Seems to be a few OU students here, so what are you all sudying? Are you new to it or been doing it for years?

I am on the verge of signing up for Introducing Environment (Y161) a short 10 pt course, I will have to double check the finances though.

I have also started doing one of the free units on Openlearn to get me into the swing of it and I was surprised how much I am enjoying getting the grey matter thinking again.

Hello Mumoftwoangels - I'm doing A200 too. How are you finding it?

Chilimama · 05/06/2007 01:43

Hi Scotsgirl...You're not alone!

I am also trying to get to grips with tma06 for DD100

Have finally got the time to sit down and go through my "notes" which resemble the ramblings of a mad woman!

Still we will get there in the end and it is only 30% needed to pass this one

I am so glad we are almost at the end, I have enjoyed the course but have found it hard work to study two courses at the same time (U205 as well) with tmas due in a week apart - especially during half term!

Good luck!

Btw - any thoughts on your next course?

mumoftwoangels · 05/06/2007 13:26

Rosaluxembourg, its going a bit slow!!! I'm not enjoying as much as i did A207 last year. But my marks aren't too bad at the moment although i am up to my neck in it at the moment!

All the subjects seem a bit rushed!

What about you?

I feel the same as you. I would like to have longer to spend on each unit - it feels like you have to move on before you really get to grips with anything, and there is no time for extra reading around the topics. I loved Block 3 but feel I rushed it - would love to do a whole course in it. It is my first course though so I am still getting used to how it all works.
I am pleased with my last couple of marks though - both 80% - as I feel I need to build up a good score before the exam brings me down. One of the drawbacks of it being a new course obviously is the lack of past papers - I wish I knew what to expect.

mumoftwoangels · 05/06/2007 14:28

I have had a message from my tutor saying there is a speciment paper on the course website, but i have not had chance to look!

This is my third course and my least favourite. I may try a level 3 next year if i survive this!

scotsgirl · 05/06/2007 14:29

Hi Yorkpud and chili,
Good to hear that I'm not the only one trying to make sense of a mess of thoughts. Don't know why this TMA seems so much harder than the others. Started off trying to do Q.1 but gave up and switched to Q2 - seems easier to construct an argument around. Am getting to the point of not censoring what I write anymore, get something (anything) down on paper and sending it off before I can change my mind. Am so sick of this TMA, which is a shame, because I've enjoyed the rest of the course. What r u both doing next? I'm moving onto Exploring Psychology.

RosaLuxembourg · 05/06/2007 14:44

mumoftwoangels what courses have you done already? I need to do another level two course and would love some feedback on some of the other options.

Chilimama · 05/06/2007 14:48

Hi Yorkshirepud and Scotsgirl!

Well I am getting there, started doing question 2 and then decided on question 1. Glad I have as since then I have gotten over my writers block - although I am not sure if I am writing about what I should

I have found plenty in the intro block and 1,3 and 5 that should be relevant, now I just need to learn how to debate

Hoping to finish tonight, in the early hours no doubt, and get it posted tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

I am currently doing U205 Health and Disease as well (ending in October) next up is L194 Portales: Beginners Spanish (Nov 07) and then U213 International Development(Feb 08). I am aiming for a BA(hons)International studies.

Good luck to both of you, give me a shout if you want to have a chat/moan/rant

mumoftwoangels · 05/06/2007 15:54

I did A207 From Enlightenment to Romanticism 1750 - 1830. It was put in easy to follow chunks. I really enjoyed this and there was enough to really get your teeth into. A nice mix of poetry/ paintings/philosophy etc.

I didn't plan on doing two courses at the same time for my first year but this was the last presentation of U205 and I really wanted to do it, despite having 3 kids to look after including 2 yr old and a 1 yr old girls - luckily I have a very helpful dh!

Anyway I have just finshed TMA06 so fingers crossed it will be ok!

Good luck to you

niceglasses · 06/06/2007 07:37

I have an exam for A210 - Approaching Literature on Monday!!! All TMAs finished, but bit nervous about exam. 3 kids doesn't allow a lot of time for revision.

Have really really enjoyed it though. Fantastic stuff, esp the Romantic poets who always wanted to study.

Got 19th Century novel lined up for Sept but will have to pass this exam first....................

scotsgirl · 06/06/2007 09:11

Well done for finishing Chilimama,

I was really wanting to finish yesterday, but didn't quite get there, so today's the day! I've given myself a deadline of 3pm, and if I don't make it, dh is going to cook me tripe and onions for tea...

Yorkshire Pud - yes, October for Exploring Psych. Can't wait to have the summer off.

Am going to switch MN off now - will check in again after 3pm.

MarsLady · 06/06/2007 09:21

Hey niceglasses... I'm going to do 19th Century Novel next year as well Cool, an MN study buddy!

niceglasses · 06/06/2007 09:37

Oh great - I haven't done a level 3 course before, so am a bit worried about the kind of level/weight of work. I have found this level 2 one really interesting but it has tested the limits of fitting study in around 3 kids.......

RosaLuxembourg · 06/06/2007 10:10

Mumoftwoangels - I have downloaded the specimen paper and it looks much less scary than I feared. It has really good notes on how to approach the questions.

I was wondering about doing the Englightenment to Romanticism course too - it starts in September though so I will have to start it while still revising for the 1400-1900 exam - but I think I might do it. Otherwise there is this huge gap in my life until February when I can start another course!

scotsgirl · 06/06/2007 17:40

Yeah, I don't need to eat tripe and onions - I finished the last TMA!

How's it going yorkshire pudding?

Yorkshire pudding,

Yes, releived although slightly anxious - not sure how good it is . Oh well, it only needs to be 30%.

Good luck with finishing up. Hope it's not too difficult.

Molesworth · 07/06/2007 15:47

Good luck on Monday niceglasses - is yours in the morning too?

Scotsgirl and Yorkshirepudding - Well done both of you on finishing - It's a huge relief isn't it!

And like we have already said we only need 30% to pass ]

Hope you both have a relaxing weekend!

scotsgirl · 08/06/2007 15:21

Cheers Chilimama,

It's lovely to have support. Well done yorkshire pudding. Have a great weekend. You deserve it.

Feels really strange now to not have any work to do. Guess I'll just have to catch up on all the chores I've been neglecting for the last 9 months - , decorating, hubbies' accounts, clearing all the crap off my computer. Or maybe I'll just procrastinate for a wee bit longer.
