My ds3 is 4 months old his eyes are still blue are they likely to stay this colour now? Ds1 eyes changed to brown but I can't remember by what age they had changed.

I think dtd1 started to change to brown at around 16 weeks. Dtd2 stayed blue. They were 5 weeks prem though, so in real terms it was at 11 weeks.

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 19/06/2015 14:03

DD2 changed age 3!Smile

Greenstone · 19/06/2015 14:08

Dd2's eyes changed to brown within about 2 weeks. Her older sister has blue eyes.

My first three dcs all had very blue eyes and I thought they'd change as dh and I have brown eyes but they didn't.
Dc4 was born with brown eyes (like dh) which the nurses said was very rare ??!

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 19/06/2015 14:13

They haven't yet at 19 months. Still bright blue. I was surprised as mine are very dark brown but DH's are bright blue and DD is blonde and very fair skinned.

ouryve · 19/06/2015 14:16

My boys' eyes didn't reach their final colour until they were about school age, but they both have slightly green eyes and green does usually take a few years to express fully.

ouryve · 19/06/2015 14:19

Not rare at all, Hedgehog - in the most simplistic terms, ignoring other alleles, you and your DH are clearly both heterozygous brown, so there's a 3/4 chance of offspring having brown eyes. Each of the DC with blue eyes only had a 1/4 chance of their eye colour, though!

Norfolknway · 19/06/2015 14:19

my dc both have had blue eyes since birth
they are 4 and 19 m now

TheBookofRuth · 19/06/2015 14:20

Both my babies were born with brown eyes, which stayed brown. Didn't know that was rare.

TheBookofRuth · 19/06/2015 14:21

Ah, xpost with ouryve!

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 19/06/2015 14:25

It is rare for white babies to be born with brown eyes.

It is to do with the melanin not being fully deposited in the iris at birth and darkening in response to uv exposure I believe. Smile

GlitzAndGigglesx · 19/06/2015 14:27

I have hazel eyes and dp has very dark brown eyes but dd was born with dark blue eyes and they changed to brown at around 9 weeks. She's mixed race and looked gorgeous with blue eyes. She still is just as gorgeous of course!

seaoflove · 19/06/2015 14:29

Around 6/7 months I think. DD was born with grey eyes, as most babies are, and I knew they'd tirn brown because she's mixed race (white/Asian). She used to get loads of compliments from strangers about how unusual her eyes were when they were in the process of changing.

Edenviolet · 19/06/2015 14:35

I think it was because ds2 was born with brown eyes that they were surprised, dh was too

mygrandchildrenrock · 20/06/2015 17:03

My DS was 3 when his changed from blue to green. I had no idea they could change colour that long after birth!

TheGirlAtTheRockShow · 20/06/2015 23:51

I have brown eyes, DH has bright blue eyes. DD is 11 months and over the last few months her eyes have gradually become a darker, almost grey blue. Not sure if this is her permenent colour yet. She's very blonde and fair skinned.

ShipShapeAhoy · 20/06/2015 23:56

My dd is nearly a year and hers are still blue, but mine changed to green when I was 2/or 3 so I haven't ruled that out yet.

avocadotoast · 20/06/2015 23:57

DD is four weeks and her eyes were very dark blue at birth. I noticed today that she's starting to get a lighter ring around her pupils. I'll be interested to see what colour they end up - though my eyes are a greyish-blue and DH's very much blue, so I doubt they'll be much different!

SirVixofVixHall · 21/06/2015 00:00

My dds changed from blue to green, at 12 months they were still mainly blue. DD2s are darker green/brown and hers changed slightly earlier. My friend's ds's eyes took 2 years to change from blue to green!

SweetSorrow · 21/06/2015 00:02

My 1 year olds have literally in the last few weeks changed from blue to hazel, her hair has gone blonde too, it's very odd! Grin

SirVixofVixHall · 21/06/2015 00:02

My eyes have changed colour in my late 30s/40s. They are bluer than they used to be. (They were a hazelly green and are now a blue green).

GiniCooper · 21/06/2015 00:09

DS changed from blue to green at approx 16 months

fattymcfatfat · 21/06/2015 00:13

DD was born with dark brown eyes, so dark they were almost black. she still has very very dark eyes at 18 month's. it's mesmerizing really.
DS on the other hand was born with bright blue eyes which started to change around 8 weeks. he is now 6 and has the most amazing Amber eyes (very rare eye colour but so gorgeous!)

SycamoreMum · 21/06/2015 00:13

My DD's eye colour is finally settling and shes 14m. She has gold rings!! Big brown eyes with intense gold rings (think Beyoncé). Mines are hazel brown so it was kind of inevitable I guess.

Lweji · 21/06/2015 00:23

Never. :)

Despite my MIL keeping going on about how he'd change.

He's 10.
