My baby fell off my bed!!

My nearly 8 month old fell off our bed onto the carpet. I left her on there in the middle of it and she must have learnt how to sit up from lying down. I was running a bath and heard a Big Bang and she was on her back crying. I feel such a shit, shit mum right now, I hate myself.

She stopped crying after 2 minutes and I managed to get a few smiles out of her about 10 mins after. She had a full 8 oz bottle and went to sleep. Do you think I should be worried? I am worried and have checked on her 3 times already, she has no lumps or swelling.

Happened to mine once. Gave me a horrible shock but he was absolutely fine :-))

Ah it's like a rite of passage it's so incredibly common. I've never met a baby who hasn't rolled off the bed.

Don't beat yourself up too much.

Mine haven't rolled of the bed. They have all rolled off the sofa though. I have 3. You'd think by now I would have learnt...

simlar happend to me today my 11 month old on the bed in my daughters room she was looking after him whilst i was doing stuff. and he fell of the bed. on to the laminated flooring he has a bump and bruise. he soon stopped crying and seems to be himself.

i hope your baby is ok. i would be checking to make sure she seems herself. and look out for if she seems drowsy. dont feel bad theses things happen ((hugs))

Have a and take a deep breath. She will be fine. It happens SO often, and everyone beats themself up and feels like the worst mother ever but be reassured she will be ok.

It happens. Ds fell off the sofa.
If your baby seems fine, which she does, you're ok and it won't ever happen again...

My ds2 who's 5 carried ds3 (11th at the time ) all the way upstairs and proudly plonked him on my bed thinking he was helping me out as I was cleaning ds1 sick up!! Needless to say baby fell straight onto the floor. Turns out he'd picked him up in a bear hug type grip and hauled him up the stairs to me 🙈 the joys of having multiple children!! Point of the story although baby cried at 1st more shock than anything he was absolutely fine within a couple minutes

It really is a rite of passage. If she'd broken a bone then she wouldn't stop crying and if she had a head injury shed be unresponsive. Just give a poke every now and again. That's what I always did. Welcome to the real side of parenting 😊

My DD1 (10mo) fell off the bed, DD3 (baby) rolled off the sofa, and I trapped DFD 2's (toddler) fingers in the car door (hinge end not handle end- I checked that side!). DS 1 completely mashed his face up in a fully 'professionally supervised' 2-1 play session (not on my watch, I hasten to add), however DS 2 managed to escape unscathed.

When you spend so much time with a LO, statistically it is literally bound to happen.

Don't beat yourself up about it, you are most definitely not the worst mother ever

Massive well done on getting to 8 months before you dropped her/let her roll off something!

Don't sweat it. She'll be fine. Bed onto carpet, relaxed muscles - she would almost certainly have only cried because of the shock.

Be kind to yourself. She's already forgotten

Our kids' doctor says that if a child cries immediately it's very unlikely that they are seriously injured. If they seem stunned or if there was a gap before crying when the child might have been knocked unconscious then you should get a doc to check them out. This rule of thumb has calmed my nerves many times over the years!

When our 9mo fell off a highish bed years ago, NHS direct said that kids should be seen by a doc after falls of over a metre.

Poor you, take a deep breath. It happens to everyone and we all feel terrible. I'd keep a close eye on her and maybe check her a couple of times during the night probably more for my benefit than the baby's

DS 9 months launched himself off the sofa out of someone's lap the other day, and is at the pulling up on everything and cruising stage and seems to be constantly falling and hitting his head. Doctor said they're sturdier than you think and unless they are being very strange afterwards then just keep an eye and don't be concerned. Excessive crying or very listless and unresponsive would be classed as strange!

There's a special rule that this has to happen at least once for every baby. I didn't hear dd1 when she fell off the bed and got the shock of my life to return to my bedroom and find no baby there. After a heart-stopping moment I discovered her under the bed . I'm not even going to tell you the dd2 story which involves falling onto all sorts of nails and other diy stuff .

I fell down the stairs with DD when she was a few month old and cried far more than she did. I held her above my head and took the brunt of the fall but now I'm even scared to carry DS to bed

I agree with everyone else. It happens. They carry on with life as before.
OTOH, it might make sense for her to be on the bathroom floor if you are in the bathroom, from now on - you'd expect a baby to be moving at 8 months.

10mo DS would have dived over the back of the sofa today if I hadn't grabbed his ankle just in time... causing him to bang his face on the windowsill instead .

Amber I tripped and dropped my ds when he was 8 months old. He bounced on the pavement. It was quite possibly the worst day of my life. I took him to a&e and everything. He's now almost 4 and no ill effects.
Be kind to yourself, just as other posters said to me at the time. These things happen

Mine are 13 and 11 and both did it! With DD1 DH and I both watched in slow motion as she rolled off into hard wooden floor! Rushed her to docs as she had a big lump on her head, was terrified nurse would call SS and she'd be taken away but she was so relaxed about it - said it happens to everyone! It's awful when they get hurt and you feel you could have prevented it but honestly, you're not a shit mum, happens to us all and baby will be fine

It's horrible but I'm sure she will be fine, particularly on carpet. My eldest is 18 and I will never forget the morning, when he was 9 months old, I woke up to find he'd crawled over me in the night and fallen out the bed. He was perfectly happy and fast asleep, he was just under the bed! I, however, was mortified and it was the last time I ever co slept with him.

DC1 rolled out the Moses basket at a few weeks old when DH tried to lift it by the two handles and one of them slipped. Thankfully he was well swaddled and kind of rolled onto the carpet.
I slid at the side of a swimming pool on holiday while carrying DC2 and fell. Managed to land near grass and rolled him onto that as I landed on my elbows (ouch) on the tiles.

It's almost inevitable it'll happen at some point. Don't beat yourself up, she'll be fine.

I was visiting my parents when dd1 was, I dunno, 4-6 months, and she was sharing a double bed with me. I woke up in the morning, no baby there, assumed my mum had already come in and got her up, so I went back to sleep. Woke up again in a bit, got up this time, and found the baby on the floor, still fast asleep!
