At what age does it become 'easier' with kids?

You're all going to say it doesn't aren't you . But with DD aged 3 and DS aged almost 2, I'm just fed up having to fend for other people. Yes I know they are my kids and they can't help it but I'm bored and cranky. They've had colds for what seems like weeks. Weather been wretched. Hardly been out but TBH it's easier to stay in and have everything to hand as I just seem to get in a flap if I go anywhere with them.
I look a mess, permanently covered in bits of them, I'm tired all the time, hugely resentful of DH for not having to deal with my day etc. etc.
Oh for when they can dress themselves and put on their seatbelts and follow instructions to the letter.

Oh and the constant "Mummy" "Mummy" every 30 seconds. When do they understand the concept of "in a minute, I'm having a dump". Yesterday DD asked me 10 times where I was and each time I shouted "up the stairs tidying, just come up if you need me". Has she turned stone deaf or what?

when they are able to walk, talk and are potty trained and you are able to reason with them - about 4 I think IMHO

oh yes when they go to school - that's a good time - during the day anyhow

auntymandy · 05/01/2007 15:38

I believe its as easy as you make it. the more relaxed you are the easier it is.
When I am stressed and in a mood its hard work.
Chill relax and enjoy. they are little for such a short time, make the most of it!!

I ain't getting broody ever. Held a lovely wee baby yesterday but was delighted to hand him back to his mother. No chance. I ain't very good at motherhood. Not exactly taking to it like a duck to water.

Ha! My sister is 30 and still causing my mum sleepless nights...

VGS - I could have written your post myself!
(love the austin-powersesque name btw!)

snowfunwhenyoureknackered · 05/01/2007 15:44

volupta, god knows!

my 2 are 5 and 8 yrs and it's still bloody hard work

I guess if you have a lot of help this would make it easier (but wouldn't know as don't have any bloody help apart from dh)

VoluptuaGoodshag · 05/01/2007 15:47

I don't have much help either Snowfun. I did visit sis-in-law yesterday who watched them for an hour to let me get the shopping in. But I can't seem to function properly anymore. Rushed around the shop demented and didn't get half the stuff I needed. I used to be the most chilled out laid back dude in the world but have a permanently fraught look on my face.

I'm not sure it does. It's just that the 'difficult' times change at different ages.

I think mine were at their nicest between 4 and 10. I am being brutally honest here - I love them dearly, but the teenage years are definitely the hardest.

I often wish I could go back to the days when they were little.

My eldest will be 18 next week. I can't believe how the time has flown.

Judy1234 · 05/01/2007 17:15

Between 5 and 10 is easy. Teenagers (and I've had 3 so far) are much easier than babies waking you in the night. At least you get sleep. At least you can leave them on their own. The under 5s is the hardest stage of your lives.

From your original post I just cannot see why you don't work full time. I could barely stand a day at home with under 5 and could not have survived if I hadn't worked full time whatever the cost, even if I was doing it at a huge loss.

brandy7 · 05/01/2007 17:18

under 5's hardwork
5-9 easier
9 and up hardwork if hormones kick in early

hi zenia,

praps voluptua doesnt want or able to work full time.

juuule · 05/01/2007 17:27

Xenia - I can't agree that teens are easier than babies. They can be a bloomin' nightmare at times. Sleepless nights all over again.
