How old were your babies when they started sleeping through?

I'm really struggling with my DS who is now 7 weeks, he wakes at least 3 times in the night for a feed. He is bottle fed but has been having 6/7 oz so it's taking a long time to feed him.
Its really starting to interrupt his sleep as he wont settle straight after a bottle.
I keep being told and reading about women who's babies sleep right through from being 4 weeks.
Can anyone give me some advice on how to get him to settle/ reduce feeds before I turn into a total and utter zombie?

DS was around 2 years and DD is 31 months and still wakes once most nights.

Tangoandcreditcards · 15/08/2016 06:29

DS1 - 2.5yo and still not reliable. FF and did at least 2 night feeds until around 9mo. But kept waking up twice even when no more feeds.

DS2 (currently 8mo) started doing a 6hr stretch at about 10w and 1 night feed at the mo (around midnight).

We didn't do anything differently.

Good advice about accepting the baby you have. My dd was about 20 months when she started sleeping through which coincided with her getting all her teeth.

It was very hard but I slept with her most of the time as that way we both got more sleep.

My son didn't sleep through routinely until he was 13 months old.
7 weeks is tiny and it's perfectly normal for a baby that small to be waking that much.

eurochick · 15/08/2016 07:09

10,2 and 7 is only really one night wake up for you surely? You feed at 10 and the go to bed. Wake in the night to feed once and then feed at 7 and get up. That's really good!

EarthboundMisfit · 15/08/2016 07:21

My first two, 10 weeks. My third, 18 months.

Schmoochypoos · 15/08/2016 07:32

DS1 slept through 7-7 reliably when he was 1. But had been pretty good from 6/7months only waking for his dummy and I'd give him breakfast bottle anytime from 4am which would settle him back until 7ish.

DS2 is still waking 2/3 times for a feed (I ebf) and is often awake for the day at 530am 😱

It's exhausting but he will get there in the end.

Primaryteach87 · 15/08/2016 21:15

Depends how you define "through" but my DS slept 7-7 for the first time at 7 months and then reliably about 8.5months.

Alisvolatpropiis · 15/08/2016 21:17

About 16 weeks.

Didn't do anything to make it so, it just happened.

sunnydayinmay · 15/08/2016 21:19

Ds1 was 7 weeks, but he did scream all day. At 17 months he started to wake between 3 and 10 times a night, and this went on until he was 4!

DS2 was 7 months.

janethegirl2 · 15/08/2016 21:25

The first one slept through from 5 weeks, the other was around 3 years old.

I don't think you can guarantee anything with little ones.

bugsey123 · 15/08/2016 23:55

Ds was 12 weeks.. But only for 2 weeks as he started teething but was only waking once! 7 weeks is still early days and I was the same hearing about all these very young babies sleeping through- my mum is convinced it's a myth Grinit's definitely something to look forward to.. And it will happen - if your anything like me I was convinced he'd never sleep through! It's bloody hard xx

bugsey123 · 15/08/2016 23:59

My version of sleeping through is in bed at 7pm dream feed at 10.30 and waking around 6-7am xx

age81 · 16/08/2016 00:16

DD 6 weeks old
DS 5.5 weeks old, both had naps in the day too until they were nearly 4. Both FF and no dream feeds. Routine every night.

Still great sleepers unless ill.

dinodiva · 16/08/2016 06:23

4 times in 11 months.

littlepinkmouseofsugar · 16/08/2016 08:01

Age 3
Age 5
Still waiting for No 3.

At 7 weeks I'd have not expected sleeping through, sorry. Cosleeping is what made life bearable for us - meant baby got back to sleep much faster and so did I with no waking up getting out of bed and stumbling about and getting cold.

TriJo · 16/08/2016 08:18

12 weeks ish. He's 20 weeks now and usually goes a 10 hour stretch at night unless it's very hot, I give a dream feed at around 1 am in that case.

3luckystars · 16/08/2016 08:27

YEARS.

Age 6.

6 years!

312 weeks old.

That was the first one though, the second one was much better but definitely not as young as 7 weeks!

Third and final baby, is a 7 week old right now and will be happy if she sleeps before age 3, will consider it a miracle if she sleeps before 12 months. Congratulations on your new baby.

Daytona79 · 16/08/2016 08:37

23 months old and still not slept through

LovelyWeatherForDucks · 16/08/2016 08:40

DS2 (now 1) had no real sleep issues (yet!) gradually cut down night feeds and was sleeping through the night at about 8/9 months, would usually self settle quickly after feeds.

DS2 (now nearly 4) still wakes up quite often, often twice a night, needing a cuddle/wee/duvet fixed etc etc, and if he wakes up after about 4am he struggles to go back to sleep. He has never really reliably slept through the night!

However both are usually up for the day well before 6am !!

milkmet · 19/08/2016 22:20

DD1 - 1 year (bf) DD2 - 4 weeks (FF) go figure....

nightandthelight · 20/08/2016 08:32

DS has started to this week at 6.5 months! He seems to be alternating nights at the mo :) Didn't do anything, no dream feed or sleep training. Perhaps it was introducing solids or just that he was ready.

Not looking forward to the 8mo sleep regression...

Vanillaradio · 20/08/2016 11:49

The first time was 11 weeks (that was 11 till 7. ) We had a few good weeks after that then plunged headlong into 4 month sleep regression which was not fun! Started again at about 7 months (7 to 7) and has been pretty reliable since although at 2 yrs 9 months we still have bad nights every so often( eg last night!) which are usually caused by teething, eczema flare up or illness.

muminmanchester · 20/08/2016 11:53

I feel your pain! It always seems like everyone else's babies are sleeping through except yours! My son is 8 months... He almost always wakes in the night (see many, many previous posts!!) but is slowly improving

However, I think everything is a phase when they are babies. Nothing seems to last longer than a few weeks before its all change again.

I'm sure it's not what you want to hear right now but I promise that it does get easier to bear. Get yourself to bed early and try to maximise your own sleep - it's much easier to deal with that way. Good luck! X

chattygranny · 20/08/2016 11:59

Regularly?: DS : 1 year, DD1: 8 weeks, DD2: 6 weeks, DD3: (except for the odd fluke) 5 years! Just goes to show they're all different. With the little ones I mean maybe midnight to 6am (that's through at that stage!) and with the ones in years I mean going to bed some time in the evening and sleeping until 5:30-6am unfortunately our youngest just couldn't do it and used to come in and lift my eyelids to make sure I wa there! She remembers it and says she used to wake up and think "I need mummy". It did stop eventually, she's still not a great sleeper (nor is no1) but as she's a nurse now that's quite useful!
