My 6 month old ds has got a really red bum. Ive put loads of nappy rash cream on and tried leaving his nappy off for a while to air it. Ive also tried vaseline.
Today it looks really raw and he's screaming when i touch it to change him.
Does anyone know what i can get that will make this better??

metanium is the stuff. Bl**dy marvellous stuff. Only thing that really worked on ds.

MrsWednesday · 20/12/2006 12:44

Would also agree with metanium, it's the only thing that has worked with my DSs.

fifiandtheflowertots · 20/12/2006 12:44

where can i get that? is it just from the chemist?

You can get it from the chemist and also from some supermarkets I think - my local Morrisons and Tesco sell it.

fifiandtheflowertots · 20/12/2006 12:48

Thanks for that, im going shopping later so will try and pick some up.

It's in a yellow tube with purple writing on it. Hope you find some!

bundle · 20/12/2006 12:50

metanium is v good but make sure you keep it out of reach (dd1 once plastered her face with it, and it's pretty powerful stuff ). vaseline will just seal it as it's waterproof.

another cream I found very useful is calendula cream - i get it here in Aus at the health food shops - or pawpaw ointment - brilliant.

2000milestoeidsvold · 20/12/2006 12:51

paw paw ointment

juuule · 20/12/2006 13:17

Another vote for Metanium here.

DarrellRivers · 20/12/2006 13:18

metanium is blooming fabulous

steffy1 · 20/12/2006 14:22

what about bepanthen? thats always worked for me!

deckthehillswithboughsofmummy · 20/12/2006 14:22

We use metanium or camilosan which ever I can get when I go shopping as both work really well. Metanium does tend to stain any clothes it makes contact with.

HarkTheAEROdAngelsSing · 20/12/2006 14:27

Definitely metanium, but do make sure you follow the instructions carefully. It needs to be applied very thinly so that the skin can still breathe while it's healing. It works fabulously well and very quickly too. You should see a difference overnight. Just don't make the mistake of 'caking' it on as it won't be so effective (according to another poster a little while ago on here). Thinly is the key. Hope it clears up soon.

tinkerbellie · 20/12/2006 14:27

thankyou have been trying to tink of metium for weeks for ds's bum
wher can you get it i think i got it presribed once for ds and it worked straight away
but haven't seen any for ages

Scootergirl · 20/12/2006 14:34

I got mine in Sainsburys.

PinkTinsel · 20/12/2006 14:57

bepanthan, and if it's not clearing i'd check and make sure nothing dietary is causing it. dd gets red raw blistered nappy rash from cow's milk.

fifiandtheflowertots · 20/12/2006 15:15

thanks for all the replies. I dont think its dietry with him. He was constipated but now he's the opposite which i think is causing it.
I'll definatley get some metanium tonight though, thanks again

May I just say (no offence Pink Tinsel) but Bepanthen BURNT ds's bottom. I'd never use that again.

Pixiefish · 20/12/2006 21:19

Metanium. Also put acouple of camomille tea bags in his bath

GoodKingWestCountryLass · 20/12/2006 21:36

Apparantly egg white does the trick, assumming no egg allergy.

Pixiefish · 20/12/2006 21:39

I used cloth and whenver dd got a rash I used raw silk liners- you could use those in a disp I spose and just hand wash them. Raw silk has healing properties apparently

fifiandtheflowertots · 21/12/2006 10:08

i managed to get some metanium last night and ds has had about 5 lots of it on and he's not crying now when im changing him, he still has a red bum but it doesnt seem as raw.
Thanks everyone for your replies
