Half Term potty training

Am I the only one using half term to potty train?

Day 1... no accidents yet, but already getting stroppy about sitting on the potty - doesn't bode well.

I aim to train ds2 but am putting off starting until Tuesday as we are having people over this weekend and on Monday. Am dreading it as keep getting memories of training ds1, which wasn't actually that bad but we did have a couple of days of weeing all over the house.

GeorginaA · 21/10/2006 08:04

Yes, snap - this is ds2. I'm trying to reassure myself that I've learned from the first time, but not convinced yet

Still - we did score a wee on the potty! Stickers and fanfare have ensued...

i'm going to try with ds too,
he has been dry in the house(with no clothes on his lower half)for about a month but the moment i put pants, pull ups or just shorts/trousers on he just does it in them.....
he has seen a toy he wants so that's the bribe...
fingers crossed it will work this time

ds is 2.8yrs.....any suggestions welcomed tia x

We are continuing, with ds, 2.10
Some days no accidents.
Others 3 or 4
No logic to it.
He has just returned from the toilet, having done a wee and a pooh, wiped his bottom , pulled up his pants, flushed loo and washed hands.
I was here typing on mumsnet - totally unaware.
How do you work that one out ?????

macb1702 · 21/10/2006 11:43

I have started today with my DD 2.11 mths. Started OK with a wee in the potty (admittedly through the knickers) and one poo in the knickers. Then we had a big wee accident and since then she has been crying and asking for her nappy to go back on. Should I ride this out or is this a sign she's not ready???? HELP

GeorginaA · 21/10/2006 11:49

Current tally:

Potty: 1 Accidents: 2

macb: I can't answer I'm afraid I was looking back at the thread I was on 3 years ago with ds1 and the first few days were pretty dire - I didn't think he was getting it at all. Then it clicked and he made loads of progress. Am hoping it will work the same for ds2!

just a quick check in(have had to go out this morning as dd has swimming lessons)
potty:2 wees

put a pair of pants on ready for going out to swimming and whilst i was finishing getting dd ready he did a little wee in them but then did ask for the potty and did a bigger wee in the potty(iykwim)

have been out for 1.5 hours and the pull ups that i put him in are still dry so off to put new pants on him now

so potty 3
accidents 1

chatee · 21/10/2006 12:59

aaaaagh,
ds has just done a wee in another pair of pants

with the usual "sorry mummy won't do it again, do wee wees in my potty"

potty 3
accidents 2
off for another pair of pants

GeorginaA · 21/10/2006 13:21

Well at least you got 3 in the potty!

We have had another accident. Ds2 is now having a nap while wearing a nappy.

Hope the afternoon is more successful... sigh

End of day 1.

Potty: 1

I think it might be a good night to open a bottle of wine....

It's going to be better tomorrow, right?

After a major tantrum about wanting her nappy back at lunch we have had a good afternoon. Two unprovoked wees in the potty, and a really good attempt at making it to the potty for poo. She didn't quite get there but the intention was definitely there. I feel really positive about tomorrow...... although I am with GeorginaA with the bottle of wine. Enjoy!!

GeorginaA · 21/10/2006 20:39

Oh that sounds really encouraging And to think earlier you were worried that she wasn't ready! Hope progress is as good tomorrow.

Starting to wonder if he's just not ready yet. Am thinking of giving it a total of three days and if there's still no progress by then, leaving it for a while.

Have I done the right thing by abandoning dd's potty training after half a day owing to total lack of progress? She will do a wee in her knickers and not even notice that they are wet. She tells me she wants a wee and then sits on the potty and does precicely nowt.

I think she is copying the potty trainers at nursery without really understanding what it's all about.

Please tell me she's not ready and I should leave it for a while [pleading]

Georgina - 2 wees in the potty by lunchtime - progress

GeorginaA · 22/10/2006 13:09

She's not ready and you should wait a while

Though honestly, I don't know the answer to that Cheesy. I know for ds1 it really didn't click properly until the end of the first week (although he had made more progress than ds2 has at a similar stage). But at the same time, the older you leave it the easier it is.

TBH, I think it's as much whether it's a convenient time for YOU to dedicate the time as anything else.

Realistically for us if we miss this half term then february half term is the earliest next opportunity but we don't really want to use dh's next year holiday allocation for potty training when we can use it for camping trips later on instead Plus February is a long way away when ds2 has been getting upset and wanting to sit on the toilet just like his brother...

Actually, I just don't know. If there's no major progress by the end of tomorrow we may stop, but I do think half a day is probably too quick to tell.

GeorginaA · 22/10/2006 13:11

YAY... another wee in the potty! I think the chocolate button directly after doing one is having the required bribery effect

Problem is, ds1 is getting them at the same time for doing precisely nowt ... lol.

OP posts:
macb1702 · 22/10/2006 13:54

I have to say I think she has cracked it, no accidents but 6 wees (unassisted) and 2 poos (with slight assistance!) in the potty. I can't believe it all those failed attempts and this time it has been so easy. It just goes to show that waiting until they are ready is the best way to go about it. Oh and choccy buttons help too! Good luck to all of you still struggling, I am just really grateful we have got to this point. I just have to build up the courage to leave the house now!

GeorginaA · 22/10/2006 14:22

That's great news macb And to think, you were ready to give up yesterday morning!

OP posts:
chatee · 22/10/2006 17:07

potty 5 (including a poo}
accidents 1(Yuk a pooey one)

but has had a pull up on this afternoon as we had to venture out(and i know that when he wakes it will be wet)

do i really have to resort to choccy buttons??
