Toddler descriptions

DD is 20 months old. I'm finding her descriptions of things she doesn't recognise or have words for both adorable and very accurate. Highlights include the grippy spots on the bottom of the feet on her sleep suits being 'sparkly bubbles' and the piece of mustardy sandwich she stole from me tasting 'spiky'.

My absolute favourite though, came when we were out for a walk a couple of weeks ago and saw black lambs prancing around a field. I asked her is she knew what they were, she stared for a moment and happily announced they were dancing cats. Grin

What have your toddlers come out with?

DS1, now aged 3.5, didn't have many cute-isms but the ones I can remember were:
Coke - "Granny's coffee"
Communion - "Comedian/chameleon"
Sharon fruit - "Simmer fruit" Odd amalgamation of Sharon fruit & persimmon
He's forever changing his toys' names without warning & expecting us to know who he's referring to. We currently have a wombat named Chech & a small bear who has thus far been known as PJ bear, Spiddy & now Hoppity-Voosh. I'm dreading the next name change where we'll spend hours locating every soft toy in the house while he bellows "noooo I want Crindahop" or something. Hmm

DS2, nearly 2, calls butterflies "fap-fap"s.

AGnu · 18/05/2015 23:02

Oh, DS1 also calls the utility room the u-tit-tily room.

My little DD once proclaimed, after a bath, that she was drying her MY USERNAME

DS (3) recently had an ear infection. When he swallowed his antibiotics (and presumably other things), it sometimes popped his ears and made him feel a bit better. He told me " my ears followed my medicine"

Nonie241419 · 18/05/2015 23:36

DD wanted to remind me of something that happened almost a year ago, but didn't have the right words. So she said, 'Remember yesterday and yesterday and yesterday...' I thought it was great!

ToodlesMcToodles · 18/05/2015 23:43

DS 5yrs calls my bras booby holders. Makes me chuckle everytime

PannaDoll · 18/05/2015 23:51

My little one pulled a packet of paracetamol from my bag and declared 'mummy's biscuits'.

I'm currently enjoying lots of talk about frogets (anything between a snail and a dragon).

NotaDinosaur · 19/05/2015 00:18

We don't get many as the little bugger is quite advanced and seems to get the right words easily, but anything that is itchy is 'buzzy' and his tongue was his lick for a while.

AlpacaMyBags · 19/05/2015 00:27

I love 'shrinkles' for wrinkly bath hands... Brilliant Grin

nousernamesleft · 19/05/2015 00:35

Ds, at about 3, informed me, with grave concern, that his run bone was broken. He had a stitch as did I, when I'd finished laughing

At around the same age, we drove past a building site, with a large blue crane. He sat in the back of the car, muttering "a big boo cwayon, big boo cwayon, hmm big. Boo. Cwayon! Hfffff. That a awful lot of colouring!" it's the closest I've ever come to crashing the car!

NoisyLittleLion · 19/05/2015 00:48

My 2 year old ds calls my boobs "mummy milks"

He was asking about colours a few days ago and now insists my nude shoes are "noodles"

meringue33 · 19/05/2015 01:45

DD is 10 days old. DS(2y) has so far referred to her as "Red Baby" (she was a little warm) and "Baby Be Gentle" (since DH and I inevitably chorus "Be gentle!" as soon as DS goes near.

DS has an iPad which is known as "Blue Animals" as the cover is blue and he mainly looks at an animals app. When the battery dies he asks for "Black Animals" which is Daddy's iPad.

There are so many more! Gherkins are slugs. Courgette is green carrot. Today he pointed out a yellow skip on the road then started singing "Lou Lou skip to my Lou", clearly a song about skips :-)

CuppaSarah · 19/05/2015 06:39

Dd has combined the word dog and woof and all dogs are now doofs! I love it!

She also has cuggles! And trains are buses, unless you are riding on it then it's allowed to be a train.

Lovelydiscusfish · 19/05/2015 06:48

These are lovely!
When dd was just two, she caused us huge confusion in a France by asking for "toilet rolls" for breakfast (it transpired she meant pain au Chocolat).
She now refers to any ruined or old clothes she uses for painting/messy play as "rusty clothes".

DS calls fingers 'min gets', when DD was born he was fascinated by her tiny hands. He used to point to her and declare loudly 'MINGER'. Made us chuckle!

goldenduckling · 19/05/2015 08:48

Currently from 2.5 ds we have...
Eye glass (glasses) and bendy reach (crane) Grin

daisyswirl · 19/05/2015 09:08

Ds1 loved strawberries but used to say they were jealous strawberries if they were very tart. Ds2 called rabbits bun mabbits and dd1 used to call cats fur bears. Shes 11 now and had us in stitches recently when she thought a hamlet was a baby pig.Grin

DurhamDurham · 19/05/2015 10:57

When my youngest was a toddler she would walk up to me and ask me to "cuddle her bigly"....she wanted a really big hug!!

How could I refuse Smile

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 19/05/2015 10:58

DD came out of her room the other morning with her hair sticking every which way, and told me she looked like she had been "dragged backwards towards a hedgehog".

When DD1 has a cold, she says she has slugs in her nose. Instead of saying thankyou, she will say 'catsoup'...if you repeat that back to you,she will very indignantly say 'no mummy, its thankyou'.

spiderlight · 19/05/2015 11:21

When DS was about 3, he saw me getting dressed and said very urgently "Mummy, put your bras on in case your boobychest goes on fire!" He's 8 now and still refers to bras in the plural, like trousers Grin

PeterParkerSays · 19/05/2015 11:27

DS would see an identifying feature of something and use that name for everything else which also had that feature. Tractors have a big wheel at the back and a small wheel at the front. So do wheelchairs. Going to the zoo for DS's 2nd birthday, "ooh mummy look, a boy in a tractor" was fun. Confused

BuggerMeInBurnley · 19/05/2015 11:31

When I was about 2 I hated tea from the pot still do because I used to say it tasted 'rusty'. But it does though, doesn't it?

My niece calls shoes 'over socks' for a while because she couldn't remember the name for shoes.

She also called the curb 'Kurt'. When my brother would be reversing into a space, she'd say 'Don't go up the Kurt' Grin
