Toddler descriptions

DD is 20 months old. I'm finding her descriptions of things she doesn't recognise or have words for both adorable and very accurate. Highlights include the grippy spots on the bottom of the feet on her sleep suits being 'sparkly bubbles' and the piece of mustardy sandwich she stole from me tasting 'spiky'.

My absolute favourite though, came when we were out for a walk a couple of weeks ago and saw black lambs prancing around a field. I asked her is she knew what they were, she stared for a moment and happily announced they were dancing cats. Grin

What have your toddlers come out with?

Just remembered, when DSD was little everything with a bitter/salty taste was 'spicy'

She also used to call tadpoles 'tadpolbes' which was just ridiculously cute.

Tomato cheese - Edam

Magic gardens - allotments

Spicy / fizzy anything she doesn't like the taste of

And Ds called the motorway the speed road until he was 7!

Dd also used to ask for too much when she meant a lot.

noideawhattoget · 18/05/2015 19:29

oh too many. ds2 used to call pigeons, 'chickens', and an ambulance was antilumps.

slipper socks with the dots on are sticky socks, even now, and the girls are 10 and 9.

Keep remembering more...

Until Ds was about 2 he had a bedtime bottle of milk which he called his 'ugug' because that was the noise it made when he gulped it down.

Also when he has a sore ear he describes it as having a yawn stuck in it .

A tickly tummy means he's feeling sick.

JasonsBum · 18/05/2015 19:33

DDs pearls of wisdom.

Pink birds at the zoo = flingamingoes.

Things back to front = the wrong around.

Prepared fruit in a tub from the supermarket = little fruit.

She also has two dummies. The one in her hand is 'diddy that one'

StoryOfMyLife · 18/05/2015 19:34

My dd complained of 'fizzy feet', made perfect sense when we realised its pins and needles!

BendyMum15 · 18/05/2015 19:34

When DS was younger he used to call flowers 'bee sits'

JasonsBum · 18/05/2015 19:36

Oh, and ToysRus is the 'Piggle Piggle' shop because they used to have an Iggle Piggle ride. They don't any more, they have Ben and Holly now, but it's still the Piggle Piggle shop. I did Christmas shopping with DD whining 'I want to go to the Piggle Piggle shop'snd I didn't have a clue what she was on about.

HypodeemicNerdle · 18/05/2015 19:36

We have carrot cheese at our house (red leicester)
Raisins of box
Bounce a leen - a popular one I see

monkeywrench · 18/05/2015 19:38

DS when he was younger commented on the "horse caravans" outside the riding stables we were walking past.

moonfacebaby · 18/05/2015 19:40

Trampoline is bouncyline according to DD2.

Broccoli is known as trees.

SisterSage · 18/05/2015 19:41

My DS is too young for any of these, but my DSis when she was little used to call boobs 'giggles', because DM's would wobble when she 'got the giggles.'

Also after DP and I got engaged, we went to the park with his niece who was about 5. She introduced us to some of her friends as 'my uncle and fiancaunty'.

BendyMum15 · 18/05/2015 19:44

Oh and the other day DS said that the static on the tv because he had turned off the freesat box was 'spinning bones'.

DreamPhone · 18/05/2015 19:47

Argh 'boob glasses' made me snort out a laugh and wake DD during her feed to sleep! GrinConfusedGrin

Southwestwhippet · 18/05/2015 19:55

Loving these.

DD used to call a hippopotamus an inter-mitter-motter-mus

My sister once shrieked "mummy, there is lemonade in my feet" (pins and needles)

My brother was obsessed with the static on the TV. He used to call it The Snow Show.

Missanneshirley · 18/05/2015 20:02

lots of good names for bras! dd2 calls mine a boob warmer!

Fairenuff · 18/05/2015 20:04

The handle on the bucket was 'the hoopy thing'.

MidnightDinosaur · 18/05/2015 20:26

Ds2 (4) gets fuzzy feet (pins & needles)

We also have a jumpoline (trampoline)

The Lego police figures use handclaps (hand cuffs)

Idontseeanydragons · 18/05/2015 20:33

DS used to make a meal of Hippopotamus, it started with 'pippo- omatus and carried on from there. For several seconds sometimes! Grin

When DD2 was up poorly with me one night I put Wolf Hall on, she popped her head up when MR spoke and said 'where's Bing fing mummy' and went back to sleep.

fflonkl · 18/05/2015 20:46

Whenever DD(2) sees DH walking around in his underwear she goes "Daddy nappy!" (Mine are correctly called knickers!)

And when she sees my boobs she goes "Milk finished" (stopped bf-ing just before she turned 2).

waxweasel · 18/05/2015 20:49

idontseeanydragons My DD calls a hippopotamus a 'hippo bottoms' and does a funny little twerking style bottom wiggle as she says it :)

Mummatron3000 · 18/05/2015 20:52

DS (2) talks about "up-sleeves" (short sleeved top) and "down-sleeves" (long sleeved top) - he prefers down-sleeves!
