Hello All,
I applied for my son to join the modelling agency m0del (the O isn't a letter it's number zero) and he got selected. He his 5 month and 3 weeks.

I know I should of done the research beforehand however I can't find much info on the agency now and to find info is from the website only. Has anyone come across this website. I applied through Facebook.

Let me know Smile
Thanks
Nas

Does anyone have the proper address for NYC please?

CliveHurst · 20/04/2016 16:17

Any legal document needs to sent to their registered office, which is: 2 Longsight Road, Holcombe Brook, Ramsbottom, Bury, BL0 9TD (The same registered address as the firm of Simple Finance Solutions). Click: beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/07436932 You will be pleased to hear that the 'Compulsory Strike Off' was discontinued on 13 February...

Those working for these photographic studios may be giving out false names... Everything else IS false!!!

Lemon Studios, Jersey Street, Manchester, M4 6JG

That was where In Manchester, but was also called New York studios

Nads21 · 20/04/2016 17:03

Absolute scam!! Money takers! Please no one go to NYC Studios (Manchester, Shoreditch or any other branch) I should've known better as I'm 21 but I went to have some photos taken back in Feb 2016. Got to the place in Shoreditch and it was a tiny compact studio in the some basement. Took the photos which lasted about 10 minutes. Went to have a look at the pictures afterwards to be told I was successful. By this point I was too happy and excited (gullible) that I agreed to pay for the photos but I didn't realise they wanted £600 until I got home. What was strange was the guy who took my payment details down asked how much I earned and asked if I paid rent or mortgage, insurance etc and basically calculated my income to see if I could afford to pay the photos which was wrong. Told my dad and he rang up the main studio which X is based in Manchester and the bitch of a manager said we can't cancel cause I've signed a contract bla bla. Now if I'm not mistaken I thought with any contract you're allowed a 14 day cooling off period where you could cancel that but not with this agency. In the end they reduced the payment to about £580 which is still a lot of money. THEN I thought I was paying for prints so when I rang up again apparently I didn't ask for prints just a stupid disc with pictures on. So I basically paid £500 odd quid for a fuxking (excuse my French) disc with pictures on which I was livid about. In fairness it was my fault and I should've listened and paid attention to these sort of things but it was my first time doing something like that and I was just excited. But this is still a scam in my opinion...that's they're way bringing you in and you can't back out. So anyone who goes to these things PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read the contract carefully before you end up paying £600 for a stupid disc with pictures on.

I am so glad I have read this I was buzzing when I got a email for my son to go then seen my daughter has also be accepted . I asked on the phn does everyone get a email they said yes . Thank god I read this cause certainly wouldn't have been able to pay a fee x

Mummypiper · 22/04/2016 12:40

I applied for this for my daughter and just received a call to say that we have been successful and to arrange a day next week. I tried looking them up online and mumsnet popped up. I trust this site and after reading your comments I'm glad you're here!I hate that they have my information at that of my daughter, but it has atleast saved me time and money and my daughters disappointment finding out now.
Thank you

CliveHurst · 24/04/2016 18:53

A few mums have told me that they have sent this type of e-mail to "NYC Studios":

I have a right to cancel the contract I have with you and the finance company. A product or service must be fit for purpose. I also think that the aggressive misleading, hard sell techniques applied by your staff, go against the regulations governing this. Any court will take this evidence into consideration.

I believe your company set up this agency yourselves. Nobody can find a working office for M0del agency, not even the government! So why is your firm still dealing with these crooks? You used to run Blackberry Models, Adora Models, Assets Model Casting Agency (AMC) all of whom have now - disappeared? You are the only company known to deal with these bogus agencies. All of them were using NYC Studios Ltd. It cannot be a coincidence! Any legitimate company would have dropped this agency as soon as it was known it was a scam, but your company did not! Why? Any court will take this evidence into consideration.

An agency that does not exist - that your company is purportedly paid by?

M0del: "Our agency will cover the cost of the shoot including a hair and make up artist if required."

You are working for this agency - or the agency is working for you. Which is it? I did not contact NYC Studios. I was told by M0del that I had to undergo a test shoot with NYC Studios. I was not given a choice. I would never have agreed to deal with your company direct. I only paid this photographic fee, because M0del made it compulsory, if I wished to get a contract from M0del. But, the agency does not exist!

This is nothing but fraud! How can your company still deal with an agency, that does not exist? I expect a full refund. There is no agency contract. Any court will take this evidence into consideration.

I am now also considering taking out a Small Claims case in the County Court too, along with other victims, unless I get a refund within 10 days

CliveHurst · 24/04/2016 19:00

A few mums got this exact same reply - from NYC Studios/Limitless/Firefly, after writing complaining, of course there was no mention that M0del did not exist. I wonder why?:

"Further to your email, we would like to apologise for any ill will you seem to now have with our services. We do not like any of our customers to bear any bad feeling and hope we can appease your situation amicably.

"We have been open and honest with you at every point of contact, from calling to book your appointment over the phone, confirmation email explaining where to go and what to expect, to information given at our premises. The confirmation email states in black and white that there is no cost to yourself for the shoot, but if one wished to purchase images there would be an option to do so on the day. This is sent prior to you coming for your shoot. We are a completely separate company to the agency and have nothing to do with the modelling side of things. In purchasing your images from ourselves you have taken a product away with you and your finance relates to this purchase. These goods can be used however you see fit, but irrespective of their usage, they do need to be paid for.

"We are surprised at your comments, as the package purchased was made after viewing the images/goods in question, and these images have not since changed. There were a range of smaller packages available at this time also.

"Due to the nature of the product and goods in question, which you left happy with on the day of your appointment with us, a no cancellation policy applies. Essentially in purchasing the copyrights to your images you obtain intellectual property, and as I'm sure can be appreciated it would be very easy for anyone to purchase images in this way, transfer them to any hardware device before returning the disc and asking for money's to be returned. We as photographers follow the industry standard policies and protect ourselves from being open to theft.

"We are not here in any way accusing you of intentionally acting in such a way, just merely stating the facts, and trying to outline the reasons for such policies to be in place. Of course if such regulations were not adhered to, the photography industry could quickly come to a halt.

"The contractual agreements signed in accordance with your purchase do explain all of the above and you have signed ascertaining you have understood.

We are in no way unreasonable here at New York City, and we would always hope to conclude a dispute amicably. We are therefore happy to discuss the matter further. If you would like to call our office on 0161 763 2675 are open between 11am – 7pm Monday to Friday."

Anyone who wants to take court action, either individually or collectively should check out this information:

www.gov.uk/make-money-claim-online

www.gov.uk/make-court-claim-for-money

www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/503066/money-claim-online-user-guide.pdf

The cheapest way is completing "Money Claim On Line". You only take a claim for what you have paid so far (NOT the total amount). Up to £300 owed to you, the court fee on line, is £25 only. £300 to £500, the fee is still a modest £35. £500 to £1,000 the fee is just £60...

What could be easier? You do ALL the paperwork on line....

If they do not pay when they get the judgement, then as in the BBC programme, you can send the Sherriff's in! (Enforcement Officer), for a fee... :)

LJ85 · 25/04/2016 08:42

Clive you little beauty! Thank you

CliveHurst · 26/04/2016 14:45

Ah... that's a nice thing to say... However, I do not think I will win ANY beauty contests! :)

I have now found out that they are using another firm of photographers, in London, namely W8 Studios Ltd. Click/copy & paste: beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/09583248 Company only registered on 11 May 2015, by a 'junior photographer'? a Fernando Martins Da Silva...

Are they trying to muddy the evidence, again?

reliableforever · 26/04/2016 17:55

I had similar sort of experience. I went with my wife and didn't checked in advance and ended up paying £1200. It is all well & good that people discuss about the scam and warn each other but I think we should do something about the getting money back.

For example: my credit card provider said that i can't claim money back or stop the transaction because you paid there yourself.

I am in touch with Citizen advice bureau and they asked me to send them email and ask for refund.

I will appreciate if any one can suggest me effective way to get refund.Much appreciated.

Thanks

reliableforever · 26/04/2016 18:33

Hi Did you had any positive outcome from this? Please do post so other people can get benefit as well.

Thanks in advance.

wheeze65 · 26/04/2016 19:02

Reliable forever: I got my money back. My daughter (age 21) went to the studios in Manchester for the "test shoot" and between us we paid out £750, paying by debit card. I found out later that night that it was a scam and immediately contacted my bank the next day. They opened a case to investigate about getting our money back and in the meantime advised me to email the photographers, not M0del, to ask for a refund, so that we could have written proof that we had asked for a refund and they had refused. I did so, quoting the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2008/1277/regulation/3/made and citing the high pressure sales technique used by the "agent" at the studios and threatening legal action.
I got an email the very next morning from M0del to say they were refunding our money in full, and the money was back in our bank account by lunch-time.

wheeze65 · 26/04/2016 19:06

Sorry, wrong link in the post above!

Nibornomel · 26/04/2016 19:28

Would this work if it was 18 months ago under a different name they were operating under? Adora at that time.

Time limits

If you are going to take court action, you must do this within certain time limits. The time limit depends upon what type of action you are taking, for example, the time limit for breach of contract is six years.

You will need to be aware of the time limits for taking action and should seek help from an experienced adviser, for example, a Citizens Advice Bureau. To search for details of your nearest CAB, including those that can give advice by email, click on nearest CAB.

truthandmovement · 26/04/2016 22:59

@Clive - they've been operating out of W8 Studios for a while now. This was where I got scammed in Jan

LJ85 · 26/04/2016 23:29

Wheeze65 I've done almost same as you but no refund yet just the same reply everyone else seems to have had.

CliveHurst · 27/04/2016 00:11

I can only put together all the pieces - in this jigsaw, if people tell me. Is there anything else I should know? That I don't know? **(:^)

I think Wheeze65 may have got the refund - because M0del claimed/wrote they knew nothing about her and had said they had NOT offered her a contract...?

reliableforever · 27/04/2016 10:22

Clive - I can see you are doing really amazing works. Thanks for that.

I just want to say here I have sent them an email and asked for the refund of full money. Let's see what happens after that.

Clive - First of all can you suggest what are the other options to get refund apart from this which i can follow as a next step in case this doesn't work.

For stopping them continuing this practice. Can we not close door available open to them.

  • Like inform facebook about this kind of bogus company and not to allow them to put adverts.
  • May be educating people outside their premises and let them know what they are up to?

Clive - Let me know if i can be any help here to you.

Thanks
