Slightly trivial but do you put a clean babygro and vest on your baby each night...

even if they are clean ? My ds of 6 months has a bath each night. If he hasn't wee'd or worse I put him in them again the next night ....same with his day clothes (only change if he's spilt food or dribbled/sicked down them).....
Is this awful? No doubt as he starts crawling, eating more himself then I'll need to wash his day clothes more often.
My mum is obsessed with washing his clothes all the time.....
What do others think?

DS gets everything filthy, but if not, yup I'd leave it.

Baths are hit n miss too... face, bum and hands are always washed, but full baths often take far more energy than I have!

gingermonkey · 31/01/2007 11:45

I have a 16 mth ds and he (usually) has a clean one at night and wears it the next day. Unless he has a messy breakfast and then he has a clean one in the morning as well. When he was small (up to about 6 months) he'd have a bath once a week too, and just a willy and face wash once a day! I know a girl who has spare everything in her nappy bag - and not just one set, she gets through clean clothes like you wouldn't believe, just because of a bit of dribble...bizarre! Oh, and his pjs usually get 2 nights wear out of them too, and so do his trousers.

ingym23 · 31/01/2007 14:15

I change DS2 when he's dirty. Recently he went two nights in the same outfit, and even that was too long for my liking, so I changed him and wouldn't you know it, he had a blowout in his new clean babygro straightaway, so he needed another clean outfit.

He has about two baths a week....

OMG I must be obsessive about this - ds is bathed every night, clean sleepsuit every night and goes through at least one change of clothes (mainly tops as he is a messy eater) each day.

i did wonder why our washing machine is always going

Lullabyloo · 31/01/2007 15:09

Bathing children is a waste of water?
It's not just about cleanliness,it's about establishing a calm routine that winds children down & encourages restful sleep.
I couldn't possibly put a sweet smelling squeaky clean lo into grubby jim jams.Nor could i dress him in yesterdays clothes-I wouldn't wear yeaterdays clothes-why should he?
I dont iron socks though

Weatherwax · 31/01/2007 15:20

Reading this just makes me think my kids have always been odd. There is no way anything they wear stays clean. Total dirt magnets from birth

gingermonkey · 31/01/2007 15:29

I must be a right mucky cow, I wear yesterday's clothes (no undies of course!)

gingermonkey · 31/01/2007 15:29

I meant NOT undies, ooops!

DS has clean vest and outfit every morning and clean vest and babygro at night. Grobag is changed every 3 days or so.

I am trying to get some wear out of his tonnes of 0-3 month clothes before he grows out of them. I'm sure as he gets older and he has less clothes in his wardrobe to choose from I'll stop caring so much about changing him all the time.

Kiff · 31/01/2007 18:42

Always put on a clean one after his bath - he's nekkid anyway, so clean as easy as dirty, isn't it? The washing machine'll have to go anyway one vest more one vest less.

au contraire - never change in the morning. Stressful enough as it is getting out the house

Twinklemegan · 31/01/2007 19:39

My DS gets a new vest on each night but his sleeping bag gets washed twice a week, or more often if he's sicked on it really badly (must get another one ). I don't tend to have this dilemma with his daytime clothes as he gets through about three sets a day, what with food, sick, wee, etc. (and I only change when it's really bad). But if we get to bedtime and his last set is still clean then I'll put him in them the next day no probs.

ILoveDolly · 31/01/2007 20:37

dd gets a bath every other night and on that night clean vest and pjs, and my water bill is astronomical so no way am i going to increase number of baths and laundry!!

TootToot · 01/02/2007 07:40

My daughter (7 months) has a bath every night. After this, I put a clean vest and babygro on her. I don't change her again (unless absolutely necessary)the next morning so she stays in her 'pyjamas' all day until bathtime and then gets a clean pair etc etc. I wonder how long I can get away with this?

Wow I must be a bit obsessive as well, both DDs (2 1/2 and 1) get clean vests and PJs every night after a bath (no bath on a Saturday night though). Clean clothes every morning.

I hate ironing so only iron what I absolutely have to, if they are staying indoors all day they get non ironed clothes. Only iron what gets seen.

My MIL is an ironing fanatic, she irons everything as soon as it is out the washing machine, socks, towels the lot. She says it cuts down on drying time

BigHotMama · 01/02/2007 14:13

Lol at ironging sock!

I think I may cut down ont he washing as ds gets bath everyday and new vest and babygro every night then new vest and new outfit during the day. didnt realise I'm making more bloody work for meself!

leahsmum · 01/02/2007 15:16

I really must be obsessive - cant believe how many people dont even dress their children out of their bedclothes in the day.

isabellasmum · 01/02/2007 18:55

Am now concerned about my sanity...

DD gets clean everything when I top and tail her every morning: vest, clothes, cardi, hat etc. She generally has at least one full outfit change during the day - am bf and nappies leak. Then when I bath her at night she has another clean vest, babygrow and grobag.

I iron all bibs, muslins, clothes, sheets, grobag etc. Don't do socks or knitwear tho!!!!

I had assumed until reading this that this was normal?

Lullabyloo · 01/02/2007 20:35

it is for me

I'm with BigHotMama and Isabella'smum - I had no idea I was a cleanliness freak - that'd make my DH ROFL!

Emprexia · 01/02/2007 20:52

I dont have a tumble dryer, my washing has to dry on the radiators so the longer DS can wear his clothes, the better.

As long as he's not got them dirty then an extra day won't do any harm. He sometimes gets 2-3 nights out of his sleepsuits and 2 days out of his vests.

We generally end up changing his t-shirts everyday because of the drool, lol.

UniSarah · 01/02/2007 21:00

Clean grobag very night! blimey, how much money do some of you have ! We have 2 grobags ( baby sleepingbags) and they get used for a week or so like sheets duvet covers etc unless covered in calpol or puke. i guess if you tumble dry you can do it logisticly, I can't as only line dry.
