Hi,

My daughter is 13 months and I'm a SAHM. I've been to a couple
of toddler groups recently (just before the holidays started) and noticed all of the babies were happy exploring their surroundings, but my DD was clinging to me and just trying to climb on me and sit on my lap. She's very much like this at home too, if I sit on the sofa, she will pull at my legs and cry/moan until I pick her up, or go back to sitting on the floor. I know this is not healthy for either of us and I'm finding it extremely suffocating and hard work, to the point I'm not enjoying being a SAHM anymore. I don't know if I'm expecting too much, but surely I shouldn't have to sit on the floor all day, trying to entertain her? Any advice would be helpful.

Thank you!

Has she always been clingy or is it a new development? My DS is 14 months and is usually one of the explorers, but he can be clingy sometimes. It drives me mad. I usually put it down to teeth or him being a bit under the weather. They also go through various developmental phases

I've just noticed she has partially cut two big molars at the back, so could be why she's extra clingy, also explains why she's been waking so much lately. She's generally quite clingy though, mind you she's only ever with me mostly as I'm a SAHM.

No, you shouldn't have to sit and play with her all day! I'm not surprised you're not enjoying being at home with her, it must be exhausting.

There is a part of respectful parenting called self-directed play, or similar. Might be worth dipping into here

If she's cutting her molars, though, then all bets are off.
