Just dropped my buggy backwards :(

I took 7 month old DD out for her first trip in her new buggy having bought a lighter weight stroller at the weekend after getting sick of our bulky travel system. We had a great time - she enjoyed being front facing, I enjoyed how easy it was to steer, she fell asleep easily and I was just about to see if I could get her in the house without waking her when it happened

I must have underestimated how much I needed to tip it back to get up on the pavement due to having a heavier buggy previously and it fell backwards, probably pulled down by the changing back hanging on the handle. She screamed of course, but so would I if someone tipped me out of bed backwards. She's fine, it wasn't a massive drop so no big bump although obviously I'll keep an eye on her.

Anyone else had buggy mishaps they can share to make me feel better?

Not so much a buggy mishap but got home from shops to find some unpaid for shopping on the bottom of the buggy where I'd put it intending to get it out at the checkout.....never did pluck up the confidence to go back!

I put shopping in the basket all the time and am paranoid I'm going to forget to pay for something at some point too

I was stepping off a train backwards with a buggy once and misjudged it so my leg ended up going straight down the gap and the buggy on top of me. Not one person helped me! It really hurt my bum and some old lady had the cheek to comment I wasn't being very safe!

This happened to me many times with my 4 DS's!! It genuinely hasn't harmed them. I think you can buy weights that go on the front legs of buggies to make them more stable and less likely to tip.

The first time I went out for a day with dd1 I did my shopping and got back to the car only to realise that I had forgotten how to fold down the huge travel system I had. Poor dd was tiny and needed to be fed. She was screaming her lungs out in the back of the car while I wrestled the stupid thing around the car park.

I'm sure I even resorted to kicking it at one stage. Then in a blinding moment of clarity I remember the one small thing I had forgotten to do. Ta dah! The thing folded like a dream.

I was on the verge of driving away and leaving it there.

Mine kept tipping over backwards on the bus. It was a double, and if DS1 was in the back, or messing about, they'd unbalance it and it would go over. Or I'd overload it with my shopping.

There was one particular corner it was very prone to tipping. It took me a lot longer than it should have to learn this.

I've kicked our travel system several times birkie, I hate it. So glad I bought this stroller, just a shame I managed to drop it on our first outing.

I used to do this every now and then with mine... you start piling shopping on the back and forget that it's now heavier and it tips over. Very, very normal thing to do. That said, once past the tiny baby stage, mine were always strapped in so didn't actually get thrown out at all.

confused that's awful!
birkie I nearly left our travel system in Sainsburys car park! I could fold it fine while pregnant and practicing. As soon as DD arrived I could no longer do it! Works fine again now!

She was strapped in so she didn't fall out. She was sleeping so the seat was fully reclined and there is just a bit of mesh above where her head is (I guess so you can see in from behind), so falling backwards meant her head slipped up to the mesh bit rather than anything heavily cushioned. That probably makes little sense without seeing the buggy but there you go! As I say though, it wasn't a heavy bump so I'm not overly worried, I'll just keep an eye on her with that in mind.

When my nephew was about a month old me and my sis went for an afternoon out and had to get the tube. A lovely man saw us approaching stairs so ran over to help with the buggy. All was going well until we were about halfway up this fairly steep staircase when my nephew came tumbling out where he hadn't been strapped in. Luckily I was right behind my sister so managed to catch him like a rugby ball. He was fine of course but my sister was hysterical for the rest of the day.

I took ds, who was around 15 months old at the time, on the bus in the pushchair and put him in the designated buggy space. I didn't push him as far back as I should have though and when the driver braked quite harshly he tipped over and fell backwards - I had some shopping and his changing bag on the handles and never thought on that it might cause it to do a backflip! Ds screamed, everyone looked and I felt like the worst, most stupid mother in the world.
In my defence though I was heavily pregnant with dd and hadn't had an awful lot of sleep the night before - I'm not usually that daft!

That sounds horrible for you OP! I remember dh having to teach me how to tip the stroller back so l could get it down off curbs

I would just keep walking until i found a dropped curb before that!

So many times. DD2 did a forward roll out of her pushchair at about 6 months. Hadn't strapped her in, only put her in for a second, usual excuses. Luckily she fell out onto the most luscious patch of soft long grass I've ever seen. Still freaked me out though.

Mine climbed into their buggy in a shop aged 2 and I didn't see until I turned to see it tip backwards. My heart stopped - twins found it hilarious!

This made me chuckle

My other buggy needed a bit of effort to get up onto the curb. This one doesn't, lesson learned!

Oops, failure to bold there. Luckily I was on my quiet residential road rather than in the town centre or in a shop. That must have been scary, then embarrassing dragons!

i used to do it all the time! it was due to having an over loaded shopping basket hanging from the handles and me forgetting and letting go of the handles.

ds seemed to like it though

Spectacular mishap with dd2.

Slipped on a slipway in France - 2nd day of holiday when she was 2.... She in 3 wheeler buggy ended up upside down strap dangling, Yep crying but she wasn't injured, I had done significant damage to my knee, was in a splint for the rest of the holiday ( kids club for the biggies was a life saver) travelled home with my leg on a pck of loo rolls ( thank goodness for a 7 seater bus at the time ! ) and had surgery!

The moral being always being use the straps fully, like car seats don't let them " get away with it cause they don't like it ever". The only buggy related injury amongst my peers was a skull fracture in a child that went over the front of a parent facing buggy head first as they didn't have the shoulder straps on.

Mine climbed in by himself once then did some complicated manoeuvre which involved his weight tipping the buggy backward till he did a buggy face plant. I swear time stopped.

We have twins so double buggy.

In the park, big bag of shopping on handles. Un-strap toddler one, as I lift her out child two goes flying with buggy and shopping.

There was screaming (child 2), laughing (child 1), broken eggs and much self recrimination. Everyone else's judgey pants were well hiked up...

No actual harm was done to flying child.

The lesson - always, always strap your children in. I was so relieved I hadn't undone both straps at once.

My sister had one of those prams with three wheels. My niece leaned forward and somehow the pram flipped forward as well and she knocked one of her baby teeth back up into her gum.

It's the design of these prams that's the problem. You should be able to do these things without worrying about something happening like that.
