tips for getting rid of cradle cap?

I've been using the dentinox cradle cap shampoo for several months now on ds it doesn't seem to be making any difference. Any tips?

Loads of olive oil or Vaseline - rub on and leave overnight, wash off in the morning

Coconut oil is supposed to be very good. The only thing that worked for us was dentinox so it's a shame that's not working. It did work best for us if we lathered him up right at the start of the bath and left it on, washing it off right at the end, so it had a good 10-15 mins sitting on his scalp.

Brush it with a hair brush

Head and shoulders mild was the only thing that cleared my sons up.

I picked it off while DS was sleeping

Strangely addictive.

I second the olive oil, gently massaged into scalp , left for a few hours/overnight, then flakes tend to lift off when the hair is washed.
When DS1 was little (20 years ago) Johnson's baby oil was advised, for DD1(16 years ago) the health visitor advised almond oil but by the time DD2 was born (12 years ago) they had stopped recommending almond oil due to potential nut allergies and changed to olive oil! Olive oil was still being advised for DD3 (within last 2 years) and did seem to work!

My specialist subject!

My son had the start of it as a young baby and I acted quickly which I think helped mean it never got bad. Of course maybe it just went away by itself. I know cradle cap isn't dangerous. I just don't like the look of it.

1. Wet scalp and then Gently massage olive oil (or sunflower oil - I have since learned olive oil shouldn't be used on babies) into his scalp using the Pourty cradle cap brush www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00VKAVAAS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_8Wg4wbHWRT107
2. Wash with Mustela new born baby foam shampoo (we are still using this - he's 6 months and it hasn't run out but we only bath a couple of times a week) www.mustela.com/en/content/Foam-shampoo-newborns
3. Leave shampoo on scalp while washing face and the rest of his body
4. rub gently again with special brush
5. Rinse

I buy Mustela products from ChemistDirect. They also do a cradle cap cream but you're supposed to leave it on overnight and wash off in the morning and that wasn't co vein net for us (made his hair look like a grease ball).

Info on olive oil as I realise I wasn't clear why we don't use it anymore. It was definitely recommended when my older son (now 5yo) was a baby and he did have eczema and still has a tendency to dry skin. So once I'd read this we stopped using it on his baby brother.

Baby oil. Cheaper and smells nicer than olive oil. Leave it on overnight. Work out the cc with a comb. Wash hair.

We did the above but with olive oil for dc1 but didn't work out the cc. It didn't work. With dc2 we did the above and it worked.

The health visitor at baby group was telling everyone not to use any oil because mites will burrow in the scalp......

Mites? What mites? It's a build up of dead skin cells! I used coconut oil and then rubbed at it gently with a warm flannel. Took about 3 attempts.

Mites in the oil? I've never heard of that and wouldn't you see them.

Olive oil and a soft hair brush.

I used baby oil which cleared it up really quickly. I used to rub it in after a bath.

Soft hair brush and... time. Cradle cap goes away by itself ultimately.

My lo had a head full of hair but loads of cradle cap, I took her doctors and got amazing advise. But baby oil onto baby's head and use a toothbrush to little lift the cradle cap then very very gents use a bit comb to collect the cradle cap. I was very apprehensive at first, but worked a treat. Thankfully lo no longer has cradle cap, but I can honestly say if any lo had cradle cap that's what I would do

Lots of sudocrem then picked off the dry bits.

I used butter and a baby brush on my sons, it never came back. HV suggested it (10 years ago)

Ds had a touch of it as a toddler and we used conditioner on the advice of the hairdresser. We massaged it into his scalp in the bath then rinsed. It worked well.

It depends how old your little one is.. My 10 week old has bad cradle crap (as I like to call it). Spreading down her face, in eyebrows etc.
Medicated shampoo is off, olive oil has gone nothing for her. She's currently using a coconut oil and coal tar shampoo from the gp.
Gp was totally fine when we went to ask for advice and not 'wasting timey' st all.

He's just turned 1

DD had loads of it when she was a few weeks old. I used coconut oil, left it on a while then used a nit comb. It came straight off and never returned :)

I was worried beforehand that it may be uncomfortable for DD but she loved it and dozed off with a smile while I was doing it!

Annoyingly, Detinox didn't do a thing for my DD's.

My mum insisted on rubbing in baby oil, then brushing off later during her bath... I scoffed for ages then relented. It did actually work. gritted teeth

Now a few months on she has more hair so it's not such a big deal anymore - it doesn't seem to bother her (although picking it off was very tempting at one stage).
