Half Term potty training

Am I the only one using half term to potty train?

Day 1... no accidents yet, but already getting stroppy about sitting on the potty - doesn't bode well.

How's everyone doing?

We've had a much better day today. Only two accidents, one of which was a poo (still haven't worked out how to get him to poo in the potty rather than in his pants - any advice gratefully received).

Anyway, the major breakthrough is that now he squeezes out a wee within seconds of sitting down rather than having to wait around for 5 minutes to "try". Yesterday he was throwing major strops about sitting for a wee, today he's still not a fan, but after complaining loudly will sit and do a wee quick to get us off his case He can go up to about 4 hours between wees, but as he's still not consistently asking to go we're taking him every 2 hours approx, and that seems to do the trick.

Feeling quite upbeat - I feel he's moved into the "trained but still with the occasional accident" camp today (if you ignore the pooing side... ). So rather foolhardily we're going for a 2.5 hour drive tomorrow morning to visit the inlaws for the weekend.... . Wish us luck...

Ooo result. Went upstairs to get ready for the bath. Ds2 suddenly decided he was going to the potty and went and did a wee! I think that's the first time he's just got on with it himself without being reminded!

DD now using the toilet (downstairs one)

No prompting from me

No accidents all day

Although now she's moving into 'go away' and trying to shut the door

on me anyway .. DS is allowed to do bottom inspections it seems

funny thing is I'm quite expecting the regression to come quite soon .. DS got it in a week then 2 months later started pooing in pants

Oi Twig - you've been talking about optimism on that other thread, start being optimistic

How'd you get him to stop pooing in his pants, do you remember? Or is it one of those "ride it out and they get it eventually" things?

TwigTwoolett · 27/10/2006 18:52

oh no I remember

I tried ignoring .. didn't work

  • getting him to change himself .. didn't work
  • shouting .. didn't work
  • sticker charts .. didn't work
  • praise .. didn't work
  • even hit him .. not proud .. and didn't work

eventually I did the unthinkable (on friend's advice) and put him back in a nappy at friend's house .. started taking him to the toilet every hour and gave him a chocolate button every time he tried and succeeded .. that worked within 2 days

TwigTwoolett · 27/10/2006 18:53

arf .. sorry cod

GeorginaA · 27/10/2006 19:06

lol - well there's been loads of "when's cod doing the next boot camp" type posts so I assumed you'd retired

Yup, chocolate buttons were successful here - and we've phased them out today with no major repercussions (yet!) If I ever GET a poo in the potty I'll reward that with a chocolate button and fanfares though

Yesterday had a really good day with one accidnet while playing outside and pooed on potty again. Was really optimistic for today as he had started toinitiate some of his own visits to the potty. This morning at 6.10 ds woke up with a moan so i said do you need to do a wee, and he said yes so removed nappy and he performed

Then he refused every time i suggested sitting on the potty and he is so stubborn and strong i can't force hime to sit on it so we had 2 wet accidents. Despite refusing again had to say I would to turn off the tv before he would sit down and he did wee then but refused chocolate reward. I don't like using the tv as a bribe for just sitting on the potty. Cod if you're there what do you think?

No poo at all today so will have to be on alert all day tomorrow and just know MIL will be round and I'll feel stressed.

(And breathe think of a happy place)

Just wondered how everyone ws getting on.
Still having a wet accident once a day, usually when excited or too occupied playing. But ds is still waking up for first wee of the day. Beginning to ask (according toMIL) and so far has pooed everytime in potty.

Going to nursery on Thursday so that will be a bit of a test, far too many exciting things t be doing. But hoping that the fact others are going to the toilet will encourage him too.

we're done and in knickers full time .. just waiting for the regression stage now

how's everyone else doing
