Weirdest reason for a toddler tantrum?

My dd who's almost 2 has started crying and having a melt down every time I throw her dirty nappy in the bin ..I'm at a loss to understand the weird nappy related attachment she seems to have developed over the last few days?
Anyone else's little ones have an odd reason for a tantrum?

Oh lord, what HASN'T caused a meltdown round here. We have had full on tears and snot and throwing oneself on the floor because:

  • Daddy put the ironing board away
  • I wouldn't let her play with knives
  • The balloon she purposely burst has burst
  • The crisp she threw on the floor is now on the floor
  • The bath she wanted is ready
  • Sometimes, other people eat
  • Daddy took her shoes off and she wanted to take her shoes off (I got her to put them on again, and then she could take them off. And then she was happy.)
  • The TV programme she doesn't want to watch has finished

And a thousand more!

DS sometimes tells me crossly 'stop looking at me with your eyes'. A couple of days ago I was woken by his face in my face and the whisper 'I am looking at you'.

Maybebabybee · 25/08/2016 16:41

I'm crying at these. Fucking hilarious.

My DS is only 5 months, I sort of can't wait...

DS had a meltdown today because I wouldn't help him put his willy in the dogs water bowl.

T0ddlerSlave · 25/08/2016 16:48

Because I admired her red ribbon. She asserted it was in fact a green ribbon but she wanted a red one. I couldn't supply one (because she was already holding it...)

rosesarered9 · 25/08/2016 16:51

OP According to my DM I was attached to dirty nappies as well. Smile

Well, be fair, it is rather hot today.

DD: when I grow up I'm going to be a dancer and a singer.
DS: and I be a train driver
My mum: how lovely so DD, you will be a lovely singer and a dancer and DS, you will be lovely train driver.
DS: waaaaaaaaaah! NO NO NO. I be a DANCER.
My mum: ??

(Me: told you so)

cityrat79 · 25/08/2016 17:58

She asked Daddy to draw a cat.

Daddy drew a cat.

It was the wrong sort of cat.

Two hours that one took.

DD 2.4 currently having a tantrum over what colour melon she can have. Current mantra is I don't want the green melon I want the blue melon Hmm
She has just requested raspberries despite never eating them in the past and just burst into further tears declaring them yucky.

I am leaving DH to enter into UN style peace keeping needed to diffuse the lack of blue melon in our fridge.

CoodleMoodle · 25/08/2016 18:42

Because I told someone he was 3 "I'M THREE AND A HAAAAALF!!!" (dS2)

So familiar! Woe betide anybody who calls DD (2.5) a baby. "I. AM. A. TODDALAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!"

abbsismyhero · 25/08/2016 19:48

Because we are in a caravan with no real tv and he wants Netflix at two am

Because he wants to go to the beach followed by because we are at the beach

Because he wants the orange icepop because I bought him the bloody thing

idontevencare · 25/08/2016 20:20

Not quite a tantrum but a few weeks ago DD woke up in the night crying "I want to go to bed".

ImNotTheLadies · 25/08/2016 20:48

not so much a weird tantrum but i've gotta get this off my chest dear lord.

FIL passed away recently and a friend gave us one of those story books about death for kids. Queue an hour long train ride where it's all i have on me to ''entertain'' dd (3) ... thought it would be okay since we keep an open discussion about his death and she was tired and not really listening. What i didn't anticipate was her screaming ''I DON'T WANT TO DIE MUMMY! I DON'T WANT TO BE DEAD IN THE GROUND''

ds (nearly 6) trying to reassure her ''it's okay dd, everybody has to die''. fail. even worse was me trying to reassure her, grandad was very old and very ill...
and the killer line ''I DON"T WANT LIVER DISEASE''

next time we're on public transport i'll just pop her a sedative i think.

ImNotTheLadies · 25/08/2016 20:52

dd; mummy i'm hot, take off my tights
she runs around the park in bare legs for 10 minutes.
dd; mummy i'm hot, take of my legs
??

i did have a little chuckle which didn't go down well. she's then lying on the floor, flailing her unwanted limbs ''TAKE THEM OFF ME NOW MUMMY''

ImNotTheLadies · 25/08/2016 20:52

(i should clarify the sedative comment is a joke, forgot this is mumsnet)

Justwanttoweeinpeace · 25/08/2016 20:57

Massive tantrum this morning and this evening because pull ups are 'nast'. Looks like we are starting night time potty training then Sad

IloveBabyBubbles · 25/08/2016 21:07

DD (2 1/2) had a tantrum because I put her (identical) socks on the "wrong feet" Hmm

MumiTravels · 25/08/2016 21:41

I've got a cracking photo of DS having a tantrum because..

I wouldn't let him poke the dog in the eye.

Yesterday I was waiting for an appointment in a very quiet private medical centre. In walks harassed looking mum of 3 DC's. Youngest DC proceeded to have thee biggest tantrum I've ever witnessed in the middle of the reception area, for what I could only grasps as she wanted to go upstairs, but there wasn't any stairs in the building. It was that loud at one point the receptionist had to relocate the group to a side room Shock

amysmummy12345 · 25/08/2016 21:59

This will out me, but here is my DD having a massive tantrum because she washed the flowers and wanted me to fix them back together with glue Confused

Weirdest reason for a toddler tantrum?
happywithlife06 · 25/08/2016 23:13

Grandson goes shopping with me twice a week, one day in the car for the big shop, one day in the pushchair for a walk round the shops and a bit of fresh air.
Every bloody time, if we're going in the car he wants to go in the pushchair. If we're going in the pushchair he wants to go in the car. Had amazing screaming fit this week whilst walking to the car, I said I could scream louder - and I did!

happywithlife06 · 25/08/2016 23:15

Oh and he doesn't want his shoes/jumper/reins on. And don't get me started on broken cheese-how the hell can a bit of cheese cut off the lump of cheese be broken?

muddypuddled · 25/08/2016 23:19

My ds once had a tantrum because his drink of water was too wet...
