Toddler descriptions

DD is 20 months old. I'm finding her descriptions of things she doesn't recognise or have words for both adorable and very accurate. Highlights include the grippy spots on the bottom of the feet on her sleep suits being 'sparkly bubbles' and the piece of mustardy sandwich she stole from me tasting 'spiky'.

My absolute favourite though, came when we were out for a walk a couple of weeks ago and saw black lambs prancing around a field. I asked her is she knew what they were, she stared for a moment and happily announced they were dancing cats. Grin

What have your toddlers come out with?

My dd calls grapes "purples" which makes perfect sense to me as oranges are orange and the grapes I buy are purple so why not call them purples!

Catypillar · 18/05/2015 21:08

Don't get many of these from DS now as he's 7, but he did call asparagus Spartacus today.

When he was 2 he used to say PILs' stroppy cat was "splitting" at him. Cats do tend to use the more primitive psychological defence mechanisms though...

CelibacyCakeAndFuckThePO · 18/05/2015 21:17

Few more I've remembered.

DS was breastfed til 23 months. My boobs are "boofs" and he still, 3 months on, occasionally says "oh boof, no more milk, aahh"

His dummy is a "diddle" as he, from about 6 months , would sing-song "adiddledurdlediddledurdlediddledurdlediddle" when he wanted it!

DD is 11 and still gets some words wrong. She calls the Pantry a "Panetary" she can't say "milk" she says "milk" and similarly she can't say "bald" she says "bowled" Grin

DYAC "mulk"

AppleCrumples · 18/05/2015 21:20

Dd2 has a favourite bunny she calls bubba. She has a spare (just in case)which is just as loved which she calls 'more bubba'

Dm once asked ds2 how he hurt himself. He told her he fell off his legs :)

LosingNemo · 18/05/2015 21:21

My DS calls flowers 'pretties', play dough is 'wheels' and brioche is 'play dough' (v confusing for those not in the know). The clustery bits in granola are 'roses' and dreams are 'beans'.

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 18/05/2015 21:28

My pfb used to say "down down up" when he meant upside down and/or inside out.
No2 son called swiss cheese "cartoon cheese"
No3 son always said "hee hiles" for high heels Grin
My youngest often complains he can't do something because of his "bendy leg" and there was one momentous day when he couldn't do anything tidy up or put his jamas on or brush his teeth because he had two bendy legs Grin

slightlyeggstained · 18/05/2015 21:34

Thanks to the Gruffalo's Child DS spent quite a while calling eyes "pools of fire" or sometimes "fire" for short.

Was a bit confusing until we figured it out.

HerrenaHarridan · 18/05/2015 21:45

When dd first told me she had ladybirds in her feet I was somewhat perplexed!

Addictedtocustardcreams · 18/05/2015 21:46

These are so sweet!
DD was in the bath the other day and said "mummy I'm jugging!" She was pouring water from a jug.

NotSayingImBatman · 18/05/2015 21:47

We have radiolaters for radiators, speckle spots instead of freckles and Winnie the Pooh is called We Need A Poo.

Idontseeanydragons · 18/05/2015 21:52
Blush Must have blocked this one out for a while. DD1 used to call having a poo Bumming or having a Bum for some reason. When she was 3 she toddled off to the toilet at IL's house with the announcement that she was going bumming upstairs. To this day I wish I'd taken a picture of MIL's face Grin
KnitFastDieWarm · 18/05/2015 22:00

My oldest friend, aged two, telling her granny that 'my daddy has a tail that he likes to dip in the toilet'
(she had recently seen him having a wee standing up Grin)

OhMyActualDays · 18/05/2015 22:09

Here pins and needles are called nins and noodlesSmile

Fairenuff · 18/05/2015 22:10

For a while there Knit I was trying to work out how come your oldest friend was two. I was thinking, 'Doesn't she have any adult friends?' Grin

BillyBigchin · 18/05/2015 22:21

DS3 recently called a butterfly a butterwings. That didn't last long though - damn nursery teaching the right words! He also says boots for feet and bingers for fingers (boots, bingers and bums was our funny thing at the weekend).

DTSs talk about each udder a lot (say each other in a Scouse accent Grin) so sometimes when they talk about friends at school it's their chudders they are talking about Grin

scarletforya · 18/05/2015 22:25

Dd says 'breampth' for dreams.
Kristoff from frozen was Queefus until recently.
Hiccups are 'kickups'.

Blow out the tangles, instead of blow out the candles.
Her bum is a 'bum bomb'.
Cup o'the tea is a cuppa.
Peppa was Boppa
The prospecter from Toy story was 'naughty Liam'

TheEggityOddity · 18/05/2015 22:29

We have africots (apricots) and gogglins (goggles).

waxweasel · 18/05/2015 22:30

Oh my god scarletforya, Queefus suits him! Much better!

avocadotoast · 18/05/2015 22:32

"Panda-mouse" for badger is one of the best things I've ever heard Grin

nooptionforwillis · 18/05/2015 22:36

Ds called fireworks 'bangworks'

And one that has come and stuck is 'gline' - that is a glass of wine.

And if you do a hard high 5 then your hands will 'fizz'

Lovely thread Smile

purplemeggie · 18/05/2015 22:44

Ds called gorillas gilla-willas for a while.

DarylDixonsDarlin · 18/05/2015 22:45

We've had a 'leg elbow' - that's a knee, obvs Grin

And one day we came home from playgroup to find 'The Enormous Crocodile' - this was a sort of sand lizard (we live near the dunes, never seen one before or since!) and he was Blown Away by this tiny creature in his garden Star

When her sister had chicken pox, my littlest was determined that 'she did not want the cheeky pops'.

Trampoline is a 'boingboing'.

gallicgirl · 18/05/2015 22:50

Storyofmylife my DD also gets fizzy feet when she has pins and needles!!

She also calls tomato ketchup, "hedgehog".

SerJorahsSecondChoice · 18/05/2015 22:55

My ds (3yo) calls headphones 'music sunglasses.'

And less a toddler description, more 'flawed logic' but the other day he was watching a programme where a woman was crying and he turned to me with patronising sympathy and said 'That lady's sad! You're a lady' [pats arm reassuringly] 'so that must mean you're sad!'

He also calls hippopotamuses 'hippototamus' - I hope he never learns to say it properly!
