Do You Have Keepsake Boxes For Your Children/Child?

And if so what have you put in them?

I was accused of being a bit OTT with mine...so wondered if anyone else was like me!!

I started boxes for both of mine, I've kept first shoes, hair from 1st haircut, the newspaper from the day they were born, newspapers from exceptional events ie 9/11. A few of their works of art, school reports, I can't think what else is in them, perhaps we should get them down and look through them. What's in yours ludaloo?

I've got a huge next bag and in it is all ds' artwork and things bought home from pre-school and school along with school reports. I've also kept his first babygrow and birth cards and 1st birthday cards and thats it. Not forgetting his 2 teeth so far.

well..I have a baby book each for them...with locks of hair..foot and hand prints...hospital tags...scan pictures etc etc

Then I have little shoe boxes with a little nappy..first toy/rattle..first pair of socks...um...any little jewlery pressies they had (little wrist band my dd1 had from a reletive)

I have saved all the boy/girl cards they had when they were born and birthday cards up to the age of 3 (ok so this is where I may be a bit OTT )

After the age of 3 I have started scrapbooks as the baby books are full...

I didn't think I was too OTT til a friend was genuinley shocked!!

I shall probably save first tooth too....

I only saved cards up to the age of 3 because I had decided to make the box for up to 3 years...then just have scrapbooks...

I have my hospital notes, dd card and bracelets from hospital, congratulations cards, first bootees, christening dress, cast of her feet and hand.
I've got some more things in it but cant remember atm.

perhaps I'm not too wierd then...

oh and I have photo's of their first ever holiday...and crawling/walking

I also have a photo of dd1 first day at school in her uniform...

(The baby books I bought have sections in them to fill out on all this kind of stuff anyway)

Yes, I have a box which I have in her name tags from hospital, her arrival cards, chrisening cards, forst borthday cards, other special cards, first baby otfit, special.significant pictures she has done, some photos (now being scrapbooked), development book, nursery reports, etc...

I have a huge box of keepsakes, 4 in fact.

I have 1 with special clothes that only she will have worn.

I have one for all her bits & pieces, 1st rattle, shoes, weaning spoon & bowl. Christmas & Birthday bags. The papers from the day she was born, the CD that was number 1, the champagne bottle & cork....

I have one for her 'artwork'

I also have a birth - 5 book & baby journal that has her hospital tags, hospital info sheet, hair cut etc in it.

Yes, some would think it's over kill, but I have 3 photos from my childhood, no idea of what I weighed when I was born, what time I was born, what I got for my first birthday/Christmas, no idea what I wore to my Christening. I have quiestions that my mum/dad can't answer. I would hate to have dd feel like this. I want her to be able to ask about her childhood & be told XYZ...

Don't worry what other's think. Save what feels important to you & your LO. My dad regrets not keeping any of our special stuff...I don't want to have that same regret!

ludaloo, I will save all dd's teeth & all her ars, at lest for the foreseeable. PLease don't worry about your friend.

I also have all the sizes of nappy she wore, hand/foot prints and all the other stuff you mentioned. I also have the paper from her 1st birthday.

They both have scrapbooks, too.

In their box I keep all the outfits that were too special or of sentimental value to give away, lock of hair, certificates and markers of special things in their lives.

I also write to them in a journal.

I couldn't let go of all the baby blankets sent to them, so one of my best friends, an amazing seamstress, is cutting them up and sewing them into buntings for them as a Christmas present.

My DD is only 9 months but I have saved loads, even her umbilical cord clip and the hat her daddy wore during my CS.
I did this as when I was pregnant my mum gave me my scrapbook she kept for me and there was so much stuff in it. all my cards up until 3rd birthday, newspaper cuttings, birthday pics, wrist bands etc and I was so touched by the fact she had kept it all I wanted to do it for my DD.

So you can never be too OTT, even if your kids dont appreciate it now, when they are older they will!

Ur defo not the only one!! I have a tin with hospital tags, first shoes, locks of hair, christening cake decs etc. I also have a scrap book for all the cards he had in his first year. I have a journal of his first year as well as his pregancy. I have also been filming and some of this will be given to him either on his 21st or the birth of his first child. When I told my mum I was expecting, she gave me a diary she'd kept of my first year and it was amazing reading through it.

I think they are lovely and not at all over the top. My Mum did a baby book for my brother but not for me as I was a twin and with my twin sister, my brother and me she didn't have time.
She really regrets that now.
I do know what time I was born though and place,weight, have pics etc.

I haven´t had my first yet but I have a trunk from my childhood which many of my friends envy! It´s an old fashioned metal trunk with stickers all over it from when we actually used it for travelling.

In it I have, among other things:
old primary school jotters including my first one "My name is" which is so cute as the teacher misspelt my name in the guide line above and I have written it correctly below!
Small favourite toys like my dinky cars and dollhouse dolls
2 bridesmaid dresses
Christening dress
First dress and t shirt worn home from the hospital
baby and childhood jewellery (most likely presents never worn!)
a few of my favourite old books
various other favourite old t shirts/school uniform t shirts etc etc
But once we were teenagers my mum mostly let us sort these things ourselves and made us reduce everything from a trunk and various boxes to fit into one trunk so it is essentially things I have chosen to keep.
I think my Mum actually salvaged all the things I chose to throw out anyway as she couldn´t bear to part with them so there are many more toys, books and clothes still floating around. But they are in HER attic!!
I have a scrapbook with all my name tags, welcome to the world cards, telegrams!! from relatives which I made with my mum when I was about 10 and then after that it was up to us to keep or chuck birthday cards. I also have my one and only diary from when I was 7. Very cute to re read.
It is a great box of keepsakes and I will definitely be doing the same for mine.
I guess if in doubt, keep it and then do like mine did and pass the task over to them when they are older to sift and sort it.

I felt quite sad when my friend was shocked...she was overly aghast..in an Anthea Turner stylee!

I have nothing from my childhood at all...we lost everything even vaguely like that in a house fire when I was 14. My mother also died in the fire...so I don't even have her to tell me this stuff.

Dad really doesn't remember things like birth weight etc etc... so I wanted to do this for my three (and hope it never gets lost!!!!!!!!!)

p.s I like the idea of giving the kids a film too!

I have the diary i kept while pregnant, saying what it was like finding i was expecting, how it felt when he moved, the plans we made for his arrival, how we already loved him etc. Also his 1st tiny bodysuit, scan pics, congrats cards from fanily friends, hospital tag and appointment cards....

and the 2 tests i took, double checking i was pregnant.

gosh...you kept the pregnancy sticks!! aww...... I couldn't do that as I went to doctors to confirm mine..

Couldn't bear to part with them! They started it all!
