When did your baby start eating first thing instead of milk?

DS is 7 months.
BF so gets breast first thing then breakfast.

When should I swap this about? I think I read it should be around now?

Dreading it as i still wake up leaking some mornings & it's such a relief to latch him on first thing!

I've not heard of this, and my DD is.8.5mo. I still have a drink in the morning before breakfast so don't see the problem with her doing it :)

TittingAbout · 22/03/2015 08:31

Mine has milk first thing and breakfast afterwards... at 2 years old.
It's all up to you and your baby, really. Whatever works best for the both of you.

DD is 16 months and still has milk before she has her breakfast. I always have a drink before my breakfast too.

ch1134 · 22/03/2015 08:37

At around 10 months. Now at 14 months he still has milk before nap and before bed. Aiming to drop the nap one soon.

CareBearWithFangs · 22/03/2015 08:47

My 3 and a half year old still had milk before breakfast! She won't get out of bed without it.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 22/03/2015 08:48

Mine is a grump before her morning milk! I don't blame her though, she's been in bed for 12 hours usually so must be thirsty.

bigkidsdidit · 22/03/2015 08:51

My four year old still has a cup of warm milk first thing. It's nice and means I make my coffee and his milk and we have a cuddle on the sofa. Breakfast is an hour later (he wakes 6.30 ish). No need to change I don't think unless there are issues with timing ie having to get out of the house for nursery.

NickyEds · 22/03/2015 09:55

DS is 15 months and still has milk (at 5.15am today Grrr) before breakfast at around 8 ish.

KeturahLee · 22/03/2015 09:57

I think DD was probably about 18 months.

SASASI · 22/03/2015 11:00

Ok great - thanks for the replies! I can keep BF'ing first thing for a while yet - much handier for going baby to work instead of expressing first thing.

Er, 4 years old? Or if I wasn't around to bf, from about a year, but he'd probably still start with the cup of milk.

HeffaLumpers · 22/03/2015 13:17

Dd is just starting to drop her morning feed now at 19 month so there is no need to rush.

HeyMicky · 22/03/2015 13:23

Only when I stopped BF at 15 months. She then refused any milk in the mornings

ByTheWishingWell · 22/03/2015 13:24

DD is 19 months old and has a sleepy breastfeed for an hour or two before getting up. Possibly not ideal, but at 7 months you have nothing to worry about!

trilbydoll · 22/03/2015 13:25

DD is 22mo and I don't have time before work to witness the painfully slow cereal eating. So she has a bottle to keep her going until nursery.

Once I am on mat leave with dc2 we might stop it, but I like the fact she's having a decent amount of liquid and I'm sure it's more nutritious than a bowl of rice krispies!

SophieandHerSnail · 22/03/2015 13:38

Only when I stopped breastfeeding. Around 2.5 yrs.

Stillwishihadabs · 22/03/2015 13:47

Not yet. They are 11 and 8 we have coffee (for grownups) or hot chocolate (for dcs) first thing (6-6:30) in bed 3 or 4 mornings a week. Keeps them going until a late weekend breakfast or breakfast club on a school morning.

KatyN · 22/03/2015 15:52

Mine still has milk at 3.5, the only difference is now he has it froma sippy cup so I can got on with making tea etc.

blushingmare · 22/03/2015 19:06

DD is 2yrs 9mo and still has milk (now cow's milk in a cup) before breakfast. She often has a few grapes in a bowl too. It buys me some time to have a shower and get dressed etc before going down for breakfast. DS (10mo) interestingly doesn't really have a breakfast bf as such, but he still wakes a few times in the night for feeds, the last of which is about 5am, so I take that as a breakfast bf!

Fantail · 23/03/2015 07:47

Around 12 months I think. Was down to that feed & bedtime by that stage I think. I feed until 18 months.

MsJupiter · 23/03/2015 09:48

DS (2.5) has milk first thing while I have my cup of tea, works for us. He still eats a great breakfast of fruit and porridge.

gourd · 23/03/2015 14:15

DD had stopped BF-ing completely in the daytime and was on just two breastfeeds a day from 9 months, but she was 18 months old before she dropped the first thing in the morning breastfeed. She didn't stop the evening feed till she was almost 2 years.

Bedsheets4knickers · 23/03/2015 19:47

My 2.6 year old flits back and forth x
