Slightly trivial but do you put a clean babygro and vest on your baby each night...

even if they are clean ? My ds of 6 months has a bath each night. If he hasn't wee'd or worse I put him in them again the next night ....same with his day clothes (only change if he's spilt food or dribbled/sicked down them).....
Is this awful? No doubt as he starts crawling, eating more himself then I'll need to wash his day clothes more often.
My mum is obsessed with washing his clothes all the time.....
What do others think?

never iron and have been known to send my 5 year old to bed in his (clean) school uniform to save time in the morning

lullabyfornow · 30/01/2007 17:40

I only change dd's clothes when thy are dirty, although as she has breakfast in last night's babygro they are nearly always in need of a change, she's 8 months. However, I can't believe those who say they obsessively iron everything and wash even when not necessary, and compare them to adults. Babies hardly produce the same levels of sweat etc as adults, and aside from the environmental naughtiness of washing/ ironing too frequently, it's bad to keep babies too clean - they need to build up their immune systems!

zookeeper - were you previously known as zebra?

zookeeper · 30/01/2007 18:14

err, no...

auntymandy · 30/01/2007 18:27

I always got mine ready for bed at night from day one. Sort of start the bedtime routine. Always had good sleepers too..not sure if this is why.

NotAnOtter · 30/01/2007 18:29

i am actually really surprised at this thread - i think babies need a clean babygro everyday....

adath · 30/01/2007 19:58

Clean pj's babygro every night same as vest put them on after bath but day clothes I washe after a couple of wears if they are clean, babies do not sweat as much as we do and if my trousers are clean tomorrow i will wear them again. Do not see the point in giving myself anymore washing than I already do.

Mandymoo · 30/01/2007 21:22

god no - only change when its bath night or if soiled

Toothyboy · 30/01/2007 21:38

Ds2 (11 months) gets clean vest every night after his bath, then stays in that vest for the following day. Has been known to get another night and day out of it if I can't be bothered to give him a bath and it's still clean! Pjs - as many nights as I can get away with (usually 3-4).

sauce · 31/01/2007 08:03

Babies are very clean. They're hardly galloping about in the mud playing footie or something, are they? Unless your floors are particularly dirty or there's an "accident" with bodily fluids...

divamumdiva · 31/01/2007 09:41

clean clothes after bath every night. although dd lived in baby grows till 9m, i only dressed her when we went out of house, im against dressing newborn in denim head to toe.

nogoes · 31/01/2007 09:46

Ds is now 2.5 and I only wash his day clothes when they are dirty. I have always put on a clean babygro/pj's and vest until the other day when I realised that I have spent the last 2 and a half years washing clean babygros & vests for no reason.

harpsichordcarrier · 31/01/2007 09:48

I leave her in the vest until it is grubby looking. outer clothes I change a lot though, mainly because she feeds herself and I don't tend to use bibs unless we are out.

Lizzylou · 31/01/2007 09:58

DS1 (almost 3) clean vest every night after bath and PJ's changed every other night
DS2 (11mths) clean vest and babygro/PJ's every night after bath

They are messy lil pups but I don't iron vests/PJ's (to mortification of my Mom)..clothes normally changed every day too

Winston · 31/01/2007 10:19

DDs (11mts and 3 years) both wear same jammies for about 3 nights ASLONG as they are clean. They go in them straight after bath then are packed off to bed and in the morning they are washed and dressed before they go downstairs for breakfast so to be honest they dont get chance to get them dirty. As some of you have said in previous messages, I think too much washing isnt very green and cost us more to do it so only dirty clothes go in machine. After DD1 born was obssessed with keeping her clean but that went out the window the minute she could crawl and eat mud!

deaconblue · 31/01/2007 10:22

I must be obsessive too. Ds has clean vest and babygrow every night and clean clothes every day. I change his clothes whenver they get a bit grubby during the day too. Must get a life

AnnieOleTing · 31/01/2007 10:51

I'll put clean ones on after a bath, but if I don't bath her for a few days, then the same one stays on. Unless I get around to dressing her some days, in which case she may get a clean sleepsuit that night if there's spillage on last night's one.
Never ever ever ever iron anything. Waste of your life. DD is 6 months.

DS on the other hand, 21 months, gets filthy every day so have to change everything every day...

Herbgarden, you're not awful! MIL also washes everything in sight if a speck of dust gets on it...

NotAnOtter · 31/01/2007 10:54

Dont you all bath babies every night?
My lamb is 11 months and has always had a bath ever night....i dont like sniffy babies!

deaconblue · 31/01/2007 11:03

Ds has a bath every night too, he can't get to sleep without one anymore.

EllieHsMum · 31/01/2007 11:07

dd is 8 months has bath every night & clean vest & baby grow each night. Clean vest & outfit after top/tail wash each morning.

honeyapple · 31/01/2007 11:09

Dirt is good for kids.
Bath every night is a waste of water.
Ironing kids clothes is insane.

thell · 31/01/2007 11:20

DD has a clean vest every night before bed, which stays on for 24 hrs unless soiled. Then she has pyjamas / babygro for sleeping in, worn for 2 - 3 nights, and day clothes which get worn twice if clean. When she was tiny she would get a clean vest and babygro every 24 hrs. She has a bath every other night now (due to dry skin)- I think with cloth nappies she does get a bit yucky and clothes get a bit fusty if not changed this often.

I do think ironing baby clothes is slightly crackers!!

And to you Zookeeper!!!

thell · 31/01/2007 11:22

ps DD is 11mths and I still use her baby bath. Such a waste of water to fill the entire bath for such a weeny person!
