Its the only book my just turned 2 year old son wants me to read at bedtime. I'm reading it at least 6 nights a week and it's slowly driving me mad. Anyone got any recommendation for something else that would be just as popular?

Sympathy, I hate that book.

Anything else by Julia Donaldson might be popular if he likes the pictures and the rhyming style? Any ideas what it is that he likes about it? My DS used to love Karma Wilson's books about Bear (I enjoyed reading those)

CaptainAnkles · 10/02/2015 16:38

Try Zog instead Smile

Where's My Teddy? and its sequels It's the Bear! and My Friend Bear, by Jez Alborough

We've just bought that for DS' birthday. Am I about to regret it?

BaronessBomburst · 10/02/2015 16:39

I love Monkey Puzzle.

NormHonal · 10/02/2015 16:39

You need a Julia Donaldson box set of books. Or perhaps the audio books? Have a look on the Book People website.

BeansInBoots · 10/02/2015 16:41

I hate stickman, dd loves it and the Gruffalo atm (which is much better) so worth a go?

PureMorning · 10/02/2015 16:43

A squash and a squeeze and room on the broom are my 4 year old ds's favorites for 2 years

I hate to think how many times ive read them

Passmethecrisps · 10/02/2015 16:44

My 2yo dd has developed an obsession with the quangle wangle's hat and the jumbliies. They both came in a cheap pack from the book people.

I think she likes the rhyming and pictures.

I love julia Donaldson but dd not so much

LittleLionMansMummy · 10/02/2015 17:54

Tabby McTat or Room on the Broom. Ds loves Julia Donaldson so also loves Tiddler.

fattymcfatfat · 10/02/2015 17:57

julia donaldson is a big hit in my house but I feel your pain. when my ds was 2 we had to read the gruffalo every flaming night! the book is practically falling apart now hes six but he still enjoys it every now and again! I ended up reading two books a night, the gruffalo and one other!

Thanks for all your responses, really helpful and much appreciated. I'll be getting myself to the library/bookshop!

Book People website is your friend. 10 JD books for £11.99. Often codes for free delivery as well.

Also Adrian Reynolds and Jeanne Willis collection - 6 books for £7.99 - all good for that age.

angel24711 · 10/02/2015 19:22

ok thanks didn't know about the book people, amazing deals

Gosh I don't know where Stick Man is, I must have tidied that book up. Let's have this one instead

You must have something else he likes??

Passmethecrisps · 10/02/2015 22:09

Have started providing my dd with a fairlyarge choice which j have previously selected. So she gets to choose but only once I hve sifted through what I can't be bothered with. Generally speaking she is ok with this

AddToBasket · 10/02/2015 22:10

Who's In The Loo? Funny and rhyming

MrsMinton · 10/02/2015 22:11

Funnybones or each peach pear plum are brilliant.

MrsKCastle · 10/02/2015 22:16

Anything by Tony Mitton and Guy Parker-Reeves, especially Farmer Joe and the Music Show

Bojheybuddy · 10/02/2015 23:25

Jack and the Flum Flum Tree (also ny JD) is a big hit with 4yo DS. It's also not as looong as Stick Man, but has a lovely rhythm and is nice to read out aloud.

IDontWantToBuildASnowman · 11/02/2015 09:55

Hahaha I was in Stick Man hell a while back, but have moved to The Smartest Giant in Town hell. I have also been known to spend months at a time in Tiddler, What the Ladybird Heard, Gruffalo, and many others.

MaximumVolume · 11/02/2015 10:01

I agree that Tiddler is another great one with rhymes that my DS (2.5) loves. He's also really into Funnybones at the moment. We have four of the stories and have one of them most nights.

Caillou · 11/02/2015 10:06

Dd 3 is in love with the gruffalo child at the minute, I don't even have to
Read it anymore, she knows it by heart

DomesticGoddess31 · 11/02/2015 10:53

Indulge him, he'll get bored eventually (said hopefully after umpteenth rendition of topsy and bloody tim)

Damnautocorrect · 11/02/2015 10:59

Barry the fish with fingers - awesome!
