gets her hair washed every 2-3 nights.

I thought daily baths weren't recommended for excema sufferers?
