How old was your toddler when potty trained??

My dd1 is 2y 8 months and just doesn't want to know. I've tried everything I can think of. Will happily sit on potty with a nappy/ trousers on and the same in the toilet but has no interest when the nappy comes off.
She knows exactly what to do, we've watched videos, she sits her baby dolly on the potty and pretend she's done a wee and wipes her, tells her well done so she knows but I just can't get her to do it.
Shall I just wait until she's ready, just getting worried as she's nearly 3 and we are still no closer to cracking it

Dd was 3 years and 4 months

We waited until the summer holidays so she could go bare bum

She cracked it on day 3 and we haven't had an accident since

Don't rush it because you feel you have to. It's ok to wait

FemaleDilbert · 27/09/2016 20:42

What happens if you let her go with pants and no nappy for a few hours?

RiverTam · 27/09/2016 20:44

3, pretty much bang on. 3 separate attempts, each lasting a week, from 2.6.

Mine were between 3 and 3.4, almost everyone I know seemed to do it at a similar time. If you have tried and it's not happened, just leave it for a bit. It's fine.

Jackiebrambles · 27/09/2016 20:44

Ds was almost 3, a few weeks before his birthday.

It took 3 days. I didn't know whether he was ready but he needed to be trained for pre school so I went for it.

My advice is leave it for now. No rush!

missyB1 · 27/09/2016 20:46

Ds was 2 years 4 months, I followed Gina Ford potty training in a week, it worked well for us.

AppleMagic · 27/09/2016 20:46

Dd was out of nappies cold turkey at 2.5. By 3.5 she stopped having multiple daily accidents. I would not recommend my approach!

BackforGood · 27/09/2016 20:50

Daytime - 2 for ds, then about 2yr 3m for dd1 (different CMer), then 2 for dd2

catkind · 27/09/2016 20:51

First one was a battle at 3.3. Would not have said he was ready, but he developed some horrible nappy habits so training was lesser of two evils.
Second was easy at 2.3, and probably would have been earlier if we'd had the nerve to try.
Will she sit on potty without nappy at all? If not can she say why not?

Wigglinandgigglin · 27/09/2016 21:13

3 when he was reliably trained during the day. He'd had a few hit and miss months. Not dry at night yet at 3.5, but he's getting there.

NapQueen · 27/09/2016 21:16

Dd potty trained at 2y5m (ds was due and I wanted it done by then), however she is 5 soon and still pees in her sleep.
DS is 2 next month and he is dry at night and nap times but still not capable of knowing when he is about to go in the daytime.

Louisa111 · 27/09/2016 21:26

Thanx guys, if I take nappy off she will either scream until i put one on or she will have an accident and get all upset, no matter how much I reassure her. Have tried pull-ups and even just normal knickers but again if she has an accident she gets upset...I'll just relax about it for now

We waited till ds1 was 3yr 3m. Don't rush it. I have friends who tried a few times and their DC still have loads of accidents. I would wait a few months then try again. Ds1 was definitely ready, completely dry in a weekend

AdmiralData · 27/09/2016 21:29

3.6 and still no joy. His poos surprise him! Got two weeks coming up to try a new potty and having a ceremonial goodbye to pull ups. Good luck Op :)

IMurderedStampyLongnose · 27/09/2016 21:34

Mine was 3.3.not one bit interested u gil then and once he was he was trained overnight,he did it himself really.worry not, stick a nappy back on and try again later.

isthistoonosy · 27/09/2016 21:36

DS was almost 3yrs. We tried at two and he understood what the potty was for but it was too early for him.

DD is 20 months and just showing an interest but its mostly just poos and nothing at nursery yet, so we'll see how it goes.

Nongoddess · 27/09/2016 21:39

Yes, I'd echo the don't rush comments! I was so worried as we approached 3, got past 3, everyone else seemed to be doing it no trouble and we were way off... just as you said OP, my DS definitely knew what it was about but didn't want to try. But I just kept asking if he wanted to wear his big boy pants, and one day (about 3.4) he said yes and that was that, like SweetPea says. I was SO anxious about it but seriously, it will just happen I'm sure. Seems like such a big deal as they get to 3, doesn't it! Good luck OP and AdmiralData!

WhispersOfWickedness · 27/09/2016 21:48

I had one who was 3.1 and one who was 20 months, so believe me when I tell you that they all do it when they are ready, do not let anyone judge you for not 'trying hard enough' to train them Angry

Offyougo · 27/09/2016 21:51

Mine were 2.3 , 18 months and 2.5 . The earlier the better for me, went cold turkey ( at home initially),no nappies and they will learn after a few accidents. Op, if ur child get uncomfortable having an accident, great!dont go back to nappy, just change her. She will learn soon enough.

Lifeisshort123 · 27/09/2016 21:52

DS1- 23 months
DD1- 2 years 3 months
DS2-7 years old (has special needs)
DS3- 2 years 9 months
DD2- 2 years 4 months

SaggyNaggy · 27/09/2016 21:52

We tried at 2, failed
Tried at 2y 6m, failed
Tried at 3, failed
Were now trying at 3y 5m because she started school and shes took to it brilliantly.
Since starting school (foundation unit) she's now only wearing pull ups at night, pants e rest of the time.

If we ever have another, we'll avoid the stress and just wait till 3years 5months. Grin

JammyDodger16 · 27/09/2016 21:53

3 years 2 months... Wouldn't do it until she waved to, couldn't make her and she just did it herself in the end and was dry at night within 2 weeks too

5minutestobed · 27/09/2016 21:55

3 years 3 months. Done in a few days. Just leave it for now OP. Its not worth the stress if they're not ready!

DramaAlpaca · 27/09/2016 21:58

My boys were all trained between 2.2 and 2.6 years.

This was around 20 years ago, we tended to toilet train earlier back then.

The youngest was trained easily in three days, it took longer with the older two.

elliejjtiny · 27/09/2016 21:59

DS1 - 4y
DS2 - 4y 1m
DS3 - 3y 10m

DS4 and DS5 are 3y 3m and 2y 3m and both wearing nappies. I'm all in favour of waiting. I tried to train DS1 at 3y 6m because the hv told me I should and it was hell. He wasn't ready and had daily multiple accidents. With DS2 and DS3 I waited and they were dry in a week.
